NC: Winston-Salem Anti-Gun Ordinance
The city famous for cigarettes has decided that in most of their public spaces, such as parks, you must be defenseless against thugs. Fortunately, there are a few decent folks such as the members of Grass Roots North Carolina who would like to see that idea changed. From the Winston-Salem Journal:
Winston-Salem’s ordinance prohibits concealed handguns in playgrounds, swimming pools, and athletic facilities. The ordinance includes greenways and lakes as athletic fields.
Angela Carmon, Winston-Salem’s city attorney, has said in public meetings that the state law did not define “athletic facilities.” The city ordinance considers greenways and lakes as athletic facilities because people exercise on or in both.
It also prohibits CCW in 52 of the city’s 69 parks. BTW, that’s a lot of parks. Sounds like a pretty place to live. Okay, anyway, more information and how to help out can be found HERE.
Seriously now, I have several domains and plenty of email accounts with them. I don’t use filters for fear I’ll miss something from one of you. Over the past few weeks, the spam emails have increased by — I didn’t actually count them but, — a whole lot. Like hundreds-of-percent. I try to sort through them but I’m sure that I miss some ‘real’ emails from you, so, if I didn’t respond to an email of yours, please just send it again. Put something in the subject line to catch my attention.
I’m beginning to think that I might almost agree with Bill Gates (Microsoft) about charging a token fee (maybe two-cents) to send an email. That would probably wipe-out most spammers.
I dunno. How else could you repel or stop these mutants from trying to rip-off people when they can send millions of emails to unsuspecting (and often elderly or not-so-aware) folks for free?
Groupon on Gun Rights: Let’s Not Make a Deal!
Yelp and Buy With Me are ‘coupon companies’ (as it were) willing to offer deals from firearms instruction companies. And, they’ve been successful — as in they made money — with it. Groupon declines to do so:
Despite the evident demand, Groupon refuses to promote guns or ally with an NRA-endorsed company.
Earlier this year, Groupon stated on their blog, “We don’t run deals on guns or abortion…this isn’t a political statement, it’s avoiding intentionally upsetting a segment of our customers.” Or, as company spokesperson Julie Mossler explained, “It’s not our business if you’re for or against gun control and choosing to run gun deals immediately means we’ve chosen a side.”
Look, when a brick-based store decides to sell condoms, they’re not taking a position on or the merits of contraceptives (call it an allusion to the above spokesperson’s statement about not offering deals on abortion) but rather offering a product that SOME customers might want. I don’t buy every single product offered at the local grocery. Call me “fussy” but I like to make my own decisions about which vegetables and TV dinners I buy. The local grocery didn’t choose a side or make a statement in offering a variety, I DID, with my purchases.
When I go to Walmart, I’m not a hunter. So, should I be angry that they offer hunting gear and clothing in the sporting goods department? Maybe some liberal a-hole would think so but I am not.
I don’t consider the coupons as a statement that the coupon distributor has “chosen sides” about anything including their opinion about the product or service or the company offering it because they accepted the contract to distribute a coupon offering that product or service at a discount. No rational person would. No rational liberal or leftist would — with the key word being rational.
I think Groupon is wrong about this issue. A big box-store offers lots of products, whether you need them — or WANT THEM — or not. Their offerings are based upon demand. That’s the successful business model.
Some will welcome the discounted firearms instruction class coupons (as evidenced by Yelp and Buy With Me) and some other customer will not. By not offering them at all, Groupon actually HAS taken a side — against gun rights and their potential customers who support those rights. Have I flogged this dead horse enough?
Being able to keep a firearm locked in your vehicle in the company parking lot is a battle that has been fought in several states. Now, that battle is coming to the State of Washington:
Legislation that would protect employees from losing their jobs for having firearms locked in their vehicles on company property has been introduced in Olympia by a bi-partisan group of 18 House members led by Democrat Brian Blake (19th District) and Republican Joel Kretz (7th District).

It’s not about protecting yourself while you are working. It’s about being able to protect yourself getting to (and from) your place of employment.

It will be tough to do but we on the pro-gun side have won many up-hill battles. Over at AmmoLand, details and links.
Obama Admin Tries to Cover-Up Murder
It sucks that for the ten-hours a day that I’m at work I can’t access a computer. Otherwise, I’d have been able to post this link earlier about how the current administration is corrupt beyond belief. And, the liberal MSM (NBC, CBS, NY Times, NPR, et al) will never report on it. From Judicial Watch:
The Obama Administration has abruptly sealed court records containing alarming details of how Mexican drug smugglers murdered a U.S. Border patrol agent with a gun connected to a failed federal experiment that allowed firearms to be smuggled into Mexico.
This means information will now be kept from the public as well as the media. Could this be a cover-up on the part of the “most transparent” administration in history? . . .
Read the whole thing. How’s that hopey-changey stuff workin’ out for ya’?
According to Eric Holder . . .
. . . That fake watch you bought is the cause of illegal gun sales.
Well, okay then.
Yes, they’re New Yawkers. A vegan, a former Peace Corps member, an English professor, a yoga instructor. They’re all members of the Manhattan based Women’s Shooting Sports League. From the Wall Street Journal:
But in New York City, announcing membership in a recreational shooting club can still raise eyebrows, women said. For that reason, some said they stayed away from the subject in conversation.
“I don’t mention it too much,” said Lauren Silberman, an English professor at a city university. “I think there’s a sort of discomfort with, prejudice about firearms, so I just don’t get into it.”
NYC Mayor Michael Blowhard is not amused.
9th Circuit Will Again Hear Alameda County Gun Ban
This time, it will be with the full court. From the San Jose Mercury News:
A federal appeals court on Monday once again decided to weigh in on an epic 12-year-old gun rights showdown over an Alameda County ordinance banning guns and ammunition on public property.
In a brief order, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed to rehear a legal challenge to the 1999 law, which restricts gun shows on county property, including Alameda County’s fairgrounds. The order, which calls for an 11-judge 9th Circuit panel to hear the case, wipes out a ruling from May by three 9th Circuit judges who unanimously agreed to uphold the legality of the ordinance.

Another Reason We Won’t Miss Barney Frank
There’s word-play in that lede but anyway, like pretty much all MA politicians, he hated guns:
In addition to having an “F” from the NRA for supporting gun control regulations, Frank voted affirmatively for two bills allowing for frivolous lawsuits against gun manufacturers for misuse of firearms.
Fortunately, his side lost that one. Too bad we can’t sue politicians for misuse of their office.
Appearances to the contrary, He likes it:
Mr. Gingrich, afterall has not only voted in favor of gun control, but the Brady Campaign style of gun control. He also voted for gun-free zones.
Does Rush know about this?
AZ: Get Your Picture Taken with Santa and a Gun
Your choice of gun, too. From Fox News Phoenix:
The Scottsdale Gun Club is inviting people to enjoy Santa and Machine Guns.
The family event allows people to take a holiday card picture with St. Nick — and a high-powered fire arm.
Santa poses against a backdrop of an $80,000 Garwood minigun.
Contrary to a quote in the article, I doubt that anti-gun rights types will want to participate.
Me? I think Santa and firearms go together perfectly and I keep hoping he’ll leave some for me under the Christmas tree. I’ve posted the following picture every year at Christmas:

Quietly Gobbling-Up Gun Companies
Over at the Herald Tribune, an in-depth article about the Freedom Group which, many of you are aware, has purchased such rifle makers as Bushmaster, Remington, DPMS, Marlin, and Dakota Arms in recent years.
Despite good sales last year, Freedom Group posted a loss. And, who is behind Freedom Group? Why, Cerberus Capital Management — who did so well with Chrysler Corp.
Protesters refer to Walmart shoppers as “whores.” Yes, that will win them over. Video at the link.

New Dr. Who Movie in the Works
Ahh, all those campy sci-fi shows on PBS over the years, coming to the big screen. For those of you who enjoyed the four most recent Harry Potter movies, you’ll be glad to know that director David Yates has decided to tackle Dr. Who:
Longtime fans may be distressed (and new fans may be relieved) to learn that Yates has no intention of connecting his new film with the current show’s continuity. “[Recent series writers] Russell T. Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch,” says Yates. The director has every intention of staying true to the spirit of the source material: the story of a time-traveling, tweed-clad adventurer who fights evil wherever - and whenever - it occurs, armed with a sidekick and a surprisingly versatile screwdriver. Still, some changes will be in order, especially to fit it into a two-hour format. “It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena.”
Something to look forward to if Yates does as good a job as he did with Potter.
Canada: You Can’t Use an Illegal Gun Legally
Let me sum-up this story quickly: Elderly man shoots violent home intruder. That would be legal except that his gun was not licensed or registered by Canadian authorities. Elderly man receives house arrest while thug receives probation. And, the National Post editorial says it could have been much worse for the victim, prosecution-wise. Full story here.
Canada channels England.
Anyway, that should be a warning for those of you here in the U.S. who might have a firearm “not permitted” under your state’s laws. If a similar situation arises, you might face the same music although there have been cases where smart cops or prosecutors have decided not to proceed with the legal sanctions.
. . . Something happens that just makes you wonder:
At one point, Hero wandered off and took a stroll in the backyard. All of a sudden, the clouds broke and a light began to solidify in a beam directly down on Hero — a kind of vertical halo.
