This is why I'm the least disappointed person in the world over Obama's decision to send military advisers into Africa:

A terror group linked with al Qaeda's affiliates in Africa has launched a series of attacks in northern Nigeria that have killed scores of people. The recent attacks launched by Boko Haram included suicide assaults, roadside bombs, and gunmen, and took place in several cities and towns in the north.

So, Nigeria made concessions to the Islamists in the north by agreeing to let provinces adopt sharia law. But that's never quite enough, is it?

A common argument for including Islamists in the political process is that the demands of democracy will moderate their positions and force them to eschew violence. This is commonly advocated in foreign policy circles as a reason why groups like the Muslim Brotherhood should be embraced.

But if Nigeria is a case study of this position, then do we that see that the most hardline Islamists -- the ones who were most likely to be violent in the first place -- will never be satisfied with sharing power and moderating sharia? And if so, then what might this tell us about a country like Egypt?

Just something to think about.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Police have arrested an Occupy Fort Collins protester in connection with a $10 million arson fire that damaged dozens of condominiums and businesses in Fort Collins.

Benjamin David Gilmore, 29, was arrested on Thursday night on suspicion of arson, burglary and criminal mischief.

#OccupyOakland rampage, destroying windows and other property. While the protesters insist the vandals are "outside agitators", notice how they collectively cheer when a window shatters.

To their credit, a few individuals try to stop the vandalism, but they are ignored. At least one is even attacked and beaten with sticks.

I was reading through the video comments last night. It appears many have been removed because, when I was reading them, a majority of them supported the actions in the video. The reasoning was, damaging property is not a violent act, therefore this was a peaceful march and that's the way all #Occupy protests should be conducted.

A few of those commenters were challenged by some questioning the attacks against people attempting to stop the vandals. The response? Those attempting to stop the vandals were at fault for defending property belonging to corporations.

That's the mentality of these #Occupy thugs. "We'll destroy what we want and, if you don't like it, YOU are the enemy."

The latest news on Gitmo detainee Abd al Rahim al Nashiri, in US custody since 2002, is that the Military Commission can not confirmthat he will be released if found not guilty. Its not in the Military Commission's jurisdiction to make those kind of pledges. Considering Nashiri was water boarded, its questionable if any of his statements will be allowed at trial, but prosecutors are confident that there is enough other evidence for a conviction.

Al Nashiri is charged with aiding the al Qaeda attack on the USS Cole in Aden port in 2000. The bombing killed 17 US service members and severely wounded dozens more. Al Nashiri selected the targets, the timing and coordinated the operatives. However, unexplored for a decade is the level of complicity by top Yemeni government officials and the failure of US intelligence to get a warning to the ship.

Prior to the attack on the USS Cole, Yemen's then Interior Minister Hussain Arab issued al Nashiri a travel pass that enabled him to pass Yemen's many internal checkpoints without search or question in the months preceding the terror attack. Al Nashiri also had a weapons permit issued by the Interior Ministry. These official documents were presented in Yemeni court during the 2005 trials of other conspirators.

In an interesting coincidence, Yemeni President Saleh ordered several top officials, including Interior Minister Arab, to travel from the capital Sana'a to Aden the night before the USS Cole was bombed there.

Saleh denied that Yemen was notified of the impending arrival of the warship. According to Centcom commander, General Zinni, in Congressional testimony, US naval officials followed the standard procedures for refueling including a two week advance notification to the host port.

It was also around two weeks prior to the attack that the military data mining group Able Danger and separately DOD analyst Kie Fallis picked up intel streams about an impending attack. Both made several attempts to obtain authorization to issue official warnings to no avail.

Kie Fallis quit the day of the Cole bombing. Able Danger's Anthony Shaffer's information never made it into the 9/11 report, although he tried. DOD later revoked Shaffer's health insurance and forced him out over a "stolen" pen that he reported taking as a souvenir as a teen.

The NSA had the "Yemen hub" (a phone line in Yemen used by al Qaeda operatives for calls to and from bin Laden and others) under heavy surveillance for over a year prior to the Cole bombing, and for about a year after. There was a satellite trained on the house in Sanaa 24/7. Oddly, the NSA never learned of or reported on the USS Cole plot.

The CIA withheld information from the FBI about an al Qaeda summit, a high level meeting in Malaysia in January 2000, at which both the Cole and 9/11 were discussed. (See former federal investigator Ali Soufan's excellent book, The Black Banners for more.)

Yemeni officials failed to cooperate with Soufan and other FBI agents in Yemen investigating the bombing. Some like the head of Yemen's Political Security Organization in Aden, Hussain al Ansi, engaged in active misdirection and stonewalling.

Ten terrorists awaiting trial for the Cole attack escaped Yemeni prison in 2002 and after surrendering, their trials resulted in sentences of five to ten years. Most escaped prison again in 2006. By 2008, all those convicted in the attack had their sentences commuted and were free. Al Nashiri, in US custody, was sentenced to death in Yemen in absentia in 2005.

The Jurist reports the Yemeni government sheltered (and lied for) al Nashiri after the bombing. The Congressional Research Service details the Cole bombers' releases and notes that, according to the Washington Post, Al Nashiri had spent several months before his capture under "high-level protection" by the Yemeni government.

After the USS Cole attack, Interior Minister Arab was transferred, appointed by Yemeni President Saleh to the Shura Council. Arab resigned and joined the Pro-Revolutionary Military Council in March 2011.

For all the bad (and false) publicity the Tea Party got for being a bunch of racists, it turns out the #Occupy movement is more white and less black than the Tea Party ever was.

A new internal poll being proudly circulated within #Occupy camps indicates only 1.6% of #Occupy protesters are black:

The second column is that of the general population. Both protest movements have a higher percent of whites and a lower percent of blacks, but the Tea Party more closely reflects mainstream America than the #OccupyWallStreet crowds do.

One amusing side note about the #OccupyWallStreet poll - the poll was conducted online by occupywallst.org and yet, they could only get 93% support for the protests? I bet TeaParty.org could get more support for the Tea Party if they had a poll... Just saying...

According to court documents, from February 2008 through at least July 2009, Yusuf, conspired with others to provide money to al Shabaab, which was designated by the U.S. State Department as a foreign terrorist organization in February 2008. Yusuf transferred money to al Shabaab under fictitious names and telephone numbers utilizing money remitting businesses operating in the United States.

Al Shabaab is a terrorist organization based in Somalia, whose objective is the overthrow of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG), eliminating the African Union support for TFG, and the imposing Shari�a law in Somalia. Al Shabaab has engaged in, and used, violence, intimidation, and acts of terrorism in Somalia and elsewhere to further its objectives.

Yusuf admitted to soliciting money from inside and outside the Eastern District of Missouri and coordinating the transfer of the money to al-Shabaab. Members of the conspiracy frequently communicated in coded language as they planned the means by which they transferred money to al Shabaab members and affiliates in Somalia.

In the video below, Brazilian drug enforcement officers bump the wing of a drug plane attempting to take off. The bump breaks the wing off and all the drug runners are arrested.

Had a U.S. Border Patrol officer done something like this, he would have been arrested for using unnecessary force, the drug runners would have been given immunity and amnesty in exchange for their testimony, and the Border Patrol agent sentence to prison.

OAKLAND -- Oakland developer Phil Tagami is used to working behind the scenes to broker some of the biggest deals in town. Late Wednesday, he was using different persuasive skills - holding a loaded shotgun to scare away rioters trying to get into a downtown building.

"We had people who attempted to break into our building," the landmark Rotunda Building on Frank Ogawa Plaza outside City Hall, Tagami said Thursday. He grabbed a shotgun that he usually keeps at home, went down to the ground floor and "discouraged them," he said.

"I was standing there and they saw me there, and I lifted it - I didn't point it - I just held it in my hands," Tagami said. "And I just racked it, and they ran."

I don't know how the protesters find the self discipline to remain peaceful when state snipers, thugs and artillery attack the protest squares around the country with such regularity, but their goal is a civil (non-theocratic, non-military) state. And there's millions, click below.

Yemen Post: Several Million of Yemeni gathered nationwide in the streets of Yemen yesterday, demanding the fall of the regime and Ali Abdullah Saleh's trial as they say the president is continuing to murder his people.

Protesters had spell out "butcher" across their chest in red ink in denunciation of president Saleh's many crimes. While carrying the coffins the crowd was chorusing anti-regime slogan, asking the international community to bear witness of the crimes committed against peaceful Yemeni people.

And in spite of the anger and the sorrow which is crushing hearts, Yemen went on chanting: "Peaceful, peaceful".

NYCC also is installing surveillance cameras and recording devices at its Brooklyn offices, removing or packing away supplies bearing the name ACORN and handing out photos of Fox News staff with a stern warning not to talk to the media, the sources said.

While no crime has been reported, Los Angeles police Cmdr. Andrew Smith told The Associated Press on Thursday that the department could investigate after Mariah Yeater filed the paternity suit against the teen heartthrob in San Diego Superior Court.

"If it's brought to our attention, of course we'll look into it," Smith said.
Yeater had just turned 19 when she says she and Bieber, then 16, had a brief sexual encounter after one of the singer's concerts at Staples Center. She said she gave birth to a boy in July and believes Bieber is the father because there were no other possible men she had sex with at that time.

Oh and congratulations Mr. Bieber, I think.

Iran's Supreme leader keeps using that word "terrorist". I do not think that word means what he thinks it means.

Is it really any surprise we see so much appeasement and indifference coming from our political leaders when it comes to sharia law? The very misogyny we find so repulsive in Islam and similar cultures is in our own backyard, sometimes being practiced by the very leaders who are charged with protecting us from such barbaric ideology.

Following the death of Saudi Crown Prince Sultan on Oct 22, King Abdullah appointed Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, Interior Minister since 1975, as Crown Prince and next in line to the throne.

Prince Nayef is best known in the US for spear heading the crack down on al Qaeda that drove many terrorists to find refuge in Yemen. The ramped up Saudi CT posture after 2003 included mass arrests (including detention without trial and torture), a multi-pronged jihaddi rehabilitation program, increased security measures including a border fence with Yemen. A media campaign designed to shame al Qaeda included televised condemnations from the terrorists' families that increased social pressure.

Nayef's successes against AQ prompted Yemen's AQAP to target him for assassination during a feigned surrender in Aug 09. Nayef suffered only light injuries from a PETN bomb designed by Ibrahim al Asiri (still at large in Yemen), whose brother was the suicide bomber.

Nayef is also known as a "conservative," and in Saudi Arabia that means thwarting popular efforts toward civil rights and governmental accountability. Nayef is a strong supporter of the supremacist, takfiri Wahabbi doctrine and infrastructure. Domestically he undercut efforts at incremental reforms, including women driving or voting, as well as the continued repression of Saudi Shia's demands for equal rights.

Nayef served as the de facto head of Saudi Arabia when both the King and Prince Sultan faced medical issues over the last years. Nayef signed off on the deployment of the Saudi military to Bahrain to augment efforts the violent crack down on Bahrain's Arab Spring (and its Shia majority.)

In Yemen, Saudi Arabia overtly committed substantial war crimes during the Saada War, which was fought near the Yemen/Saudi border. The kingdom provided billions of dollars to President Saleh, and Saudi fighter jets conducted months of air strikes in Yemen, aimed at the annihilation of the Shia Houthi rebels.

These well documented of Saudi violations of international law include indiscriminately bombing villages and civilian infrastructure, denying border passage for humanitarian aid and returning Yemeni refugees to the war zone (refouling).

Wikileaks cables reveals that the Saudis were well aware that Saudi airstrikes in Yemen caused substantial civilian fatalities, and successfully leveraged the bombing of a Yemeni hospital and other mistakes to obtain satellite imagery from the US. The Saudi's aggressive posture toward the Houthis was largely fueled by fear of its own repressed Shia minority.

Earlier this year, Nayef and his son assumed control over Saudi Arabia's patronage network in Yemen, through which the kingdom distributes billions in direct payments to Yemeni Sheikhs, clerics and politicians as well as Wahabbi institutes and organizations.

Earlier this year Nayef publicly admonished a member of the mainly consultative Shura Council who had called for a review of the ban on women driving.

"This means less for Saudi Arabia's external relations than it does internally because a lot of people there, especially women, are apprehensive that Nayef will close back down some of the space that Abdullah has opened up around individual citizens," said Thomas Lippman, a Saudi Arabia specialist at the Middle East Institute in Washington...

Nayef has strong support among Saudi Arabia's Wahhabi clerics. But he is said to have little sympathy for political Islamist groups, like the Muslim Brotherhood, which he views as a threat to the ruling family's grip on power...In the run-up to Saudi Arabia's 2005 municipal elections, it was Nayef who decided that women should not be allowed to vote. Scholars say he may pursue policies that expand his base of support within security services and Islamist groups.

The media is reporting #OccupyOakland protests as "mainly peaceful". That exact phrase is being used by several media outlets.

I guess they got the memo. Oh wait, here are a few original descriptions of the day. This one says "mostly peaceful." Here's a "largely" peaceful. And this one says "predominantly" peaceful. Check out the big brain on Brett! I guess those thesauruses come in handy after all!

This one just uses "peaceful" and goes on to tell readers "no injuries or property damage were reported." Really? Let's see that "peaceful" protest with no property damage:

#OccupyOakland protesters bang on vehicles and refuse to allow drivers to proceed. Protesters, in essence, were illegally detaining drivers, violating them of their rights.

#OccupyOakland protesters climb on trucks, preventing the truck drivers from hauling their load. For people protesting the lack of jobs, they are certainly doing their part to harm working people.

This is not the first time this has happened there. Its a regular theme of protests there to tie up traffic. The last time as I recall was when "green" protesters who were advocating for bicycle traffic held up cars and a couple folks tried to draw fouls from passing drivers there.

A few days ago, an Oakland protester admitted they were hurling bottles and rocks at police:

During the melee between protesters and police, ex-Marine Scott Olsen was seriously injured by a blow to the head. Protesters insist he was struck by a police �flash-bang� grenade. But investigation suggests it wasn't the police who caused his injury:

The Sheriff�s Department said an internal investigation unit is reviewing the incident, but it�s unlikely the identified deputies caused Olsen�s injury. Spokeswoman Eileen Hirst said 35 of the 37 Sheriff�s Department personnel on site for the raid were not carrying projectiles, and the two who were equipped with them did not fire.

The projectile was thrown by other protesters, not the police. Now they are shown to be liars.

But the @OccupyOakland protesters won't let truth get in the way of their propaganda. They are still posting personal information about officers present during the incident.

The Joyeuse Union Don Bosco [Joyous Union Don Bosco] takes place in N�mes, at the Sanctuary of Our Lady the Virgin of Santa Cruz, built by French people repatriated from the Algerian city of Oran following Algerian independence. These people were driven out of the place they grew up in by Muslim aggression. Now they face it in France too!

After a day of welcoming and reunions, around 7 pm, the participants were leaving in their cars and vehicles when "young Arab immigrants" from the city started to throw stones at the vehicles descending from the sanctuary.

The local police, whose station is in this area, were immediately notified and the event organisers had to arrange a diversion to another route to protect the occupants of the vehicles from the savage attacks which continued.

As for the press, other than a brief honest article in "la Provence", there was no mention of the "intifada" (war of stones) attacks against the Christian religious community at N�mes.
