Community Journalists Chosen to Attend Reporting Symposium On Impacts of the Economic Crisis on American Families

Twenty community journalists from across the United States have been selected to attend a two-day symposium to learn how to report local stories and develop multimedia reporting projects on the impacts of the economic crisis on American families.

The symposium, funded by a grant from The McCormick Foundation and co-hosted by Suburban Newspapers of America (SNA) Foundation and the Association Press Managing Editors (APME), is part of McCormick's Specialized Reporting Institutes program. The training takes place April 5 and 6 in Chicago at the Chicago Sun-Times.

NewsTrain announces 2011 seminars

NewsTrainNEW YORK CITY — Today's journalists will learn relevant skills they can put to immediate use from two upcoming NewsTrain programs sponsored by the Associated Press Managing Editors.

APME's NewsTrain provides low-cost regional training to help frontline editors become more effective leaders in print and online news operations of all sizes. Nationally recognized trainers offer practical advice and proven management techniques that editors can use on the job right away. More than 5,000 journalists have attended NewsTrain since its inception seven years ago.

Innovator of the Year: New Program to Highlight Innovations Each Month

The Associated Press Managing Editors’ Innovator of the Year contest enters its fifth year in 2011, and it’s expanding to highlight newspaper innovations all year long.

Associated Press-member newspapers are now invited to enter their innovative work at any time. Judges will recognize one paper per month.
