By Mike Nelson | PC News | Oct 20, 2011 1:28 PM | Comment

Earlier today Steam posted the System Requirements to run the PC version of Batman: Arkham City when it launches next month. While we don't get a "Minimum" or a "Recommended" setting, we do have a very basic idea on what's going to be needed to run the game. Read More »

DICE: Commo Rose in Day One Battlefield 3 Patch

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Oct 20, 2011 12:14 PM | Comment

Communicating with your squad was a chore in the Battlefield 3 beta, what with no VOIP and the Commo Rose conspicuously absent. And while VOIP will not be in the game at launch (party chat will still go through Battlelog), DICE has confirmed that the Commo Rose will make its return to the franchise in a day-one Battlefield 3 patch. BioWare recently opened up Star Wars: The Old Republic's early Origin Worlds levels to journalists, giving us the most lengthy, personal experience we've had with SWTOR to date. And while Electronic Arts is keeping an NDA lid on a number of features we'd love to tell you about, the publisher is allowing us to share a great deal. Click on through to learn how GameSpy's Mike Nelson and Mike Sharkey fared in their online adventures in a galaxy far, far away. Read More »

Massivity #4: So What If Star Wars: The Old Republic is a World of Warcraft Clone?

By Leif Johnson | PC Previews | Oct 20, 2011 6:39 AM | Comment

Let's get this out of our systems right now. For all of its focus on a well-written story, its player ships, and a fortune's worth of excellent voice acting, BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic still feels very much like that hulking leviathan created by the boys at Blizzard, especially in its earlier expansions. It's true. Indeed, if you're looking for an MMO that challenges conventions of how you level, how you fight, and even how you interact with other players, you'll be better off looking elsewhere (maybe even at Guild Wars 2). Rather than bash it for unoriginality, however, I'm here to argue that that's not such a bad thing. Read More »

Four Features that Could Make Star Wars: The Old Republic Strong with the Force

By Leif Johnson | PC Previews | Oct 20, 2011 5:51 AM | Comment

The folks at BioWare did something a little crazy recently -- they allowed us to preview the first few levels of the Republic side of Star Wars: The Old Republic at our own leisure (and just in time to steal some buzz from BlizzCon, too). It also gave us the chance to see if four of SWTOR's most hyped aspects really made the game as unique as we've been hearing -- specifically its story, extensive voice acting, science fiction setting, and unique use of companions. They're unique, all right, but are they unique enough? Read More »

Pay Day: The Heist PC Release Date Announced

By Bennett Ring | PC News | Oct 19, 2011 6:23 PM | Comment

Being a PC gamer isn't always fun. Sure, we get crisp 1080p visuals running at framerates that make a Bullet train feel slow, but we also have to wait longer than our lucky console brothers to get our mitts on many of the latest games. Take Sony's Pay Day: The Heist for example; it's been out on the PS3 for a couple of days already, yet PC gamers are still waiting to get our bank robbery on. Thankfully the wait for the PC version isn't approaching Arkham City levels; turns out PC gamers will have access to the game tomorrow, the 20th of October! Read More »

ASUS VG278H & NVIDIA 3D Vision 2 Review

By Mike Nelson | PC Reviews | Oct 19, 2011 11:00 AM | Comment

I'll be honest with you: I don't like 3D technology. Call me an old fogey but I still think the tech is a gimmick, especially for films. I can however, get behind the 3D gaming experience if the design aesthetic warrants it. This leaves the responsibility to companies like NVIDIA to prove that it's a worthwhile tech for the consumer to invest in. If they can manage that, perhaps the games and players will follow suit. EA's Peter Moore Responds to "Origin Sucks!"

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Oct 19, 2011 8:19 AM | Comment

A heckler's cry of "Origin sucks!" greeted Electronic Arts' Peter Moore as he began his presentation at the EB Games Expo in Australia over the weekend -- a comment Moore easily could have ignored, but instead decided to address head on. Read More »

Review: MSI Gamer Power GT 780 DXR Laptop

By Eric Neigher | PC Reviews | Oct 19, 2011 6:15 AM | Comment

Gamers and laptops have always had a love-hate relationship. On the one hand, being able to take our hobby with us on the road makes traveling so much more enjoyable, on the other hand, spending tons of money on a portable system when we could use that to power up our home PCs can seem redundant or outright unnecessary. Taiwanese hardware manufacturer MSI has tried to solve that dichotomy for us by shipping a series of laptops that are as powerful as home PCs -- for not that much more money. In theory, this will be a best-of-both-worlds situation: we get portability, power, and price point (I couldn't think of any more "p" words, sorry). But while MSI, admirably, does get most of the way there, the GT 780 DXR has a few foibles that prevent it from being the perfect middle ground. Read More »
