Friday afternoon

sitting here listening to Rush.....i seldom get this opportunity, but today i've been able to listen to the whole show. good stuff - as always.

he makes a very good point about why are we on the defensive in the upcoming political races? we (republicans) should be on the offensive - - we are in the majority, we should act like it. no reason for us to have to defend ourselves everytime some liberal says something. we should press on - ignore the liberal - especially the press, they are really clueless sometimes - - and i include in that foxnews also. like Rush, I'm tired of hearing the constant stream of negativity that the media thrives on. none of it is relevant and no one really wants to hear it.

we should be shooting back with the good things that are happening - - the economy, the creation of a highway system in Iraq, the restoration of the sewage and electric plants that happens every day over there, the schools that are re-opening and teaching Iraqi children, the military folks that are working their asses off to make some of these things happen. we aren't we hearing these things? why do we hear nothing but liberal negativity and then days worth of re-hashed analysis of those negative ideas?

frankly, i don't care what clinton said to chris wallace, or what matthews thinks about it, or what george allen called anyone and why he did it. the governor's race in florida is nothing but a name calling, dirt-digging contest to see who can dig up the worst thing about their opponent. it's disgusting. people in florida are supposed to vote for the one who dug up the worst about their opponent!?

if you have an election happening in your home state, please tell me one issue that's being discussed? i don't want to hear about how he's against the war, or said the 'j' word when he was 6, or ate turkey for dinner yesterday..... what do you know about the issues? where does your candidate stand on your state's budget process? your state's highway/transportation policies? your state's educational system? does he/she have ideas about how to change these things to the betterment of the people of the state?

we need to tell our candidates that we don't want to hear negative things about the other candidates. we want to hear about the issues, and his/her plans to deal with those issues - in detail - in language we understand.....

end of rant......soapbox closed.......

Thursday afternoon

sad to hear about another school incident out in Colorado. especially the wacko that alledgedly is behind this one. one of the girls has died; the others were molested in some way....terrible.....and all by a guy who alledgedly lived out of his car...unfortunately the wacko was able to shoot himself, so we'll probably never know exactly what his problem was and why he had to take it out on these kids...

-----

since i'm ranting on weirdos today, here's another.....this guy's an inmate serving life for kidnapping, molesting and killing this little girl. so what's he do? he has her name tattoo'd on his FOREHEAD - - KATIE'S revenge - - is what it says across his forehead! says he's been placed in protective holding - - should place him on the chair (electric chair that is) or on the table and juice him up....sheesh....

then there's the T.O. story - - like who really cares.....i fail to see the news worthiness of this one, but......for those interested, here's a link...

Questions Remain About Terrell Owens

finally there's the 13 year old who got his little 3 year old sister drunk - so drunk she was found passed out! read that again, if you missed it - - 13 year old ---- 3 year old - - - - where's the parents? they should be in jail ---there is no suitable excuse for this one.....

Sunday afternoon

i'm in florida this week. get to spend a week at lovely hurlburt AFB in ft walton beach. bonus is i get to see my daughter and her hubby! he was in the AF - but just got out. they're trying to figure what they want to do now...

anyway - - someone want to tell me when/why/how rudolph guilliani became "the leading republican presidential candidate"!!? that's what the papers down here in the south are calling him. i sure hope that doesn't turn out to the case - - i may have to re-evaluate my party affliation. turn independent or something.... i would not be able to support him for president.... just don't think he's qualified or would fit the position... he did a wonderful job in NYC and was terrific during the 9/11 tragedy - - but that simply doesn't make him qualified to be a president in my book....

Wednesday evening

some really good discussion on Little MissChatterbox's site last few days. don't know that any minds were changed or anything, but some good points made on either side... it's tooo bad though that folks tend to get into name calling and other derogatives rather than intelligent discussion. it's natural that we all think we're right in what we believe - - but we should be open to discussion without resorting to name calling or other personal degradations..

i see i've had over 1,000 visitors now. that's cool....

i want to share with you a letter to the editor that was in the Washhington Post just yesterday. it really scares me - - but i think this will be the prevalent line of thought as we move towards the next election cycle... and i don't think it is a democratic or republican or independent or conservative or liberal idea but this isn't the first time i've heard this expressed - - and it's scary....

quote
I am tired of hearing President Bush speak as if there are terrorists behind every tree and post ready to to jump out and kill us. He constantly reminds us that we live in fearful times, that we should be afraid.

What ever happened to remembering how loyal and courageous Americans are? Yes, Sept. 11 happened, but look how we handled it. We faced it and we recovered. We don't need a president who is constantly trying to make us fearful. We need someone who can stir in us patriotism and pride.

We are not a nation of people who are afraid all the time. We are a people who can face the future with out eyes open and know that we can take care of ourselves.
unquote

there's a name - but i won't include it here. it's scary to think that there are people who are becoming complacent again.

Friday night

i simply cannot ignore this - - if you haven't seen this - please watch it all and listen to what he's saying.. i didn't think anyone in California (let alone San Francisco was allowed to think like this)...

Bravo! Bravo!

i'm kind of disappointed in the election screw ups that happened -- especially here in Maryland. there's simply no excuse. those involved should be dismissed - straight up. fired. elections are a one time event. not daily, not weekly, not even monthly. there's simply no reasonable excuse for not have ballots available in Montgomery county polling places; or data cards in Calvert county or any of the other problems I've been reading about. the board of elections folks in those areas where these screw ups occured should now be jobless. and no recommendations or letters of reference.

there are only like a dozen restaurants here in Calvert county - ok maybe two dozen, but the fast food places shouldn't count - that's not real food. anyway, they opened a Mexican restaurant not far from us this past week. place has been literally packed every single day/night since they opened the doors. went bye tonite and folks were standing outside in the drizzling rain waiting for a table. people in this county would love for more restaurants to be available. there is supposedly an outback steakhouse about to open down in prince frederick (about 12-15 miles from our home)..there is no steakhouse in the county. we figure it will be packed for months. problem is in getting county licenses to have such businesses. they believe in something called "controlled growth" here - - which means that only the builders and the county commissioners decide what can go where and who can have such businesses and how big those businesses can be for that matter. it's a good ole boy county and they don't even attempt to hide it - they're proud of it - they platform their re-elections on it - and win!!

and to close tonite - - archaeologists discovered remains this week of a 10,000 year old LIBERAL!!

BERJAYAunfortunately, they haven't changed!

Tuesday night

leaving in the morning for a quickie trip to san diego. fly out there tomorrow, meeting on thursday, fly home friday morning.....fortunately, southwest has non-stop flights from bwi to san diego daily....makes it a bit easier.....

lots and lots of 9/11 remembrances on the web, radio, tv and just in communities around the country. nice to see that people actually do remember what happened on that day - - unfortunately, we're now back to politics and 9/11 will once again fade as the "peace-nik" democrats and even some spineless republicans decry the war and antyhing that we may be trying to accomplish in this war against terrorism. it's disgusting - these cretins actually came onto our land and wantonly killed our people and our rage seems to have limits.....sorry, mine doesn't.....there would be a few parking lots in the middle east if i had the helm...

pearl harbor day suffers the same fate - - when i was a young 'un pearl harbor day was treated very similar to the way 9/11 was yesterday. all kinds or remembrances and memorials and even veteran parades and speeches - - flags everywhere - - dec 7 was remembered. nowadays, with the number of remaining wwII vets declining, dec 7 does not receive the same treatment it used to....shame too....

Thursday evening

watching the local news tonight - - there was a immigration rally downtown DC today. someone had a sign that said "human beings are not illegal" ----- anyone want to try and explain that one to me?

watched katie couric's news cast tonight. first time i've been able to tune in and watch. no different than any of the others - - the new set looks just like the one abc used to have peter jennings in. lots of references to the cbs website so that you can get the complete story. dunno - - jury's out.

i get quite a charge out of the dems here lately with their anti-bush, anti-war crap. this afternoon they had a person on the news proclaiming that the bush administration has done absolutely nothing to increase safety in this country and that the war is a major mistake that we should cut n run from like right now - so we can get to where the real problems are - afghanistan! such a crock! how can these idiots look right into the camera and say such things? what planet are they living on? someplace where the reality is different...

please check out my blogger friend little miss chatterbox's page. she's got some really well thought out and well stated information. no need to repeat what she's already said so well. go check it out - leave her a note - tell her you agree with the president's speeches the last few days.

Tuesday evening

back - wonderful week-end (sort of) - - suppose i have to explain that...we left here friday morning - ernesto hit friday afternoon and saturday....

up in new york at coooperstown, it rained pretty much all day saturday and the wind was terrible - - but the baseball hall of fame was great! if you're any kind of baseball fan at all, ya need to go up there and check it out. cool place....

sunday up there was dry anyway - - got to run the boat up and down the susquehanna river and fish - - caught a bunch of nice sized sunfish and bluegill - plus got the wife out on the boat for the first time....think she even enjoyed the day...

came home monday - - seems that the electricity was off for some 8 hours on friday afternoon/evening....then on and off again all day saturday....managed to pop breakers on the box for the kitchen and the gfi outlets...consequently the refrigerstors were off for 3 days....big puddle in the kitchen from the ice tray that all melted....all the meat and stuff were thawed and yucky....

so we just took trash bags and emptied both frigs into them.....we'll go to the grocery and start over again....

fortunately i was able to reset the breakers and the gfi outlets and get the power going again with little trouble. other than the groceries it fried the hard drive on my master desktop computer upstairs....minor irritants but not enough to get me to bring the home insurance folks in on it....would barely beat the deductible so not worth my time....

and to boot - it's rained all day today - - and i couldn't get into the office where i work becuase of a couple of accidents that tied up the highways around here...and some down trees that messed up the highway near where i work...so i just worked from home today.....
