Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users,Pretty shitty of those h4x0r d00ds to hit Valve. Hopefully they've got some leads on who was behind the attack, there was a URL to a cheating focused website left behind when the hack first started. Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums.
We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.
We don't have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely.
While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well.
We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn't be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password.
We will reopen the forums as soon as we can.
I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience.
Gabe.

Ooooohhhhhhhhh! Steam is telling me that Skyrim unlocks today, I think last time I checked the estimate it gave me it should be about 10PM my time. I know a lot of you are waiting for all the launch day junk to work itself out, but I can't help myself, I've got it pre-loaded and I'm ready to rock. I've always been versions of humans in the Elder Scrolls games, I think I might finally reel in my prejudice and try out an Argonian or Khajiit.
As for play direction, I plan to immediately run as far off the beaten path as possible, and probably continue in this way until I get bored of not seeing any dragons, and then finally do some of the main quest to get that rolling. I'll probably go for the stealth class first, being a bow assassin with magical tendencies. Also I plan to fully exploit the skill system if possible, and constantly jump everywhere I go, or put something on my keyboard so I am sneaking into a wall near an enemy for two hours and get my sneak skill mastered - assuming they haven't fixed that this go around. What I won't do is make a magical armor set that gives me 100% chameleon, that's just not fair.
Let me know what your first three goals are going to be once you enter the land of Skyrim. Mine will be as follows - 1. Water walking shoes, 2. Buy a house, 3. Avoid getting married as long as possible.
Happy Skrimday/Thursday everyone, and if you're not going to be busy playing, I'm sure OhmWrecker will be giving you his impressions in the near future.
Also, what would you do if you came across the following in-game while playing Skyrim? Tell me what you'd do in the comments, and I'll reply with the result. It's like choose your own adventure, but more random!

Paradox Interactive was kind enough to supply us with some codes for Supreme Ruler: Cold War, which just received a substantial patch recently. That sounds like a perfect opportunity for a giveaway to me.
As the name implies, Supreme Ruler: Cold War is a strategy game set during that tumultuous era. Like the previous titles, you can play any country in the world, so you aren’t forced to play either of the superpowers (though you probably should if you are interested in going to the moon or reducing the planet to cinders). The scale of this series is enormous: there are a bazillion hexes (trust me, I totally counted each and every one), and pretty much every city on the planet is represented. It can be pretty daunting, but I think some of you are up for the challenge!
To enter the contest answer the following question: What is your favorite game set during the Cold War era and why? The game can be from any genre. Five winners will be picked at random and announced on Friday.
Edit: For the purposes of this contest, games that feature a cold war feeling (Defcon), cover a long period of time that includes the cold war era (Hearts of Iron, The Civilization series), or presents the cold war going hot, even in an outlandish sci fi way (Battlezone/Red Alert) count.
Set to Kanye West's Power, the two and half minute movie features characters in varying states of undress running around kicking people in the face, driving heads into the ground, leaping through car windows and much more. Frankly, it's appalling, and we love it.
I love it too. You may watch the madness below. Thanks CVG!
“The vibe of the game is that it’s something that you can play forever,” Howard said. The game’s Radiant quest system randomly generates new tasks based on your progress in the game. An innkeeper might ask you to hunt for bandits in a place you haven’t found yet, or an aspiring alchemist could request that you collect 10 undiscovered flowers for his work. Howard claims that the options are endless.
In addition to these minor tasks, Howard says you’ll be able to do extra work for each of the game’s factions, like the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild. Once you complete the scripted quest lines for each group, you can go to their respective hubs and pick up randomly generated missions to steal gems or assassinate shopkeepers across Skyrim’s massive world.
That sounds promising, especially if these quests help direct players to any interesting nook or cranny that they might have otherwise passed by.
Insect Armageddon is set in New Detroit and features a Campaign mode that lets up to three players team up online to battle the insects and aliens or grab a friend for local co-op action across the completely destructible city. The nonstop action gameplay in Insect Armageddon is the fastest and deadliest in the series. To arm the soldiers, players can purchase weapons or nab weapon pick-ups dropped by special enemies and can earn armor upgrades with each level gained. In addition, the game also features a six-player Survival mode that pits a human squad against a nonstop onslaught of the largest enemies the aliens have to offer. New Detroit’s giant bug problem is unavoidable, and mankind’s last hope lies with the Earth Defense Force to defend the world from the insect swarm, even if it means blowing up the entire city as part of the extermination process.
KEY FEATURES:
On October 27th we released the initial digital launch version of Take On Helicopters to digital distribution partners around the world, we’re very proud of the title not only because it’s a departure from the military games we’ve worked on in the past but also in how it combines storytelling with realistic helicopter flight mechanics, it was the result of a lot of thought and many long hours of hard work. One of the aspects of developing any game in this modern age is how to protect it, it’s widely known that as soon as any game is released there are those who are looking to download it for free, who for whatever reason feel that their right is to not pay for something despite all the thousands of hours that have gone into its development. Obviously game developers have a responsibility to themselves to try to protect their company’s future, but also a responsibility to the community that supports them by buying their titles, no gamer who has spent their hard earned money to buy a game wants to be playing MP against others who didn’t buy their game, no addon maker wants to have things they created over countless hours downloaded and used by people who didn’t buy the game it’s intended for. That is why we try to come up with unique and irrefutable ways to stop people from playing our games without paying for them, that’s why Take On Helicopters shipped with our unique antipiracy countermeasures.
Dating back as far as 2001 with the original Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis developed by Bohemia Interactive, the antipiracy countermeasures have been unique and whilst not initially stopped the illegal downloader from playing the game they only get a small taste before many aspects of the game, including performance start to degrade, and as the original line from Operation Flashpoint stated “Original games don’t fade”, if you don’t buy, you don’t get to enjoy!
Bohemia Interactive deploys various antipiracy countermeasures in its titles and Take On Helicopters is no exception, some users have reported morphed/watery image degradation (see this thread).
The original version of Take On Helicopters does not suffer from this degradation of visual quality. Piracy is a big problem for Bohemia Interactive, as an independent PC developer, and we’re trying to focus our support as much as possible towards users of legitimate copies. Counterfeit copies of our games may degrade and, moral aspects aside, we certainly recommend only playing the original version. We have a free public demo version of Take On Helicopters in the development pipeline for those that prefer to test it before buying.
Some important facts:
That’s when Morales spotted Adam Freeman leaving the store with his reserved copy of the game. Morales allegedly followed Freeman to his apartment in the 2000 block of N.W. 68th Terrace. When Freeman pulled into a parking lot stall, Morales allegedly parked his red Ford Explorer behind him, blocking him in.It takes some balls (or stupidity) to not hand over a $60 game to a dude pointing a gun at you. The robber was actually picked up at the very same Gamestop location, just as the police were dropping by to request surveillance camera footage. Thanks to the stunt he'll soon earn his Felon perk, and may even pick up his Bubba badge too!Freeman stepped out of his car when a young man wearing a hood approached and “racked a round” in his gun.
“Give me the game!” the gunman ordered.
“(Expletive) you!” Freeman replied.
The gunman racked another round, causing the first round to eject and fall on the ground. Freeman grabbed the gun’s barrel and pushed it back toward the gunman. The pair struggled briefly before the gunman climbed back into his vehicle and sped away.
Speaking of holiday games some of you knew I was playing Skyrim, and well, I finished that up on Sunday. After Skyrim I jumped straight into Saints Row: The Third, and finished that yesterday. Jube's checking out the PC experience of both Skyrim and Saints (PC came in later than the 360 versions), whereas I'll dish the 411 on the console versions in full. Now I've got Assassin's Creed: Revelations on my plate, which like the other games I've been looking forward to all year. Our review of Skyrim will be up on Thursday, Saints Row on Friday, and AC:R next week.
I've also got to give some love to Tribes: Ascend which is in beta now. It's pretty damn slick so far, I'm just missing the shock lance a little bit when I bust out the infiltrator class. The video of the day is actually footage that a tester grabbed while playing with a heavy class, it does a good job showing that the Tribes-like mechanics are actually pretty spot on. Well done Hi-Rez!
Before you hit play on today's video though I want to point out something that old school Demo Scene fans might enjoy. The Rochard videogame soundtrack was mostly composed by Markus Captain Kaalonen, the man behind the classic song Space Debris. He actually made a more modern remix of Space Debris as part of the game soundtrack, which can be picked up complete for about five euros. Well worth it in my opinion. Until next time, fellas!
