Transdisciplinary professor to travel to Malawi


Professor Barbara Hunt, an adjunct faculty member in the Woodbury University Natural Sciences department and the Institute of Transdisciplinary Studies, will be in Malawi, Africa this summer and next semester.  She will be a visiting professor at Domasi College in Zomba where she will teach general biology, human biology, and biochemistry. In addition to her undergraduate teaching assignment, she will be involved in teaching a graduate course in biology teaching methods and will be supervising new teachers, traveling across the country in the fall. More

Students take top USCGB competition honors


Woodbury University School of Architecture's Abdul "Aboudi" Kader Kabbani, Alexander William Towpasz, Chelsea Elizabeth Cordero, and Geovanny Chevez earned first place honors in the student category of the 5th Annual USGBC-LA Emergent Talent Design Competition 2011 and have now been awarded first place out of all competition entries -- beating out emerging professionals as well as students. Their project, The Pier, was unanimously selected by the jury as the winner for its simple, elegant solution that thoughtfully responded to the urban conditions of downtown Long Beach. The Long Beach Redevelopment Agency plans to build the project and will be working with the students to bring the projects into this next phase. Professor Linda Taalman was the faculty advisor on the project, which was presented by the group at 8th Annual AltBuild Expo 2011. More

Architecture student earns Gensler honor


Woodbury University fourth-year architecture student Isaac Appiah has been honored in the 2011 Gensler Diversity Scholarship program. This was a record-breaking year for applications, and Gensler recognized Appiah along with four additional national finalists from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Mississippi State University, Iowa State University, and Temple University for their exceptional design work. First place went to a student from Rhode Island School of Design and second place to a Yale University student. More

Student makes finals in 2010-11 Art Urbain contest


Woodbury University’s Rome Center for Architecture and Culture is pleased to announce that fourth-year architecture student Blaze Rzewnicki, with teammates Matt Graham and Kristen Massenburg from Pennsylvania State University, was premiated as a finalist in the 2010-11 Art Urbain urban design competition “Putting Forgotten Empty Spaces to Good Use” (Valoriser les espaces vides oubliés).  The team received attention from the judging board that selected thirty finalists from among 204 registered teams representing 24 countries.  To view the finalists, click here.  More

MBA students take 6th in international capsim challenge


Woodbury University MBA students Cindy Contreras and Abram Lawrence recently placed sixth in the International Capsim Spring Challenge 2011.  They score 932.6 points out of 1,000 possible and took sixth place out of a field of 905 teams worldwide. The competition is based on the capsim business simulation which is part of the MBA capstone course that all Woodbury University MBA students complete before graduating. More

New digital media degrees coming to Woodbury

Three new degrees in digital media are coming to Woodbury. Filmmaking begins Fall 2011.  Applications being accepted now. Video game art and design begins Fall 2011.  Applications being accepted now. Media technology begins in Fall 2012. Internship and career services programs also will be developed over the course of the five-year grant to support student success. More
