Coin Lock Update

Elrar, an assistant community manager for Trion, has posted over at the official forums that there will be an update to the new Coin Lock system. This system came to be from the numerous complaints about accounts being compromised, and here is what he has to say about the update:

    "Hi everyone,

With the release of Coin Lock yesterday we have been constantly adjusting and improving the system to ensure it is as effective as possible. With this goal in mind we will be requiring all players to validate their connection by activating Coin Lock on all accounts at the conclusion of the current update. You will receive a validation code in your email upon logging in (if you don't receive the email please check your junk mail before requesting a new one in-game), please enter the code provided to deactivate Coin Lock and continue playing normally.

With the current update we have also corrected a couple of issues brought to our attention, thanks for your feedback:

  • Characters cannot be deleted while an account is Coin Locked.
  • Characters cannot accept CoD mail if they are coin locked.
  • Decreased the cooldown between requests to re-send Coin Lock key emails.
  • Logging into an account with an existing connection will now force the connected account to fully exit the game.
  • We appreciate your continued patience and cooperation, the information you provide is invaluable in our efforts against these attacks and it remains our number one priority to ensure we have done all in our power to maintain the security of your accounts.

For continued discussion of this topic as well as additional information about what you can do to improve the security of your account please see this thread: Account Security Discussion – Thank you for helping us to improve Coin Lock and make RIFT even better!"

Rift account security issue discovered

Eaderbreca - BERJAYA 0 Comments

Esloan over at HorRIFTic Intentions added a post on his site recently that may indicate the end of the current rash of hacked Rift accounts:

Just successfully logged into a friend's account (with his permission, and while he watched) without knowing his username or password, by bypassing the auth system entirely. Worse, all it took was about thirty seconds of time once I got all of the details locked down. I did trigger Coin Lock, but I was fully able to access that handy delete-character button, so this exploit is a griefer's dream. This is a huge security hole. Accounts can be accessed without needing any information at all from clients.
Even though it turned out to not be a keylogger, those lessons needed to be learned. Its not a keylogger now but it will be in the future. Because of this, everyone's security knowledge went up ten-fold. See here for the full article.

Rift Warrior Leveling Guide

Eaderbreca - BERJAYA 0 Comments

David and Alex of the Rift Leveling crew have published a Warrior leveling guide!:

For the first 18 levels or so most of your points will go into Champion and Riftblade. I’ll start with Champion. The first main ability you are going to want to pick up is Bull Rush. Bull Rush is great because it allows you to move quickly from enemy to enemy, allowing fast kills and more experience. The best part is the cool down is like nothing, so it saves you tons of time. Another big ability you should go after is Soldier’s Bearing. Getting this requires you to put 4 points into Champion though, so it’s up to you where they go. Basically Soldier’s Bearing gives you free extra damage with its 5 percent bonus that stacks with other buffs. Take No Prisoners is another great talent for free damage.

Rift Junkies Editorial: Ear to the Rift: Put Some Clothes On!

Eaderbreca - BERJAYA 0 Comments

MMO Gurl of Rift Junkies shares her thoughts on female characters covering!:

People have been discussing the issue of scantily clad female characters pretty heavily as of late; the last time I checked the main topic was up to 52 pages on the forums. The ironic thing is that the class that should have the most covering seems to have the least: the warrior. I have only leveled my warrior to 24 as of yet, but with about 4 different armor sets I’ve noticed that her outfit gets to be less and less. It’s not singled out to just the warrior though; other NPCs, like the Greater Faerie pet, are showing a lot of skin too. Now this could be because the developers feel women want to play on characters that are more obviously feminine, but it seems that this can be done without making the characters wear thongs. An armor chest-piece that looks like a bra is just not realistic as far as battle goes and in my opinion is in poor taste fashion-wise.

IncGamers: Mount Guide

Eaderbreca - BERJAYA 0 Comments

IncGamers has released a nice page on Rift Mounts!:

They are probably one of the main things we save up for right from the get go because as soon as you have the money you can buy your first mount. Thankfully you don’t have to reply on Shanks’ Pony until you reach level 20 in Rift. There are different types, some faction dependant and some go faster than others but of course extra speed costs extra spondoolies. I’ve put together a guide on the mounts currently available, with images for each. If you don’t ever play the other faction it’s interesting to see which mounts you’re missing out on. Prices and details of where you can pick them up are also there.

Alsbeth the Discordant, Right Hand of Regulos

Eaderbreca - BERJAYA 0 Comments

The Rift Junkies have posted an awesome article regarding the Lore of Alsbeth the Discordant, Right Hand of Regulos!:

Alsbeth Rothmann came to the Court of Mathos as a quiet young girl with sallow skin and dark hair who always stood behind the crowd, alone under the shadow of her family’s grave dishonor. Her ancient lineage had been in a slow and steady decline since Phynnious Rothmann, first of the Pyromancers, originally won glory. Her father had murdered her mother for adultery, and was himself executed in turn. Young Alsbeth found herself an orphan, and then a homeless one, as her uncle inherited the family estate and promptly kicked her out.

HorRIFTic : Dungeon Guide: Runic Descent

Eaderbreca - BERJAYA 0 Comments

HorRIFTic has posted a very nice guide on Runic Descent. You need the information that they offer if you want to excel in there!:

The influence of Regulos is insidious, capable of overt displays such as zombies and ghouls, and subtle corruption such as befell the delve of Hammerknell and its adjacent garden now called Runic Descent, in Moonshade. Hammerknell is sealed. The kings under the mountain built their city with runebinding, enslaving Death spirits and the souls of unfortunate mortals to power their wondrous magic. All was splendor until the rifts opened and the runes fueling Hammerknell overflowed with Death magic. Necrotic energies swept through the delve, possessing many Dwarves, killing many more. Only those few who made it out of the city survived, trapping the dead and damned behind doors as thick as a city boulevard. They hoped such measures would keep the Death magics from contaminating the world beyond their lost city.

Rift Cleric Leveling Guide

Eaderbreca - BERJAYA 0 Comments

Do you play a Cleric and wonder how to level him up easily? Once again, Dzierba of the Rift Leveling crew has posted this awesome guide just for you!:

The Cleric may be the slowest leveling character. At least it was when I played, but with certain soul combinations you can rapidly increase the experience you gain, ultimately increasing your level. With this Rift Cleric leveling guide you should have no excuses when it comes to leveling up a Cleric easily. The Rift Cleric leveling build that I have found the quickest way to level was Justicar/Druid/Shaman. With Justicar put 5 points into Hammer of Virtue, which will increase your damage, so you are going to want to use two-handed maces. If you are in a group you can swap two-handed maces with a mace and a shield.

HorRIFTtic Dungeon Guide: Deepstrike Mines

Eaderbreca - BERJAYA 0 Comments

HorRITFic has released a very detailed guide on the Deepstrike Mines!:

Deepstrike Mines is the second instance that Defiant players will find, located in Stonefield near Granite Falls. It is designed for characters level 24-28. Guardians may also enter the dungeon and can get there by traveling through Gloamwood, down into Scarlet Gorge and then up the souther path into Stonefield. In my opinion, it is the first instance that poses a challenge for veteran MMO players. Two of the bosses can be very tough without some planning.
Read on for a complete guide on the quests, rewards and boss strategies for this incredible instance!

Rift Survival Guide

Eaderbreca - BERJAYA 0 Comments

Welcome to the next installment of the Rift Survival Guide! Today Rift Reporting is going to be talking The Black Garden Warfront and how not only to succeed in it, but excel!:
The Black Garden is the first Warfront, or scenario based, cross-server, PvP battle a player can access (at level 10). With 2 teams of 10 members each, the object is to reach 500 points or have the highest score after 20 minutes. Points are earned by killing members of the opposite team or by having one of your member carry the Fang of Regulos. The closer to the center of the map the carrier is or the kill is made, the more points are earned, with extra points awarded for kills made by the Fang carrier or by killing the opponents Fang carrier. Several power ups are located around the map, boosting character aspects (e.g damage) for a limited amount of time.
This is very useful, is it not? You really want to read more about the survival guide!

Leveling Guide: Making Platinum With Gathering Professions

Eaderbreca - BERJAYA 0 Comments

How do you make plats with gathering professions? Rift leveling guide tells us that if we want to make the most money, and level up at the same time, it’s obvious that we should take all three professions:

If you do decide to take up all the gathering professions it would be wise to save some materials so you can level your crafting professions in the future. If you only want to take one or two gathering professions, you should know how to choose which one or two. Mining gives you materials generally for armorsmiths and weaponsmiths which gives you access to the biggest group of players looking for them. It is also useful for runecrafters. Foraging gives materials for artificers, apothecaries, and weaponsmiths. These three crafting professions make up almost half of Rift players. Butchering is used to provide materials for outfitters, and a small amount for apothecaries and armorsiths. The demand if roughly half of the player base.

Squidoo: Rift Professions

Eaderbreca - BERJAYA 0 Comments

Rift currently features nine professions. Do you know which one you will take? Squidoo teaches us about Butchery, Mining and Foraging, and the benefits of choosing these professions along with the downfalls of picking these professions:

Currently Rift features nine different professions which are split into gathering and crafting professions. The crafting professions generally deal with materials that you gather, but sometimes can include materials crafted by others or bought from NPC vendors. Crafting professions are usually more costly, but they also yield useful items compared to gathering professions. There are three different gathering professions in the game Rift: Planes of Telara.
