MineCon: Hands-on With Scrolls

By Mike Nelson | PC Previews | Nov 18, 2011 7:40 PM | Comment

A couple of months ago I downloaded Magic: The Gathering and still have yet to actually double-click on the icon and start playing it. I'm a busy man, what can I say? I bring up this game in particular because there will no doubt be some comparisons being drawn between the collectible card game and Mojang's upcoming title, Scrolls. Earlier today I managed to get some hands-on time with the upcoming game and while much of its core is in place, it still has a lot to prove in order to distinguish itself from other such games in the genre. MineCon: New Details for Scrolls, Cobalt

By Mike Nelson | PC News | Nov 18, 2011 1:31 PM | Comment

Today at MineCon we learned a little bit more about two of Mojang's upcoming games: Scrolls and Cobalt. During a brief presentation for the press we learned that both titles are expected to be released in early 2012, and will continue the same cost-of-development plan like that of the original Minecraft: for a small fee you'll be able to play the game early, even though it's in an incomplete state. Also, it's been confirmed that Cobalt itself will only support local multiplayer where-as Scrolls will require an online connection in order to play. Read More »

By Mike Nelson | PC News | Nov 18, 2011 1:30 PM | Comment

Earlier today we had a chance to sit down for a brief conversation with Mojang's Game Designer, Jens Bergensten, who will become Minecraft's lead developer shortly after the conclusion of the MineCon event. Affectionately known as "Jeb," we talk with him about the Con, favorite additions to Minecraft, and why the team decided to create an "end game" boss. Read More »

GameSpy's Star Wars: The Old Republic Concerns

By Leif Johnson | PC Previews | Nov 18, 2011 9:00 AM | Comment

Until today, BioWare has kept the majority of the details about Star Wars: The Old Republic locked away as securely as a Skywalker on Tatooine. The Money Making Game: SOE's Bold F2P Shift

By Chris Morris | PC News | Nov 17, 2011 3:18 PM | Comment

On the surface, giving your product away for free – especially if it has been a revenue generator for you for years – doesn't make a lot of sense. But sometimes, that sort of radical move can be the kick in the pants aging games need to become relevant once more in an increasingly crowded marketplace. Case in point: Sony Online Entertainment, which may not have started the MMO trend, but certainly was the first to truly capitalize on it, has been spending a lot of time lately exploring the free-to-play business model, converting a pair of games that have historically charged monthly subscription fees. And the early trends are astonishingly encouraging. Read More »

Jurassic Park: The Game PC Review

By Mike Sharkey | PC Reviews | Nov 17, 2011 10:09 AM | Comment

Telltale Games is making a big multiplatform push with Jurassic Park: The Game, simultaneously launching on Windows, Mac, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and iOS. After playing through the four-episode, roughly 10-hour adventure on PC, one thing stood out: Jurassic Park feels like a game meant to be played on another platform -- specifically the touchscreen-controlled iPad.
