Bird Sightings. Migration is underway, and the chances of seeing some interesting birds are very good now. Shorebirds, in particular, are moving through. A small flock of sanderlings was seen at Hills Creek Park on Sept 8, right after the rains ended. Mudflats and flooded fields are good places to watch. Migrating hawk numbers are beginning to climb, too. Over a thousand broad-winged hawks were seen Sept 10 at Hawk Mountain. We do not get those kind of numbers here, but do expect to see more activity high in the sky than normal. And just in case you haven't noticed, hummingbirds are also passing through in big numbers now, and we do see a lot of those here. Don't be surprised to find your feeder drained.
