TOR is a "finished" game.
Path of the Jedi #4.
How's Bethesda's handiwork?
Headshots, money, and blink-and-it's-over rounds. Not much has changed since the last time I regularly played Counter-Strike back in 2004. Sure, Valve and Hidden Path have given the shooter a facelift, but at this early stage in the closed beta, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive plays identically to the now 12-year-old Half-Life mod and its spruced-up Source engine remake. And I can't decide whether or not that's a good thing. Read More »
Great little puzzle games of all kinds are easy to come by these days, but not all of them balance good fun with pretty graphics like Hamilton's Great Adventure does. It's a no-frills action-puzzle game with a cute setting that belies some truly devious and addictive level design. Regardless of a couple of little flaws with controls and difficulty, it's a well put-together maze adventure for all. Read More »
Starting today, IGN Prime members can grab a free copy of SkyDrift (while supplies last) as part of the "Prime Indie PC Game of the Month." Act fast because these copies will be flying out the door (get it?). Not an IGN Prime member? Never fear, there is a free trial, too! Be sure to read our SkyDrift review to see what we think of the game. Read More »
If you're already turning foes into Bantha fodder in Star Wars: The Old Republic, you probably noticed an email from BioWare in your inbox, informing you to select your subscription plan by December 22nd. Now, if you're like me, you probably shrugged it off, thinking you would decide whether or not to pay a $15 subscription after the free 30-days included with the game expired. Tough cookies, many players are discovering today, you must sign-up for a recurring sub before you can continue playing SWTOR. Read More »
It won't be on Santa's sleigh, but AMD's Radeon HD 7970 -- a card billed as the fastest single GPU in the world -- is coming soon. Set to arrive in early January, the Radeon HD 7970 packs some big next-gen features (it's the world's first 28nm GPU) as well as a big ol' price tag. Read More »
It's time to head on down to your local Auraxis faction office and enlist, because Sony Online Entertainment is now accepting registrations for the PlanetSide 2 beta. I can't tell you when the beta will begin or what it will offer, but as an an honorably discharged soldier of the Vanu Sovereignty, I want in. Read More »
It's Christmas time, and gaming events like the Humble Indie Bundle and Steam Holiday Sale warm Spy Guy's three-sizes-too-small heart. Others, though, see the charitable indie game offering and Valve's awesome sales and prizes program as an opportunity to be scum bags. Hit the jump for the shady details. Read More »

Ever since I first saw Return of the Jedi, The Emperor has personified pure evil in my head. If I was going to put aside my usual RPG do-gooder instincts and play Star Wars: The Old Republic on the Empire side, I was gonna need to play a character like him to really get into the role—and the Inquisitor is modeled after the man himself. Cyanide Studio (which at this point should seriously consider calling itself Tears of Lys Studio) announced its Game of Thrones RPG just a couple of months ago, and today Eurogamer revealed a trailer showing us what it looks like in motion. Not much actual gameplay is shown in the trailer (unless you count people running), but it does give us a glimpse of the land of Westeros as rendered in the Unreal Engine 3. It's not mindblowing, but also not without potential if you can't get enough of the world of A Song of Ice and Fire. Click to watch the trailer! Read More »
The first of Battlefield 3's many planned DLC has the feel of a true expansion pack: it's a full package of new weapons, vehicles, and updated versions of four classic Battlefield maps. The gear isn't universally great, but the main attraction is those maps -- thanks to their wide-open design, Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand is a welcome return to a radically different style of play that many of us old-school Battlefans felt was lacking out of the box. Just what do scientists and engineers do in the Star Wars galaxy? In the 3,500 or so years that have passed between the events of The Old Republic and Anakin Skywalker's extended angsty teenager phase, droids mostly remain clunky automatons and starships still resemble Texas-sized paper airplanes. If our humble universe followed the same progression, the Titanic would have been a slave-powered barge with a pharaoh barking orders from a blocky throne. Thankfully, my wannabe Millennium Falcon is a good deal more advanced than that. Read More »
Dragon Age II's linear gameplay stands in stark contrast to the open-world experience gamers are enamored with in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- and BioWare has taken note. The studio said it plans to bring more of an open world feel to Dragon Age III. Read More »
One of the first mods created for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim opened up the game's entire 4GB virtual memory address space. As if to say, "Why didn't we think of that?" Bethesda's latest patch for Skyrim adds official support for 4GB tuning. Read More »
It's a lot like kicking an ant hill, only the ants are made of bullet-proof titanium, vary in size from double-decker bus to angry skyscraper, and vomit acid and genocide. It's a fantastic B-movie pitch, to be sure. However, thanks to mind-numbing repetition and a lackluster PC port, the action rarely manages to knock it out of the park. Read More »
It's time to journey to a galaxy far, far way. Electronic Arts and BioWare officially opened the doors to Star Wars: The Old Republic at midnight, welcoming what is expected to be millions of players. How is the studio handling the launch-day rush? I'll be logging-on (or attempting to log-on) throughout the day to find out. Read More »
MW3 is more of the same, and it's showing its age. But is it still fun?
Has one of the best games of the year arrived? Most definitely.
