Valve adds out-of-game trading in beta[ 1 Comment ] 19:10 PST | Shadowex3 | Print NewsIn the new beta of the trading system all ingame items and all "giftable" games, as well as items from participating non-Valve games, are currently tradeable. You can opt-in to the Beta by going to Steam's settings and enabling it there, allowing you to trade with anyone else on your friend's list or from a group chat who has opted in. As with most betas feedback is invited on the current state of things.
Weapons now have separate penalties for jumping and landing, allowing better weapon control after landing (and greatly reduced penalties for falling off small ledges). This also allows for in-air shots with proper timing.
Dynamic crosshair now uses actual weapon accuracy, rather than a separate simulation.
Glock and FAMAS each now use same accuracy for all burst shot bullets.
Increased run speed for Galil and FAMAS.
Weapon spread patterns are no longer square.
HUD elements for health, armor, timer, and money now have a transparent background for better visibility.
Made a convar for lag compensation position change tolerance.
Made lag comp position checks use Length2dSqr (ignoring z).
Fixed an exploit where users could disable flashbang audio effects using alias commands.
Fixed burst fire prediction of FAMAS.
Fixed weapon accuracy related prediction errors that could cause performance problems.
Hopefully a good few of these, particularly the bugfixes and improved hud visibility, make it to mainstream in short order.

The Stanley Parable Mod Released![ Comment ] 3:28 PST | eulogy | Print News | Category: Half-Life 2The Stanley Parable mod for the Source Engine has been released. What exactly is The Stanley Parable mod? Well, the author thinks the experience will be better if you don't know before you try it. Below is a trailer that doesn't really describe much but makes it all the more interesting.
You can download the mod from Moddb here if that trailer sparked any interest at all. If it didn't, you're probably not a gamer so what the heck are you doing on Planet Half-Life?
Scared to play Versus? Think there is too much strategy? Dont want to embarrass yourself? Give Taannkk!! a try. We simplify everything. What does everyone spawn as? Tanks. What is trying to kill you? Tanks. Why should you keep running? Tanks. Youre welcome.
Our deepest sympathies for all those insane or brave enough to play this on expert.
Outside of tournament news a group of content artists have gotten together to create a full sized faux-update full of custom content for medieval mode. They've decided to call it, naturally, the Medieval Update.
In a similar move of epic creativity Tablecloth and Chaoughkimyero
have created a real life Cow Mangler 5000, the awesomeness of which may or may not be tempered by the fact one of them has also gone to the trouble of acquiring a Towering Pillar of Hat as well.

Dead Air Beta released for Left 4 Dead 2[ Comment ] 8:50 PST | Shadowex3 | Print News | Category: Left 4 Dead 2As promised Valve has released the Dead Air port today, right in the 22nd-25th window predicted by traditional Valve Time. A few changes have been made such as adding melee weapons and some unknown but hinted at tweaks to the 4th and 5th maps and Finale.
The Cow Mangler 5000 is a Rocket Launcher replacement whose primary firing mode behaves like a standard rocket launcher except for having an infinitely refillable supply of ammunition (recharged via the reload system). The secondary attack will consume a full charge, slow the soldier down to 25% of normal speed from his usual 80%, and after 3 seconds release a devastating blast that will deal up to 121 damage (81 base damage), mini-crit players and cause a short afterburn, and shutdown the Engineer's buildings temporarily. As a tradeoff it will normally do half damage to buildings.
The second weapon, the Righteous Bison, takes the place of the Shotgun and has a similar ammunition system but functions entirely different from the weapon it replaces. The Bison instead fires an unreflectable projectile which is capable of piercing enemy players and buildings, though like it's counterpart it will deal half damage to buildings.
The donation deadline is tomorrow morning at 04:00 EST , and the match will take place at 16:00 EST, that's 4AM and 4PM for civilians. They're looking to raise $1000 total, lets see how far the Child's Play tradition of exceeding donation goals takes this drive.
Bleed Out Versus Now you have a good excuse for rushing through Versus.
There is no permanent Survivor health, it is all temporary and it is ticking down. Even if you dont normally play Versus, this is a great mutation to try. The action is frantic and fast as team wipes are always just a few seconds away.
