More or less, the musings of a graduate of a Scottish university, born in New York, formerly resident in South Africa, and now living in London.

Paperhouse
Designer: Thomas Heatherwick
Client: Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea

One of London’s most prominent local councils commissioned Heatherwick Studio to design a new newspaper and magazine kiosk.

RBKC sought a kiosk design that would neither attract vandalism nor look awkward and unattractive when shut up for the night.

The kiosk is built of steel with a wood lining inside and a patinated brass exterior.

    A friend writes:

i’d read about these and must say they’re a little too much for me.
would have been a whole lot nicer if they’d converted one or two of those lovely little victorian taxi shelters into kiosks.

these could easily have been brought up to date with a new colour scheme (perhaps the same red as the nearby undergound tiles) or given aluminium roofs for example.
they’re literally all over the borough and if there’s a victorian half mile, exhibition road is it.
