What's New in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive?

By Nick Winter | PC Previews | Nov 16, 2011 2:25 PM | Comment

Let's be honest here. The Counter-Strike series, at least graphically, is in desperate need of an extreme makeover. Counter-Strike: Source still looks like a game that came out during the Half-Life 2 era (largely because it is a game from the Half-Life 2 era), while Counter-Strike: 1.6, well, let's just say you can probably run that dinosaur on a Pentium processor powered by a potato and a couple of AA batteries. BF3: Post-Launch Developer Q&A

By Bennett Ring | PC Articles | Nov 16, 2011 2:03 PM | Comment

It's been three long weeks since Battlefield 3 lined us up in front of a tank cannon loaded with awesome, before blowing us away with its technological prowess and deep core gameplay. In that time we're yet to see a PC patch, and day by day the forums are becoming a noisier home of frustration. We managed to track down the impressively tri-named Karl Magnus Troedsson, CEO of Dice and the man responsible for that statement about the consoles switching to lead platform, to find out what's the deal – where's the patch? When will the IRNV cheat be toned back? And didn't he realize that statement would stir up a whole bunch of PC nerd-rage?

By Mike Nelson | PC News | Nov 16, 2011 10:16 AM | Comment

I've been keeping tabs on Almost Human Games' indie dungeon crawler for a couple of months now. So consider me excited when I read on their official blog to find out the game has entered an alpha state. While this might be a great milestone to reach in development, the team makes it pretty clear that there is still a lot of work left to be done. Read More »

Saints Row: The Third PC Review

By Dan Griliopoulos | PC Reviews | Nov 15, 2011 11:44 AM | Comment

Saints Row: The Third continues the franchise's trend of joyously inventive bad taste. I've raced gimp-pulled pony-carts, I've fired pedestrians out of Dr Genki's Manapult, and I've beaten more hookers to death in Whored Mode than I'd like to admit. Whatever Saints Row: The Third is, whatever it does, I'm sure of this: it'll never be tasteful, and I'll never be bored playing it. Read More »

Behind the Music: Gaming's Best Composers Speak

By Dan Staines | PC Special Features | Nov 15, 2011 5:39 AM | Comment

Making music for videogames is no easy thing. In addition to the inherent difficulties associated with any creative process, composers who work with videogames face an array of unique artistic, technical, and organizational challenges. Perhaps even more than their contemporaries in film and television, videogame composers must be supremely flexible and able to write for a variety of popular and esoteric genres, sometimes all within the same game. And that's just for starters. To get some real insight into the process of composing music for videogames, we contacted four of the industry's biggest names -- Sam Hulick, Jason Graves, Sascha Dikiciyan, and Cris Velasco -- and asked them to talk in-depth about the unique challenges they faced on their latest projects.
