Okay, folks. Here it is. I hope you like it.
No more blogging here on wordpress.com, but I hope you enjoy the new site and follow my ridiculousness over there.
(p.s. you folks know how the Gabbo Simpsons episode ends, right?)

Happy Belated Square Root Day
Just a quick note: a number of people e-mailed me yesterday to wish me a happy square root day. Sadly, my math geek diffusion index dropped a couple points, as I had never heard of the holiday before. What’s worse is that the next square root day is April 4, 2016. I hope I don’t lose my post-it note reminder before then!
(By the way, pi day is next Saturday).

The Opposite Of Ebullient
Hi folks. Here’s a pair of puzzles from Joseph Leeming’s 1946 collection of puzzles, “Fun with Puzzles.” Happy Scheming.
Puzzle 1 – How Long is the Fold?
A standard piece of paper measuring 8.5 x 11 inches is folded as shown below. Can you figure out the length of the fold (along the line from A to B)?

Puzzle 2 – Three Makes 12
Your task is to put the digits 1 – 7 in the seven circles below so that the three digits in every straight line add up to 12. (It may be easier to draw the figure below on a piece of paper). If you want to answer in the comments, list the order of the numbers from top-left to bottom-right.

(Bonus question)
LACHRYMOSE is to DYSPEPTIC as EBULLIENT is to … ?

… at least it’s not lupus (it’s never lupus).
A dreaded cold virus that simply won’t die is causing some extreme sloth in these parts. (Well, sloth enough to miss work but not sloth enough to stop my love affair with the Wii). All I can taste on my lips are the remnants of chicken noodle soup with a splash of childrens’ extra strength cough syrup – hmm, a flaming homer?
But instead of complaining about my sad state of affairs, hoping to draw sympathy from you fine folks, I thought I’d puzzle my way to health. What follows is a brief cryptographic-image puzzle. The following nine images represent common illnesses or symptoms that many individuals experience. See if you can identify them all. Happy scheming.

Anybody Want A Peanut?
Last week, the folks at neat-o-rama posted a Princess Bride movie trivia post. Around the same time, the 20th anniversary Princess Bride DVD cover began making appearances on a few well-known blogs. I figured I’d perpetuate the recent hype and do a Princess Bride themed puzzle set this week. Happy Scheming.
Puzzle 01
The following is a picture of the 20th Anniversary DVD cover for the Princess Bride – upside-down and right-side up. You’ll notice the text reads “Princess Bride” in either case. What is the name given to text that displays this characteristic?

Puzzle 02
Suppose there are 10 people in a room, one of which is the six-fingered man. Suppose also that during their introductions, each person shakes the hand of every other person in the room exactly once. How many fingers does each person touch in the course of making all those handshakes?
Puzzle 03
The Dread Pirate Roberts has a notable alternate identity – namely, Wesley. Can you identify these individuals’ alternate identities?

Puzzle 04
Can you uncover these two famous quoted lines from the Princess Bride?

BONUS
Fill in the correct name below:

(Second) Fiddler On The Roof
After a short cough-and-cold-induced delay, here is your weekly puzzle. The Golden Globes – who play second fiddle to another awards show – are the inspiration for this puzzle. See if you can identify the “first” fiddle from the following nine “second fiddles.”
Happy Scheming.

Step (1): Fill pint glass half-way with Guinness
Step (2): Fill shot glass with Baileys
Step (3): Put that glass into pint glass
Step (4): Chug
Step (5): Repeat

As far as I’m concerned, that’s a surefire recipe to guarantee your friends have a good sendoff.
Three of those will put hair on your chest, for sure. Though, I’m not quite sure what manner of beast you’d turn into after one of these:

Proud Owner Of A Skoda Auto
I hope everyone had a grand holiday (I’m still sorting through the NYE pictorial evidence, so I don’t have much to say about my own experience quite yet). For now, here are your 2009 inaugural puzzles. Happy Scheming!
