By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Sep 29, 2011 7:24 AM | Comment

Why Syndicate: The FPS Won't Suck

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Sep 29, 2011 5:40 AM | Comment

Like other fans of the Syndicate franchise out there, I'm folding my arms and shaking my head over EA and Starbreeze Studios' decision to bring the tactical strategy game back as a first-person shooter. I've got to admit it, though, after going hands-on with Syndicate at EA's Vegas Showcase on Tuesday, Starbreeze managed to crack through my icy layer of contempt and shift my opinion from, "This is not okay" to "This just might be okay." And in an effort to convince myself of the latter, I've decided to create a list that outlines why Syndicate: The FPS won't completely suck. Read More »

Battlefield 3 PC Beta Impressions

By Bennett Ring | PC Articles | Sep 28, 2011 9:52 PM | Comment

It's hard to believe that the Battlefield series has been around for over a decade, kicking off with the innovative, if somewhat inglorious, Codename Eagle way back in '99. While other shooters were content to let players run around maps the size of your backyard, Dice was already experimenting with battlefields that rivalled the size of a small state. Twelve long years later, and we've finally had a chance to really put Battlefield 3 through its paces, with the release of the Battlefield 3 Beta. Let's take a look to see how the series has evolved. The State of Eve Online

By Leif Johnson | PC Articles | Sep 28, 2011 5:46 PM | Comment

While most of the MMO community is currently focused on BioWare's recent announcement of a release date for Star Wars: The Old Republic, a very significant minority is looking toward a very different set of battles ravaging a galaxy on a server far, far away. These are the tribulations of the EVE Online community, who recently made the bold claim that their game was under siege from the very people who created it. Alexander Gianturco, the leader of EVE Online's Council of Stellar Management (a pretty name for the game's player-elected liaison group), has been trying to make sense of the mess since it erupted this summer. He took some time to lay out his suggestions for EVE Online's future for GameSpy. Read More »

Check out this Planescape Torment mod

By Paul Eure | PC News | Sep 28, 2011 4:24 PM | Comment

The pinnacle of CRPG story-telling has to be Planescape Torment. 1999 was last century though, and unfortunately the Infinity Engine hasn't aged as well as George Clooney this past decade. While the hand-drawn environments still impress, the low resolutions it's encumbered with make the game a bit of an eye-sore. Luckily for us and The Nameless One, the community has dragged the game into modern times, enabling widescreen support courtesy of this mod. Read More »
