Cooking Wood in your Furnace creates Charcoal, which can be used the same way as [[Coal]]! Dye your Sheep for a more plentiful colored Wool source. Herd your Sheep into the water where you have some Squid, physical contact between the two will Dye your sheep black. Sheep are attracted to light, build your pen for holding them and make sure it is well lit. If you leave one spot open sheep should wander into your pen on their own if there is a well lit section within it. Throw your Eggs for a chance to spawn more Chickens. Spiders can now climb all walls except for the new SandStone ones!
This update affects both the client and the server, but the server update isn’t mandatory. I highly suggest updating, though.By the way, quick tip of the day regarding the 1.2 update... did you know you can use your Dyes on the Sheep?! You can now officially create a rainbow bright world.
Fixed various blocks acting really weird when placed (rails, torches, and more) Optimized performance Added a new painting that we forgot to include yesterday Reduced spawn rates a bit Fixed a whole pile of lighting bugs No more ghosts at night Added a temporary fix to get rid of chunk visibility errors
The last one is interesting.. The problem with chunk visibility errors was that for some reason the “dirty” flag on chunks and the list of “dirty chunks” got out of synch. There wasn’t time to try to do a proper fix today, so I just made the client check a couple of dirty chunks per frame to make sure they’re in the list.
So until we fix it proper, you might get invisible chunks, but they will fix themselves after a second or two, usually way before you even get close to them. -Notch

"I am peeing myself with excitement. Figuratively. There's no actual urine." -NotchNow, let the fun begin! Onward and upward to the 2 million mark we go! Again, a huge congrats to Notch and his fantastic team.
(Poke the 'Read More' link to read the entire update.)Week two of 2011 has started, and we had a great Monday. I’ve got a bunch of information to share, so here goes in a totally unstructured way:
We’ve written down major goals that we want to do for Minecraft release, and it looks like the release will happen sometime late this year. Hopefully we’ll be able to set a date soon.
Because I want to avoid us just focusing on reaching release, I suggested that we should dedicate 50% of the development time in Minecraft towards adding fun new stuff. Basically, any developer working on the game (two people at the moment) can just come up with something they’d want to add on a day-to-day basis, as long as the rest of the team thinks it’s a decent idea. If it ends up being fun, it gets added.
This 50% time has been accounted for in the time estimate above.
"As I picked away, the face shed more tears. The godlike stars still fell and rose to the haunting demonic music. That’s when I broke through and a vast explosion of raping fire spewed from the opening.Set in a mixed perspective, combining both the reality of playing the game with what you are feeling within the game, this short story is actually quite engulfing and remarkable. Kudos to 'Master Craftsman' for being the mastermind behind The Secret of Minecraft (Creepy+Pasta Blog).
I backed away as fast as I could, expecting to die, but I had a full health bar; in fact, the fire had done nothing to me. I stepped nearer, nothing. I stepped into the fires, a sound unusually realistic resonated, and I knew my flesh was burning...."
"Starting a game of Minecraft is a jarring (but not unpleasant) experience. It's like being born, teleporting down onto the surface of a strange planet, or getting stranded on a massive island. Suddenly, you just exist, with no way back, and you're all alone. Warping in on a sandy shoreline nestled up against a series of hills and valleys, my first instinct was to move to high ground and get my bearings. I scaled a series of grassy plateaus dotted with trees, and soon found myself staring out across an expansive scenic vista. I was immediately struck by a sense of awe and wonder at how a landscape made of crude 3D blocks could still be so beautiful." -GameSpyHead on over and check out the article in its entirety. There is also a good bit of info and history included which will pique the interest for those of you who have been devouring blocks in the game for several months now. For example, did you know minecraft was initially "....a top-down isometric strategy game where you were supposed to be able to order small workers around to gather resources and build up a base"

Yesterday was Strategy Meeting Day(tm) at Mojang. During the morning, we broke up into two groups and tried to come up with a suggestion on how to spend the next six months or so in different areas. I was part of the Minecraft and [Secret New Game] group. A big part of the discussion was to try to define what the full version of Minecraft actually is, and I think we ended up with something decent. During the afternoon, we had a group discussion about both timelines presented, and added some points and moved some other points around.Mmmm delicious! So many fantastic updates in our future, as if the game weren't already addictive enough.
While we were doing this, there was a film crew on place (since Monday, actually), documenting and interviewing. I’m not sure if they want it to be secret or not, so I won’t say who they were yet. It was great having them here, though. :)
For Minecraft, we set up a rough schedule covering the major points that need to be added. For new content, we decided not to list it in detail, as that should be added in a more agile way where you kinda go from day to day deciding what would make the most sense, or just if someone gets a great idea that they want to try right away. The first two big points were, in order of priority, “New save file format”, and “Add mod support”.
On Monday, we’ll try to guess how long each point will take, then come up with a release date for Minecraft. Since we’re releasing often and early, the actual release itself won’t contain any huge changes to the game compared to what it was like a week ago, but it represents a point of time where we go from “trying to finish a game” to “maintaining and expanding upon a game”. It’s going to feel great to have something that I can point at and say “we made this. This is it”.
Oh, and I’ve finally committed the Music Blocks to the repository.
(Oh, wait, no, I didn’t.. Doing so broke git, so we’re changing to svn because git is horrible and evil) -Notch 1/6/2011
Using the /Give Name # command in game (see Server) will drop the appropriate item at the players feet by default. An Example, if Ocura wanted some Lava the command would be give Ocura 11 .The page was created for those of you handing out goodies on your servers but are stumped on the ID numbers. Remember, if you want to find an item number on the page very quickly you can hit 'CTRL-F' in your browser window for a quick find box. Enter the item name and there you have it.The some server gui's and setups don't require a / in front of the command, using a custom server or no gui may require a slight alteration to the command. /give Ocura 11 or give Ocura 11 (without the slash) being the most common/default settings.
The current item ID numbers are as follows......
