In high school, you go to house parties. In college, it's date parties. Then, when you reach a certain age, the coolest place to be is at a wedding reception. It's a magical time where you dress to the nines, get a little too drunk and bust a move -- or, in the case of New Girl, chicken dance to the slow songs.

This week, the guys were invited to a wedding through a mutual friend, and Nick decided to take Jess as his date. This was a great opportunity for Nick and Jess to lay down some more romantic groundwork that will surely become a recurring trend as the show goes on. If the chemistry wasn't palpable enough in the pilot, all the "Jeck" shippers ("Niss" shippers?) out there will be pleased to see some steady progress being made this week. Of course, it was only a matter of time before Zooey Deschanel became a love interest for one of the three roommates, but I'm not complaining.

We also got a little more insight into the twisted relationship Nick has with his saucy ex-girlfriend Caroline (Mary Elizabeth Ellis). Using Jess as jealousy bait, Nick attempted to prove to Caroline that he was completely over her. Unfortunately, with a little alcohol, even the most impenetrable of plans can go horribly awry, and it was nice to see Nick break out of his "straight man" role and get a little more on-the-level with Jess and Schmidt. Jake M. Johnson definitely brought out his comedic chops this week, and he proved that he can hold his own with the laughs, albeit with the aid of one particularly humorous photo booth.

And remember when Winston was not awesome in Episode 2? Well, no worries. He totally redeemed himself in this episode, and all it took were a few inappropriate dance moves to make him the funniest part of the entire episode. As an usher at the wedding, it was a stroke of genius to pin him against a kid who took his own ushering duties just as seriously as Winston. Almost nothing beats a grown-ass man competing with a child. Nothing. And I think Winston has already proven himself as a satisfactory replacement for Coach.

Schmidt also brought his A-game this week, pretending to be a recovering alcoholic to impress a beautiful woman (Katie Cassidy) while also avoiding his longtime "frenemy" Gretchen (Natasha Lyonne), with whom he has slept with at every previous wedding. If someone has yet to make a "Schmidt Happens" internet meme, I suggest that this be done immediately. Max Greenfield is full of win in the most horrendous way possible.

Overall, New Girl just keeps getting better and better with each passing episode. Granted, there have only been three episodes so far, but it's already a frontrunner for one of the funniest shows to come out this fall. And luckily, it's already gotten a full season order, so we should have plenty of time to get comfortable and enjoy the shenanigans. Hopefully, New Girl continues to deliver.
