Times Picayune article

Monique Pilie demonstrating tree planting technique to volunteersHike for KaTREEna was featured in the November 12 edition of The Times Picayune. The article, by Karen Taylor Gist, provides  insight into the synergy between Hike for KaTREEna, neighborhood groups, volunteers and other non-profits, something that makes our tree plantings community events, as well as environmental and rebuilding events.

Handing over the reins

Summit of Mt WashingtonMonique Pilié founded Hike for KaTREEna in early 2006 with the aim of planting 2175 trees. In early 2011, after guiding the organization she founded to plant over four times that number of trees, she’ll be handing over the reins to Connie Uddo.

What’s Monique going to do when she leaves? Hike the Appalachian Trail once more…and then move on to more challenging ventures.

We wish her all the best.

Join a planting

We plant throughout much of the year, except the summer. If you’d like to join us, take a look at the schedule for our upcoming plantings and then hit the Volunteer With Us page to let us know you’re interested. We supply shovels and water, so all we need is your enthusiasm and labor.
