I was very pleasantly surprised when I was shown this compilation. Perhaps not having previously been a Pixies fan to start with I was able to enjoy this cd more than most. When I heard "Where is my mind" at the end of one of the most enjoyable movies I've ever seen (Fight Club) I was moonstruck by the Pixies. Having heard Thom Yorke, Kurt Cobain and many other prominent musicians confess their admiration for the Pixies I knew I'd admire them as well. The best performances here, in my opinion, are Weezer, Far, and most of all Nada Surf. However I was literally impressed by ALL the other tracks. I think the only tracks I find myself skipping are 13 and 14. If you're a fan of the Pixies and not biased against tributes then you'll love this cd. I'm not always the biggest tribute enthusiast but I definitely think this one is in good taste and it's hands down my favorite tribute album.

I had just graduated high school when this came out and am thankful for where I was at the time (musically) for I maybe would never have discovered what I consider and excellent tribute to what would later become one of my most favorite bands of all time. Had I discovered it at some different phase in my musical life, I might not have fallen for each unique but loyal rendition of The Pixies' bombastic, cacophonous, impassioned, eccentric sound.

More than 12 years later, I still adore this album.

Weezer vs the Pixies

some of the bands on this album actually were pretty good. But I have to agree that the pixies are definately way better and more important and more relevant than weezer. Pixies never put out a bad album and they're never afraid to experiment. Weezer never goes beyond the same three chords. Sucking up to weezer is having your head up rolling stones ass more than the pixies. Rolling Stone never paid attention to the pixies in their heyday.

Great Tribute Of a Great Band by Great Bands

This tribute is awesome! I hadn't even heard of the Pixies until my friend gave me this CD. Now I'm a huge fan. This tribute has an awesome roster, too. Local H rocks, but there cover didn't really impress me. i loved TPR's cover of gouge away. Weezer, one of my favorite bands, does a way better version of Velouria. The Get Up Kids ALec Eiffel cover is totally awesome. This album is a huge example of how the Pixies had such a profound effect on music today. Hard Rock, Pop, Emo, Alt/Rock, Ska,... It's all here. If you buy it for the Weezer song, great, but I promise, you'll love it for everything else.

pixies tribute

The Pixies are awsome, and its great to see bands that I love are on this album here is my review
Allison, by Eve 6: I liked the song before, and I think that Eve 6 did a good job covering it.
Alec Eiffel, by The Get-Up Kids: Everything is good about this, but the only complaint I have is that it sounds just like the original, they should have changed it up a bit.
Velouria, by Weezer: My favorite band doing my favorite Pixies song, how much more can you ask for. They did an awsome job covering it, they changed it up, but it still has the same power as the original, if not more power.
Monkey Gone to Heaven by Far: I like Far and I like Monkey Gone to Heaven, they did a good job, but its really weird, which I guess gives it character, and better than doing it just like the pixies.
Trompe Le Monde by Braid: This is a good song. But I wish they would have changed it up more, it sounds just like the pixies version.
Wave of Mutilation by Superdrag: I like it ok. Not as good as the original. I think what would have made the song better if Superdrag would have used better destortion, it doesn't sound full enough.
Manta Ray by Teen Heroes: I really enjoy this song, I haven't heard the original to compare, but I like the song. Its a fun song to listen to.
Tame by Local H: I think Local H did a good job of covering it. I like it.
Gigantic by Reel Big Fish: This pisses me off. I think Reel Big Fish did a horrible job of covering it. The original is soooooooo much better, in my opinion Reel Big Fish ruined the song.
The Holiday Song by Siren 6: Its ok, I don't really like it, but its not "bad".
Where is My Mind? by Nada Surf: Ehhh I don't like this much either. The original is a lot better I think.
Gouge Away by Promise Ring: I like this song, they did a good job of covering it.
Here Comes Your Man by Samiam: Also did a good job of covering a pixies song. I like it about the same as the original and I really like the original.
La, La, Love You by Weston: I really enjoy this song, it puts me in a good mood by listening to it. I can't compare it to it orginal because I haven't heard the oringal.
Caribou by Sense Feild: I like this song, they did a good job of covering it, and it is a good song to end with.

makes you appreciate the pixies even more...

i got this last month after an australia-wide hunt (had to import it in the end) and i have to say it makes for a very entertaining listen. The Pixies are by far my favourite band, and most of the versions here are great tributes to the band, with the exception of Far's "Monkey Gone To Heaven' which they slaughter. I know a lot of people bought this for the Weezer cover of 'Velouria' and yeh they do a good job of it, it sounds like something off Pinkerton thankfully, not off the average Green album, but it still just seems to lack something that the pixies version had....
Love the end of Manta Ray by Teen Heroes where they throw in a medley of sorts included bits of Dig For Fire, Caribou, Where Is My Mind and the old fav Tony's Theme (" TO-NY TO-NY TO-NY ")
