i never much was into gossip.

About all I got from the excerpts I read was that Heilemann-Halperin really enjoyed dishing on women more than they did men.

Yup. My impression as well. They seem to be bullies.

Salacious Gossip - wasn't that the little 'pet'/'buddy' of Jabba the Hutt? ;)

Elspeth -- I thought it was the name of the weird lizards he ate? Wouldn't that be apropos??? SP

Don't encourage her, SP. She'll punish you....

Eh, Reid's a bit of a disaster anyway and he's going to have a rough time getting reelected. This is pretty much the perfect opportunity for some other members of the party to ask him to step aside at the end of this term for for the good of the party. Heck, maybe we'd end up with someone with a bit more backbone.

Ah! The joy of "teh Google" - "Salacious B. Crumb" the favorite (?) jester of Jabba the Hutt... I was close... ;)

"Eh, Reid's a bit of a disaster anyway and he's going to have a rough time getting reelected."

In 2004, the last time Reid was running for re-election, I was living in Los Angeles and doing some long-distance telephone canvasing for both Kerry and for the Nevada Democrats (originally, they had set up bus trips for volunteers to travel from LA to Las Vegas on weekends, but at our suggestion/request, the Nevada people gave us access to their data base across the internet).

The people I talked to over those six weeks or so were about 50-50 between Kerry and Bush, but they were probably better than 75% backers of Harry Reid. Any number of times I was told in the same phone call "I'd never vote for John Kerry...Of course I'm voting for Harry."

If Harry Reid is going to have a rough time getting reelected, it is - as Obama said the other day - because Reid "is spending a lot of his political capital in the middle of an election year to provide health care to every American."

Had he not taken the Majority Leader position and stayed relatively anonymous nationally, Reid probably gets reelected in a walk. Because he didn't, because he is "spending a lot of his political capital" as Leader, he deserves our thanks.

Let Reid. He's not worth protecting. IF he hadn't taken the majority position, he'd have been a shitty Senator. He'd have also gone relatively unnoticed.

That he decided to become one of the worst Senate leaders in history isn't something IM going to thank him for. It's just another bit of evidence as to how shitty a politician he really has been.

So how would the Democratic caucus throwing Reid overboard show the backbone some of you think the leader himself lacks? It would be caving to Michael Steele and John Cornyn.
