The Internet Archive discovers and captures web pages through many different web crawls.
At any given time several distinct crawls are running, some for months, and some every day or longer.

Web wide crawl with initial seedlist and crawler configuration from March 2011. This uses the new HQ software for distributed crawling by Kenji Nagahashi.
What’s in the data set:
Crawl start date: 09 March, 2011
Crawl end date: 23 December, 2011
Number of captures: 2,713,676,341
Number of unique URLs: 2,273,840,159
Number of hosts: 29,032,069
The seed list for this crawl was a list of Alexa’s top 1 million web sites, retrieved close to the crawl start date. We used Heritrix (3.1.1-SNAPSHOT) crawler software and respected robots.txt directives. The scope of the crawl was not limited except for a few manually excluded sites.
However this was a somewhat experimental crawl for us, as we were using newly minted software to feed URLs to the crawlers, and we know there were some operational issues with it. For example, in many cases we may not have crawled all of the embedded and linked objects in a page since the URLs for these resources were added into queues that quickly grew bigger than the intended size of the crawl (and therefore we never got to them). We also included repeated crawls of some Argentinian government sites, so looking at results by country will be somewhat skewed.
We have made many changes to how we do these wide crawls since this particular example, but we wanted to make the data available “warts and all” for people to experiment with. We have also done some further analysis of the content.
If you would like access to this set of crawl data, please contact us at info at archive dot org and let us know who you are and what you’re hoping to do with it. We may not be able to say “yes” to all requests, since we’re just figuring out whether this is a good idea, but everyone will be considered.

Friday Cat Blogging - Fat Brown Cat
Poor Rocky Girl. She probably wonders why I call her "Fat Brown cat", sometimes. It's because when my neighbor took care of the cats, a couple months ago, she said she only saw Mango,(she wouldn't have seen Mango - any time I go for over a day, he goes to the vet) Lady Fortuna, and a "fat brown cat". Hee hee. That sounded so funny to me.

Okay, so maybe these critters really aren't kitties, but they were the closest we saw while at Grand Cayman. I'm not sure which type of iguana this one is.Our tour guide said that the Green Iguana (Common Iguana) isn't native to the island, and is pushing the native iguanas out. Blue Iguanas/Grand Cayman Ground Iguanas (not pictured) are native to the island, and are on the endangered species list. Full list.

Friday Cat Blogging - No new cat picture this week.
This little sweetie agreed to be the Friday Cat photo this week. Isn't he cute? I know he's a cat because he doesn't bark. Of course, he doesn't meow, either! :)

Rocky Girl advised me to use envelopes and stamps, instead of relying on E-mail. She said to do it because our Internet slowed down once they buried the cable. (I wonder what is with that?) I think she said it to divert my attention from all the cat hair behind her. Anyway, I turned off the computer for the week, but didn't send out any letters.

This is Cat. She lives near my mother's place. One day, my mother was riding with the neighbor, and they stopped somewhere to pick up fireworks. The neighbor went into the tent, and came out with fireworks and the cat. What a great deal!

The princess is sitting on my lap while I post this beautiful picture of her. I'm sure she's pleased that it's her picture, this week, and not some strange cat...or even one of her siblings. It sure is easy to make her happy.

When I am ready to give Mango his shot, I yell, "Mango! Mango! It's time for your shot!" All the cats come running. I give him his shot, and some chicken, then I open the Fancy Feast can. Oh, boy! I have cats meowing and twirling around. I give them each a fork of it, and that makes them verrry happy.

Close up, you can see that Parker Dmitri needs to have her back shaved. One day, it looked like she had some sort of oil, or grease, on her back. I decided I would give her a bath. As soon as the water hit her back, she persuaded me that she did not need the bath. Unfortunately, her fur is so thick, that it immediately started matting. She doesn't allow me to cut the mats out, so I called the vet. The receptionist didn't know if the person who shaves dogs will shave a cat, and she never called me back. I guess Parker Dmitri is happy enough with the matted fur, but it doesn't look as nice as it could.

How about another picture of Grey Feather on her ottoman? I think this would make a delightful advertising picture. I wonder if the company would pay me, if I sent it in. Surely, they could send a few cans of Fancy Feast - but not the beef flavor. Grey Feather and Parker Dmitri, both, think they've eaten tastier Fancy Feast flavors. The other three enjoy the beef flavor. I think all five prefer the turkey in gravy, and tuna or ocean whitefish flavors.

These two kitties are kincats of Parker Dmitri. I think the calico is her mother, and the other is her sister. I haven't taken any pictures of the kitties here, for a while. They're wondering why. I haven't felt like doing much, it's been so stinking hot! They're lucky the cat boxes get cleaned, and they get treats.
Maybe this weekend I can get some good pictures to share.

Sgt Mango doesn't usually look so rough. At the time of this picture, both of his lower fangs were loose. He was so snaggle-toothed, I kept hoping they would fall out. Later, he lost one. A couple days after that, the other was missing. He looks so much better. I'm sure he feels a lot better, too. They looked so painful.

Recently, I met two cats who reminded me of my own sweet Princess Grey Feather. Even though Damien is black, he has the same face and body type. Sebastian is the same color as PGF. Aren't they both cuties?!?!?

**Saddly, R.I.P. to Bryan's Income, another Grey Feather look-a-like.
I was walking past a bush, when I heard a little voice say, "meow". I stopped to take a picture of the kitty. Luckily for you, I decided to post the kitty picture tonight.

Lady Fortuna is getting ready to eat. Like a good little girl, she is cleaning her face and hands. She'll probably have to clean them again, once she's finished eating. That's okay. It's not like she has to go to work or anything!
