Monday Mod: Half-Life 2 – Precursor Mod

Prepare for step into the shoes of a resistance member before the time of Freeman, the Combine has tightened their grip and the mysterious G-man is ever hovering about plotting nefarious and delusional things. A serious contender for “Best Half-Life 2 Mod of 2011″, Precursor is one highly polished modification that forces my insistence that you re-install the game. Go on, do it. We’re all waiting.

City 17 is back, and the infamous metallic tower. This mod features loads of single-player gameplay, a couple of tricky puzzles and even a scenic train ride. It also includes some truly amazing new voice acting by Anneli Heed and Christopher Papastefanou. Be sure to visit the Precursor Site and let them know what a truly awesome job they’ve done. It’s good to be playing some quality Half-Life 2 again.

Worlds of Minecraft – Part #3

The Minecraft community is certainly one of the most creative and passionate out there as seen in our previous Worlds of Minecraft FileBlog. Though time has passed, beautiful and blocky worlds keep being made. Grab your backpack and mining pick explorer, the third part of our series awaits.

Castle Lividus by KCRat: If you desire a medieval themed house to rest during the night, this world will give you that and an entirely town along with it. This village features a cathedral to cleanse your dastardly deeds of killing innocent pigs, a harbor with two ships incase your town is over-run by Creepers.

Flying Saucer World by ML32: If you ever wondered what it would be abducted by an alien spaceship built as a functional compass with three tractor beam waterfalls, eight stations of lava/TNT cannons/personal mining rig, a 7-clock engine with 64 repeaters and more – you are about to find out.

Spleefing Arena World by SigmaSolid: Spleefing is the sport where players must mine blocks under other players and make them fall to the ground. The best Spleefers or people who download this, gather at the Spleefing arena and compete against the best of the best (or others who downloaded it as well).

Junon World by SigmaSolid: If you’re a fan of Final Fantasy VII and Minecraft, this is perfect home. Based off the town Junon from FFVII, the cannon is fully operational – reaching up to 450 meters. It requires 40 TNT to reach maximum range and can be fired within the gun or from the remote firing platform.

Floating Castle by kdotjack9: A fantastic world with an unfortunate case of no name syndrome. Ferret and I brainstormed for hours as to what to call it and after much debate, decided on Floating Castle. The title says it all, you have a full function castle with plenty of waterfalls.

Portal 2 Maps: The First Slice

We’re living in dark times, my friend. With Portal 2 being released two weeks ago, the world is succumbing to what we call Portal Withdrawl. Repeating jokes about Cave Johnson and his combustible lemons, or debating Team Wheatley vs. GLaDOS are the warning signs. In hopes to cure myself and save the world, I found Portal 2 maps to sink your teeth into.

Synchronicity Single Player Map by Omnicoder: Using all the new features that Portal 2 has to offer, this chamber will take about 20 minutes to finish. It offers thought-out puzzles with multiple solutions, but more than that – it looks beautiful. Had I not played Portal 2, I would believe this was from the campaign.

Sequential: Part 1 Single Player Map by Nightgunner5: This chamber required the whole office to solve. One puzzle is purely based on the manipulation of cubes, so start thinking with cubes. I recommend this for the test subjects who prefer a hearty helping challenge with their science.

Gravity Trials Single Player Map by naitoookami: This map is the very definition of ‘short but sweet.’ Only consisting of two small puzzles, this test will have you playing with gravity plus momentum to succeed in the name of Cave Johnson and his damn lemons. I’m still suffering from withdraw.
