It's confusing to keep up with the history of Hudson's Adventure Island franchise, especially since it started out as a spin-off of the now totally unrelated Wonder Boy brand. To add to the oddness, this Game Boy installment in the series was marketed simply as "Adventure Island" in America -- though it was based off of the NES game Adventure Island II. You don't have to worry too much about keeping all that straight, though. The important thing is that this is a pretty good little platformer...

It was just two weeks ago that WiiWare got Pinocchio's Puzzle, which I called a surprisingly pleasant puzzler for families. It was a simple point-and-click jigsaw puzzle game with nothing too remarkable about it, but it was good fun overall and I judged it a nice option for anyone wanting to play casually alongside their kids. Now, as December dawns, the same design is back again -- just with a holiday coat of paint applied...
If you were wondering when the day would come that video game publishers finally ran out of names for their games, today offers compelling evidence that the time has arrived -- ladies and gentleman, here is a game seriously named "Double Bloob." I don't know whether to laugh or just shake my head in shame, but I'm sure some middle schoolers out there are already having a chuckle by conveniently forgetting to pronounce the L in that second word...
It would be fine if I never played Neverdead again. Maybe that's a bit harsh because what I played was a pre-release build, but seeing that it comes out in less than two months, I doubt a lot of the issues I have with it will be addressed. While our own Ryan Clements compared its combat to "the acti...

Sometimes I forget the joys of local multiplayer. I'm so enraptured by the likes of Battlefield 3 or Gears of War 3 multiplayer that I don't make the time to play in proximity to other humans. Rayman: Origins made a remarkable case for this. While it's not on the same level in terms of outright qual...
As December has now arrived, we're finally coming to the end of a jam-packed anniversary year. Nintendo's many products and properties seem to have hit more milestones through 2011 than in any previous year, with franchises like The Legend of Zelda and Metroid turning 25 while the SNES, N64 and GameCube consoles hit 20, 15 and 10 years of age respectively. And yet, after all that, at least one more milestone remains that demands recognition. This weekend marks the 10th anniversary of Pikmin...

You can have a No Items Grand Prix run or a Mushrooms-Only Coin R...

While next week's update to the Xbox LIVE Dashboard will offer a bevy of new features for Xbox 360 owners, it doesn't appear that the highly-touted addition of the UFC will be one of them; at least not yet. Microsoft confirmed today that the UFC on Xbox LIVE app will not be available until December 20...

When the 3DS launch lineup was first announced, many questioned Nintendo's decision to focus on third party offerings. There was no Mario or Zelda game in sight - the closest early adopters had to look forward to was the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake that was set to launch a full three months after the system. This lack of sure-win software, paired with the system's initially lofty price tag, no doubt accounted for the poor sales the 3DS suffered during its infancy...
Welcome once again to the weekly eShop Update, loyal readers, and join me this week in bidding a fond farewell to Nintendo's old 3DS firmware. By this time next week Nintendo's promised that a new firmware update will be made available, which will add features like 3D video recording to the system's capabilities -- and we'll likely get a big new exclusive game or two, like Pushmo or Swapnote, to usher in the sweeping changes...
