There’s Only One Response That Immediately Comes To Mind

…and that’s fuck you, you fucking fucks.

To hell with Jefferson Parish and the opportunities that supposedly live there.  I can take some of the other boosterist claims in their ad campaign with a grain of salt and my tongue firmly in cheek…

You put art in its place? Yeah, right there on Veterans Boulevard with the revolving Rodrigue Blue/Yellow/Red Dog.

You lowered crime rates? Alright, you got us there.  But you’ve still got to lock your doors.

You reinvented a city? I like the Fat City graphic next to that one, especially since you’re probably gonna reinvent it out of existence.

You planted 1400 trees? Meet Monique Pilie and her Hike for Katreena cause, which has planted over 7000 trees in New Orleans and counting.

…but…but…let’s look at this garbage again:

You know, this completely ignores the 8/29/2005 flooding in Old Metairie, as well as the fact that the swollen 17th Street Canal could have breached into Jefferson Parish.  It wasn’t better levee construction, it was dumb luck.  And JP isn’t building the levees – that’s still largely under the Army Corps of Engineers’ umbrella.

But hey, if it gets more people to make Jefferson Parish their home, so much the better!

Forget that billboard…the whole ad campaign has got to go.

Update, 1/16: Fox 8 gets Jefferson Parish residents’ reactions, and they’re appalled, too.

How about a billboard that reads:

JEFFERSON PARISH – WELCOMING FOLKS RUNNING AWAY FROM NEW ORLEANS SINCE 1960 – LIVING OFF THE CITY BUT GIVING NOTHING IN RETURN

Or how about:

JEFFERSON PARISH – SURE WE ABANDONED OUR PUMP STATIONS IN AUGUST 2005 AND OUR PEOPLE SUFFERED – AND PLEASE DO NOT TALK ABOUT OUR CBD THAT IS ALMOST ENTIRELY BELOW SEA LEVEL

JEFFERSON PARISH – FILLED WITH COMMUNITY PARASITES – LIVING OFF THE NEW ORLEANS BRAND – WHEN IT IS CONVENIENT

a) They aren’t exposed to as much water as Orleans and St. Bernard parish.
b) JP don’t build jack, it’s the ACoE.
c) I’d rather live in Houston than in Metairie or Kenner.

I know exactly who made that graphic. I used to work for that ad agency. They also print a magazine for the Parish. That graphic is total bull shit. Some kind of mind control. Stupidity and corruption is what that whole business deal is.

Just because they have all the Raising Cane’s and the Chick-fil-a’s, JP gotta get all uppity.

Who did they hire for their marketing campaign? The Sarah Palin Marketing Team?

Wow. Just, wow. All levees and gates throughout the greater New Orleans area are designed and constructed to exactly the same standards. If we read that billboard as suggesting the levees in Jefferson Parish are “better” than others in the area, that’s a total lie. If instead they mean their levees are being made “better” than they were before, then yes, that’s true. But levees throughout the area are all getting “better.”

And Jefferson Parish can’t take credit for paying for it, either. All the work is being paid for by the Federal government and the State of Louisiana.

One more choice factoid: A lot of the flooding in Metairie was the result of backflow through unmanned pump stations. They were unmanned because Jefferson Parish did not spend the money required to stormproof their pump stations and they did not have safe houses for operators. They are getting that now, but only because the Federal government is paying for it.

Maitri gets it right: The reason Kenner and Metairie have not suffered hurricane flooding as much or as often as St. Bernard and Orleans Parishes is mostly because of local topography.

Peace,

Tim

No amount of imaginary levee building can compensate for the sheer urban horror of Veterans Blvd @ rush hour.

I’d rather drown than be the King of Strip Malls, anyway.

You are now free to gag in disgust.

Actually fat, family friendly levees does sound like what one would aim for.

Those levees JP is mouthing off about are younger than the ones in Orleans Parish. Wait a decade or two and repost this with an “Mm hm…”
