over the last four days the washington post has run a series about vp dick cheney's activities as vp. since i kinda like mr cheney i've followed the articles and read them with interest each day. the post has them on its website - i highly recommend giving them a read if you have a chance...

my biggest problem with the series - although it's not just this series, it's everything the post publishes - is that it's written from a negative point of view. it's written not to show how good these things are that mr cheney has accomplished - but how bad they are - - how he upset and alienated colin powell and is not on the closest of terms with condelezza rice as he maneuvered and managed resources within the white house staff to move agenda items forward. they even was as far as to suggest that most of what mr cheney has done has been without the president's knowledge or approval - - which i find very hard to believe, but again it just shows the approach that the post uses when they do these type of stories.

i'd love to point out to you a part of the article that was done in any kind of positive light - - but i haven't found one yet - - it's very obvious that the post is not a dick cheney fan.

even after pointing all that out - - i still read and re-read (i subscribe to the post, so i have kept all the series) the articles - they do a great job of point out how one vp approaches his job and makes the system work for him. needless to say other vp s have done the same thing and had to make things work for them - mostly behind the scenes because that is how the vp operates.

anyway - i digress without intention - - if you have a chance check out the post's site and read about vice president cheney. just don't expect any kind of positive writing as you do......

kinda busy tonight - - but i wanted to make a comment on a current lawsuit that ended today - this case has been on all the national news channels....

nyah nyah nyah!!!

the administrative judge who was suing the dry cleaners for $54 million lost!!!

the judge who heard the case stated that he didn't prove has case sufficiently to explain why he should be able to sue for such a large amount of money, didn't prove that the pants the cleaners did give back him weren't his or were not done correctly and generally wasn't convincing considering the amount of the lawsuit.

there is some sanity in the judicial world.

by the way, it was also reported that he was not going to be recommended to continue as an administrative judge!

another by the way, the korean folks that own the cleaners are considering filing to have him pay their court costs - - which are a bit over $100,000.....

and they have decided not to close their business and go back to korea - they're going to stay here and continue in business - - however the "satisfaction guaranteed" sign is history - it will not be displayed in their store anymore....

can ya blame them?!

ya know, i really don't dislike hollywood - - i enjoy being entertained - distracted from lifes realities for a bit. i enjoy a good movie, love to laugh at comedies, have been known to shed a tear on a good drama - - -

my problem with hollywood is that they tend to use their "podium" to spread the nonsense they think and believe out to the rest of us. i find angeline jolie to be a find actress - she's done some wonderful things on the screen - - but her politics are of absolutely no interest to me. i don't care that she adopts kids or has her own or whatever. not interested. same with the b*tch that used to be on the view - at one time she was a really funny female comedian - did some really funny standup stuff - - then someone told her that her political and personal life was of importance to the rest of the world - it's gone to sh*t from there.....somehow we need to let these idiots know that we really truly honestly don't give a damn about their political leanings and they fur sure are not going to set the tones for things to happen in this country.

these people should concentrate on entertaining us - - come up with some NEW movies, stop remaking crappie movies just to show us another new face. get back into comedies, science fiction, tear jerkin chick flicks.....whatever....but make 'em new and fresh....

end of rant - - - i should know better than to watch "entertainment news" - - fires me up that those folks get a platform for their politics for free - - while those who really might make a difference can't get heard if they try.....

here's a link to the weirdest story i've read this week. i'm not even able to comment on it - it's soooo silly, stupid - - you can probably guess where it comes from before you even click the link......when you read the article pay attention to the reason this ban is put into place....... :)

time just zooms by sometime....here it is gonna be thursday already...

there's been sooo much happening in the news lately - - on so many different fronts, that it's difficult to pick a particular thing to stick with....

like i'm always sad to hear about/read about mom's disappearing, kid alerts for missing children, fires that kill firefighters or anyone for that matter, more soldiers dying in afghanistan or iraq or anywhere else....

politics is always interesting reading - - i hate to say this - - but i'm actually impressed with hillary's latest political video - - saw it on fox & friends this morning. nice work! good filming - good script - good use of recognizable people - and a great way to attract just the people she's trying to attract: techies and internet geeks....((like me - - i admit to my "geekiness").....have to give her credit on this one - i think she's onto something....

then there's the "we're bad, we're gonna accomplish everything" dems in congress. someone please name one successful thing they've passed since they took over...nothing is the correct answer.....and it's not the fault of the gop - - they can't even agree among themselves. if there was ever a time to say vote 'em all out - this may be it......they've proven themselves to be completely useless...

we can always count on nyc to give us something to talk about. now its the wishy-washy mayor bloomberg who changed from a dem to a rep to get elected as mayor and now has decided that he's really "non-aligned" with either party so he's unaffiliated now. word is that this sets him up for a run for the presidency as an independent -- - but since we've never really had a truly serious run put on by an independent this isn't particularly exciting news. mediocre independents like bloomberg just tend to mess up the elections because they're not strong enough candidates to put on a real run at the office.....plus ya gotta figure that the guy has problems anyway - -doesn't know if he's a liberal or a conservative or what he is...as toby says ya gotta stand for something......

after 6pm on a monday evening and it is still 95 degrees here! we knew it was going to be hot because at 6:30am this morning it was 78 already....and dry - - they're saying we have a chance at rain tomorrow - - sure hope it turns out that way and that we get some of it out here.....it is terribly dry around here for this time in June.......

terrible tragedies here over the week-end - - car of girls - two of whom had just graduated high school - - cut over to exit from the beltway and clipped a semi...three of them didn't make.....

then there was that dragster in Kentucky that tore into the crowd....just terrible stuff.....hate to hear about this kind of accidents...and even though the search is on for the "why" part - - they're simply accidents....lives ended early...

i heard today that the baltimore orioles fired their manager - - i think i should apply for the job - - baseball needs fresh blood -- - folks that know baseball but aren't involved in the professional world. put a little life back in the game....
this nonsense of circulating old coaches and managers around really isn't good....maybe i'll go to the orioles web page and tell 'em i want to be the new manager.........hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

good day today! we went down to a local flea market that we haven't been to in quite some time....and except to visit the local produce folks, we probably won't go back!

somehow flea markets have changed - - you don't see the folks who cleaned out their garage or basement or attic anymore - - - the local flea market is now full of vendors! junk hundreds of t-shirt vendors and sneakers and ball caps - - all the same.......it's amazing....

fortunately the Mennonites and Amish folks around here all show up - - with home grown veggies and fruits and eggs and home made baked goods and all kinds of stuff. we picked up some really nice sweet cherries, small yellow squash and some fresh snap beans! should make a great crock pot full of beans and red potatoes....

when we lived in florida a good friend and i had a antique place in a local indoor flea market. we had a ball - - we travelled a lot to yard sales and some of the big area flea markets (canton, texas) - - to pick out stuff to keep in the shop.

i really really enjoyed that time. would love to open another place like that. one of our best drives was across tennessee when they have the 125-odd mile long yard sale. that's fun.....

i think one of the most unusal things we had (and we had some weird stuff in the shop) was a yard ornament that was made back in the early 1900's - - best estimate we had put it somewhere around 1930 or 1940 - - anyway, it was a frog - - but not just any frog - - it was huge! came up to your knees! and was painted appropriately - bright green with big white eyes.....lol we had that darn frog out front of the shop for nearly a year before someone bought it!! that thing was so neat...wife wouldn't let me bring it up....

another thing i miss about florida - and the south in general - - is boilt peanuts - - i love boilt peanuts - - i know, it's an acquired thing - - but i like 'em - - been known to puy some raw peanuts and boil my own....mmmmmmm good stuff...

sorry for the ramble - - - happy father's day to all you dad's out there....

enjoy your day...... :)

well it's friday - - and i should be fishing - - but i'm in the office - - least for a little while - - hoping i can sneak out around lunch time - - maybe head down and fish for the afternoon and early evening.....weather's been cool the last couple days so fishing might be good on this last of the cool days...

father's day week-end - - all you father's out the have a hapy week-end and do something fun!

shoprat has an excellent post today over at his site - - please go visit and read his friday post. it's outstanding....

finally managed to pick up some new bluegrass music - - got the new cd by Blue Highway - - named Marbletown. good cd - - if you're a bluegrass fan, look it up on amazon and give the samples a listen. we also picked up the 30year anthology collection by Dry Branch Fire Squad - - they're one of our most favorite groups. and allison kraus had a new cd out so we picked it up. i haven't got to listen to it yet, the wife abscounded with it and its in her car still - - so it must be good!
all three of those are avail at amazon -- plus they have samples of the songs online so you can hear parts of them.....

for all the military folks out there and their leaders -- keep doing what you're doing! you're terrific and i thank you and thank you for all that you do....be proud...

i love old westerns! especially spaghetti westerns! they're the best!

and i'm watching one of my favorites this afternoon - - it's called My Name is Nobody with Terrence Hill and Henry Fonda (circa 1973) - - classic! Terrence Hill is probably my favorite spaghetti western star - - nobody plays a better gunfighter than he does......

eastwood is also a favorite - - his early westerns are the best - - Hang 'em High, Fist Full of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly - - - great, classic westerns!

highly recommend the western channel if you have the movie package....

i don't usually post jokes.....but someone emailed me this and i think it's funny in today's happenings....

Nominee for Best Joke of the year...

A Somali arrives in Minneapolis as a new immigrant to the United States. He stops the first person he sees walking down the street and says, "Thank you Mr. American for letting me in this country, giving me housing, food stamps, free medical care, and free education!"

The passerby says, "You are mistaken, I am Mexican."

The man goes on and encounters another passerby.

"Thank you for having such a beautiful country here in America!"

The person says, "I not American, I Vietnamese."

The new arrival walks further, and the next person he sees he stops, shakes his hand and says, "Thank you for the wonderful America!"

That person puts up his hand and says, "I am from the Middle East, I am not American!"

He finally sees a nice lady and asks, "Are you an American?"

She says, "No!"

Puzzled, he asks her, "Where are all the Americans?"

The lady checks her watch and says..."Probably at work."

sorry my friends - - the weathers good - the fish are biting, i'm outside more than i'm inside - - so my blog page isn't on the summer priority list.....

quickies - - the immigration bill simply pissed me off. congress has continued to prove itself totally useless - and the gop is just as bad as the dems.....compromise - they don't know the meaning of the word - - simply disgusting. prediction - we'll not see an immigration bill.

i really like the news today that Admiral Mike Mullen (currently CNO) has been nominated for the Joint Chief position when General Pace's term ends 30 Sept. Admiral Mullen is a super guy - one of those whose been there and done that. good choice! congrats to Adm Mullen.....

98 here today - - on 8 june! was 74 at 0730 this morning....amazing....

enjoy! i'll try and get back here again.......

friend of mine sent me this story. as i read it, i found my jaw just dropping open in amazement - -

I think this could be the case in any intregrated school in America!!

Black And White Of 'Ho' Culture

By KATHLEEN PARKER
May 19, 2007

CHARLESTON, S.C. - In a new twist in American race relations, a federal court has ruled that a white teacher in a predominantly African-American school was subjected to a racially hostile workplace.
The case concerned Elizabeth Kandrac, who was routinely verbally abused by black students at Brentwood Middle School in North Charleston. Their slurs make shock jock Don Imus look like a church deacon.
Nevertheless, despite frequent complaints, school officials did nothing to intervene on Kandrac's behalf, arguing that the racially charged profanity was simply part of the students' culture. If Kandrac couldn't handle cursing, school officials told her, she was in the wrong school.
Kandrac finally filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and subsequently brought a lawsuit against the Charleston County School District, the school's principal and an associate superintendent. Last fall, jurors found that the school was a racially hostile environment to teach in and that the school district retaliated against Kandrac for complaining about it.
The defendants sought a new trial, but U.S. District Judge David C. Norton recently affirmed the verdict. However, he did not support the jury's findings of $307,500 in damages for lost income and emotional distress. The judge said a new trial would have to determine damages, but the school district and Kandrac settled for $200,000.
While the dollars-and-cents issue may have been of paramount importance to school and district officials - and would have lent heft to the verdict - the more compelling issue for students, parents and society is the idea that a particular group of people can be allowed to behave in a grossly uncivil and threatening way by virtue of their racial "culture."
The key legal question was whether a school could be held responsible for students' behavior. In this case, the black children of Brentwood had been given a pass for their behavior because vulgar language was considered normal for their culture.
Defense attorney Alice Paylor told jurors that the kids heard this same language at home and there was "no magic pill" to make them behave.
Paylor is probably right about that, though a magic paddle might have worked wonders.
Let's be clear: What these children called this teacher is beyond reprehensible and could be only be construed as hostile and threatening.
Here's a sample: white b----, white m----- f-----, white c---, white a------, white ho.
Other white teachers and students corroborated Kandrac's account, including a male war veteran who testified he would rather return to Vietnam than to Brentwood. Kandrac's attorney, Larry Kobrovsky, argued that the repeated use of "white" made these slurs racist in nature. But school officials insisted that because black students were equally abusive to other blacks, the language wasn't inherently racist.
Here's what we know without question: If majority white students had used similar language toward black students and teachers, the case would have been plastered on the front page of The New York Times until heads rolled.
Though Kandrac lost her job, the real losers are the children deprived of an education by the actions of a tyrannical few. And the worst racists are those teachers and administrators who denied these empowered brats the expectation of civilized behavior.
May the rest of America now be emboldened to act decisively in the interest of students who want to learn.

Kathleen Parker's column is distributed by Washington Post Writers Group.

finally had to break down and turn on the a/c last night - - while the temp wasn't overly bad, the humidity was just getting so bad we couldn't stand it. so we closed up all the windows & curtains and turned on the power sucker....knew it was raining before i got out of bed this morning - - barometric changes like when it rains, set my headaches off - - and i woke up with just enough of a headache that i knew it was wet outside..

not that i'm complaining - - Lord knows we need the rain - - corn don't grow without water and it's been soooo dry around here a lot of that corn may not survive..we'll see how it goes...hope this is a nice steady rain that lasts all day - - good growin type of rain! :)

maryland is NOT a fresh water fishing friendly state. simple point of fact. with the exception of one lake that i know of you cannot use boat motors on the majority of the lakes here - - - only battery powered, electric (trolling) motors. and that lake i know of where motors are permitted is way up in the MD panhandle (named Big Lake) a few hours ride from here.

to make matters worse, there are some lakes in this state that won't allow you to use your own boat if your boat has been in the waters of some other lakes or rivers. something to do with bacteria or something that could be transferred from river to lake or lake to lake or something like that.....in my simple mind, it's just a way to force fishermen to pay to use your rental boats rather than my own boat...but i'm not a biologist or environmentalist.

there is a small lake close by where i like to go - - only electric trolling motors allowed of course. but it's fun and there are some nice fish in the lake. next time i go down, i'll take my camera along and post a couple of pictures.

all that to say this - - i've come to enjoy travelling with the boat and fishing in other states. we've been to new york - cooperstown - and fished in between visiting the baseball hall of fam. been to ohio twice now to fish. virginia has a real nice lake few hours away that's fun to visit and fish.

i'm even thinking of pulling the boat down to texas. we're going down for the last two weeks of july to see the grandbabies - - might be fun to fish in texas! we'll see how the gas prices do tween now and then - - will probably be a last minute decision.

a nice thing that i have to hand to most states is that i can buy fishing licenses online well ahead of time for the times that i'll be in that state to fish. it's pretty neat. most times i can buy the license and print it from my easy chair! the states have made that part nice and easy.

i added a few blogs that i enjoy visiting to my list - - i'm a hardcore surfer - - i enjoy bouncing around the net - - i visit lots of sites and enjoy reading all the comments and visiting the sites of the folks leaving the comments! there's a lot of smart people out there and i enjoy reading what they have to say....so for those of you who track visitors to your page, if i seem to be there a lot, it's probably because you have a link to someone else's page that i like to read...so rather than having a thousand bookmarked blogs, i just bounce along from your pages... :) :)

here we go - - and people wonder why good teachers are so hard to find.....
