New poll up

Another faction related poll. Do factions need a less generic face and should we see some more faces that make up the big picture?

Fallout is one of the better examples already, but in the interest of progress let's pursue this. Let's take raiders. Fallout 3 especially had them portrayed as cannibalistic psychopaths with no sense of self-preservation or even common sense. Which, in all fairness, is what we picture raiders as. But it was literally every raider that was like that. Where's the sod that lost his family to tragedy (a.k.a. deatchclaws) and went temporarily insane in grief and loss. Then, after slowly returning into the land of the sane he finds himself member of a gang of raiders, part of a new, dysfunctional family. He cares for them, they took him in, comforted him, gave him time & space to heal a bit - he can't just leave, no matter that they're a bunch a stealing no good junkies. There's stories behind each one and very few of them turned raider by choice. Can he fault them?
Should there be more background "fluff", stories told to paint the picture of the wasteland and it's factions?

Last weeks poll - Brotherhood of Steel - to be or not to be?
Split opinion there. With a slight majority tending towards them fading away. It'd be a shame if you ask me.

I think that - unless they open themselves to fresh blood and change their "foreign policies" - they've doomed themselves to dwindle and vanish in the annals of history. - 75
54.35%
The Brotherhood survived for more then 200 years against many odds and sometimes overwhelming forces but always stood their ground. They'll continue on, true to their ideals and quest to preserve technology. - 63

Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition Release Date

7:48 AM - - BERJAYA 0 Comments
As many of you expected, and asked for, Bethesda just announced the compilation Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition:
We’re pleased to announce the Fallout: New Vegas® Ultimate Edition will be available in retail stores across North America on February 7th 2012 and throughout Europe on February 10th. The Ultimate Edition comes complete with all of the game add-on content for Fallout: New Vegas - Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, Lonesome Road, Courier’s Stash and Gun Runners’ Arsenal.

For players who are seasoned explorers of New Vegas or just getting into the game for the first time, the Ultimate Edition expands beyond the Wasteland like never before with the Sierra Madre Casino, Zion National Park, Big MT research crater and the treacherous Divide now open for exploring. Along with new areas to explore, each of the four main add-on packs increases the maximum level cap by five levels, ultimately raising the cap to level 50.

Time to speculate on some factions and where we go from here. Let's start with the big icons of Fallout - the men of steel with the big effing guns - The Brotherhood of Steel.

So the Brotherhood has been around for some 200 years, having survived against a great many odds and foes in held true to their quest and ideals (well, most of them) to preserve technology for the good of all mankind. Often by pissing off some of said mankind, killing them to get shiny tech or standing by while all went to hell just as long as they got that modified laser rifle safely back to their hideout. The fates of individuals have never held much value to the BoS, especially not those of outsiders.
Which is probably why they're not the most liked faction around, despite having done a good deal of good.
So then - what's your take on their future prospects? Will they make it? Shape up and thrive another 200 years? Or simply vanish and get lost in history, since nobody in the wasteland seems to have much time to document history for generations to come?

Last weeks poll - vehicle combat, racing etc. as showcased in Rage - should the next Fallout take pointers?
Seems, as always, we got split opinions. A good number of voters really want that in and an even good number of voters rather not. Who would have thunk? Fallout fans have always been such an agreeable bunch. ;)

Yes please. I thoroughly enjoyed those aspects and couldn't be happier seeing them implemented in Fallout. - 50

Nope. Fallout has enough FPS as it is. And I just don't see Bethesda making vehicles work all that well. - 50

FONV: The End of Plot Mod

3:02 PM - - BERJAYA 0 Comments
FONV: The End of Plot Mod is a tremendous new mod by The Engineers Guild Giskard:
The End of Plot Mod stops the game from ending when you finish any of the 4 possible endings to the Fallout New Vegas Main Quest and tries to clean up the end of plot game a little. It also cleans up the Hover dam.

In the end stage of each of those quests result box is the command "StartQuest VEnding" which ends the game. This mod disables that command and replaces it with "startquest EOPStartQuest" which starts this mods own clean up quest that allows you to keep playing. You will still recieve the rewards for finishing the quest, but you will not see the end movie, the game will simply continue as normal after teleporting you back to the Hover Dam.

Unmasking the Gamers: Tim Cain

8:14 AM - - BERJAYA 0 Comments
Now that Tim Cain, one of the co-creators of the Fallout series, has joined Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian (thanks Giskard and NMA), it's time to read an interview with His Falloutness by Gamasutra:
WO: You've joined Obsidian right after they've completed Fallout: New Vegas - what did you think of the game? And what are your views on how the franchise has progressed from your original vision?

TC: I really liked Fallout: New Vegas. I thought it was the most Fallout-y of the post-original games, especially humor-wise, and I think the designers at Obsidian really understand and respect the franchise. And I do like how the game has been extended in many ways, into 3D play, into real-time combat, and into new areas of the world. These extensions enrich the IP and bring it to a new audience of gamers.

WO: With New Vegas examining humanity in a post-post-apocalyptic world, what are your opinions of what the series should strive for in the long run? And is there perhaps a risk that, the further into the future that it takes place, the less Fallout-like it will be?

TC: I think there are lots of areas in the Fallout IP that are ripe for exploring. And I don't think that people should be afraid that such exploration will make for a lesser Fallout. Expanding the IP is always a good thing, as long as its nature stays true to the original. That nature consists of exploration (both of the exterior world and one's inner self), of examining gray areas (because what important ideas are truly black and white), and of finding humor in the darkest situations.

I mentioned in a recent interview that I am for the repealing of copyright extensions. I feel that 28 years is more than enough time for a creator to make money off of his creation. After that, I want people to be encouraged to explore the works of other artists and to try to extend them in ways their original creator never imagined. There is a risk that horrible products will be generated, but that's a risk we should take to allow the occasional diamond in the rough to shine through.

WO: Fans of the series might be allowing themselves to get a bit excited over the prospect of Cain-Sawyer-Avellone contributing to a future Fallout title, even though its early days and, of course, provided Bethesda outsources another future game to Obsidian. Fingers crossed?

TC: As I said above, anything is possible.

Here we go, another poll to quench you thirst for clicking buttons and have an opinion. We aim to serve. :P

Rage, IDs latest shooter, is set in another post-apocalyptic future. Like Fallout it's desert like, filled with mutants, raiders and fellow wastelanders just trying to survive. Unlike Fallout it has working vehicles, racing and vehicle combat. Something some of us, e.g. me, have wanted ever since watching Mad Max.
So then, should Bethesda take a prolonged peek at Rage and take some pointers?

On to the previous poll. Multiplayer in Fallout - go or no? As often this is a split vote. Co-op seems like an attractive option, sharing some mutant bashing with your best buddies sure sounds brotastic. And I'm only mildly sarcastic. :P
But quite a large portion of our voters are perfectly fine with the lone wanderer theme.

Maybe a co-op mode to play together with your best buddy and watch each others back. - 86
47.51%
No. Fallout should remain a sandbox single player game. - 61
33.70%
Either keep it single player or make the full effort and make it a MMO. - 29
16.02%
Only as a separate PvP mode in a smaller area. Maybe scrounge for items, build traps and weapons and try to kill each other. - 3
1.66%
I've got this idea I'll detail in the comments... - 2

Apologies for the lack of polls the last weeks, I was having some ISP troubles. It's fixed now, so back to questionably awesome polls.

On to the poll. Once more it's about whether or not Fallout needs multiplayer support. Not so long ago we heard the announcement that another big RPG - Mass Effect 3 - will have some multiplayer support. So I figure why not re-evaluate Fallout. Could - and maybe even more importantly - should something similar be attempted for the next Fallout?

To put my oponion on the table, and feel free to disagree - Fallout has always been a game about a long wanderer trying to beat the odds. Yes, I'm fully aware you had companions, sometimes more then one. But to me it usually was just about making my way through a broken land, trying to scrounge together what I could and beat the odds that seemed to surmount against me. Exploration was key and that meant more or less randomly heading into the unknown, looking for the new, the shiny, the nasties and anything that didn't run away fast enough. Which in the end, to me, means no to multiplayer. I just don't see it working and I hate it when developers try to cram multiplayer into singleplayer games just so their PR department can spin it. It's usually detrimental to the game itself and god-aweful on it's own compared to true multiplayer games. But that's just my 2 cents.

On to the previous poll. Not much to say about it, so I'll let the numbes speak for themselves.
