OK You LSU Football / Jordan Jefferson Freaks looking up info on Lewis Unglesby. These are the posts you gotta read.

August 26, 2011

Yeah the buttcall is a classic but this post here is the macdaddy one involving Lewis. In this bar fight application Lewis is probably at his highest and best use as a criminal defense lawyer but I think Jefferson and his sidekick should be thrown off the team for complete stupidity.  Maybe now we know why it has taken Jefferson so long to mature as a college quarterback despite the physical talent cause the boy is a complete dumbass.

BERJAYA

Why Paige St John won’t have to worry about the Wall Street Journal taking her Pulitzer Prize for insurance reporting.

August 26, 2011

I now try to avoid telling people how many years I’ve run both my own accounting practice and helping my much larger private sector clients prosper in one of the most competitive industries in our economy so I don’t betray the fact I’m on the fast downhill slide to the big five-oh.  That said and in light of true participation in the market economy of this once great nation there are times I read something in a national finance publication and I wonder which ivory tower these people have been smoking crack in.  So along those lines through time I’ve blogged here on Slabbed the folks over at the Wall Street Journal have come up a time or two.

Sadly I must report I did say the WSJ Editorial Board were a band of “lit and hallucinating buffoons” but that was only because they were unfavorably comparing a solvent state-run insurer of last resort in Florida Citizens with an insolvent one in Louisiana Citizens. The stupidity was simply stunning folks but these Ivory Tower sellouts are the same bunch that gave us the 2008 market crash and 10+% unemployment with their self-serving no-regulation rhetoric so I frankly should have never expected much from ‘em.

And it is also true that late last year I skewered a couple of the WSJ beat reporters for passing off PR fluff from Allstate as a serious news story but again this group probably also buys into the concept of big business being able to impartially self investigate their own misdeeds but hey don’t take that from me as Sam Antar aka of “Crazy Eddie” infamy and one of the most famous fraudsters of all time discusses that issue in-depth on a sister new media website to Slabbed, the Business Insider. The bottom line is it is against that backdrop that I highlight another incredibly clueless Hurricane Irene/Insurer of Last Resort story by the WSJ dynamic duo of Erik Holm and Leslie Scism where their main source was some cat named “Critics“.  A search of our Slabbed files revealed one of the Insurance disInformation Institute’s Bob Hartwig’s aliases was indeed “Critics” so it is easy to identify what industry PR outfit fed Holm and his sidekick this “Hurricane Irene” story which rests on the following undisputed assertions from Mr Critics: Read more…

“There is still nothing more palpable in the Faulkner landscape than the arrogance of privilege.” A Tom Freeland Assault and Trespassing Update.

August 25, 2011

Patsy Brumfield of the Daily Journal lived up to her twitter moniker @realnewsqueen yesterday with her gavel to gavel coverage of yesterday’s misdemeanor trial of the century here in Mississippi. Her rolling account of Freeland’s 5 hour trial was both rough around the edges and thorough beyond all expectations.  Today she followed that grand performance with an edited story that confirmed my suspicions it was them pesky text messages that doomed Team Freeland. It is another must read.  Through time we’ve sent several 3 figure clicks out to other websites and today Patsy Brumfield joins an elite list of journalists so honored by our readership with her rolling account that I linked yesterday. I’ll add she is a smart journalist for making sure the readers of the Daily Journal got the news they were thirsty for exceeding all expectations in the process. Kudos to Patsy.

Unfortunately for Mr Freeland’s victim Susan White, her ordeal will continue with news of Team Freeland’s appeal to circuit court. Hopefully she’ll take solace in the fact the entire Slabbed Nation stands behind her in her the quest for justice and will remain there with her each step of the way on this very difficult journey through the historically less than transparent judiciary in North Mississippi.

Finally we’ve made a few new friends covering this story from the northern end of Mississippi that have proven themselves loyal readers of this little project.  This story has captured the imagination of the legal community in 2 states so it is only right we highlight a second source of coverage on the Freeland trial in the Oxford Crime Report.  Tim’s account of the trial is also very insightful and he reports the most damning text message that didn’t fit with Freeland’s account of the events back in March: Read more…

BREAKING: Citizens for a Better Kenner announces Judge Kovach tells Ben Zahn and his lawsuit to take a hike.

August 25, 2011

Hot off the press folks:

Ed Lancaster, vice president for Citizens for a Better Kenner, (CFABK)

Citizens For A Better Kenner, (CFABK) is pleased that Judge Kovach, after
hours of testimony denied the request for preliminary injunction filed by
Kenner City Councilman Ben Zahn. When it was filed, CFABK thought this
lawsuit was without merit and was political in nature and designed to stop
CFABK from continuing to question the role of the City of Kenner and the
Kenner Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (KCVB), as well as Councilman Zahn’s
role, as the City of Kenner’s representative on the Board of KCVB.

We consider this a victory for the 1st amendment, said attorneys Arita
Bohannan and Ron Wilson. Read more…

Please pardon my interjection. Juvenile Court isn’t cheap fodder for journalism. From the Busted Files (Updated)

August 24, 2011

Folks I shook the St Tammany tree and managed to confirm certain aspects of the story of 22nd JDC JudgeMary Devereux’s chambers leaking a confidential juvenile hearing transcript to Times Picayune reporter Claire Galofaro so I could not let the latest mention of this budding saga on the pages of the Times Picayune go unmentioned. This is a tough subject because from what I gather there is a gag order in force so the parties to the case can’t talk about it.  And a salient fact omitted from the first Times Picayune Op-Ed on the case  is this case, while serious in the alleged planning of a school shooting, is in fact a matter involving juveniles and confidentiality rules clearly apply here. It is good to see the Times Picayune acknowledge this in their unattributed report today.

I laugh when I hear the so-called pros wring their hands while opining about unwashed bloggers and the perceived deficiencies in our craft.  I mention this because the Times Picayune didn’t bother with words like alleged to qualify their reporting on the matter in St Tammany that is the topic of this post. No sir they published the names of the kids and flat-out stated they did the crime and alas this is something they share in common with Slabbed in our Grand Isle coverage.  Some folks would label this type of reporting slander but perhaps it means the gang calling the shots at the T-P grew some nuts after Leary and the girls shook them down for money last year after they hung Rich Rainey out to dry on his Trout Point reporting.  Or maybe it means they are mad because the lawyer for one of the kids, Jack ‘Bobby” Truitt caught Judge Devereux passing confidential hearing transcripts to the T-P beat reporter out of the back chamber door.

I had no clue who was representing whom in this case before today because I just don’t blog much on St Tammany.  So I googled Truitt up and sure enough he appeared on 2 websites that I read, Slabbed and TulaneLink. He appears to have qualities the Times Picayune editors are now trying to exhibit such as having some sack as Truitt helped take out crooked Judge Alan Green of Operation Wrinked Robe Infamy.

I’d like to see the law that allows a Judge to leak confidential juvie transcripts from her chambers.  I think this one will be a fun topic to watch on many levels.
