I also got the shelves up in Mrs. F's pantry. I used a Rubbermaid system of shelf standards and brackets and had 'em up in about an hour after cutting the shelves to size on the table saw.
And an hour after I was done it looked like this:
I also began work building the bar/entertainment center. I wanted to make the top unique so I poked around in the hardwood section at Home Depot (this takes me hours because I have to have just the right color and grain and I pick through every piece) and found some nice poplar and red oak. I used the red oak in the middle band interspersed with white poplar, the yellow variety on the outsides.
Another product recommendation. If you're gonna try your hand at cabinet making, invest in a biscuit joiner. It's a lot easier than using dowels to join planks and makes a better job than just butting them together and gluing. Also clamps ... lotsa clamps.
Lotta sandpaper too.
