Stats Geek: Neither Lopez nor 'Melo Worth the Effort
Count David Berri of Wages of Wins among the skeptics regarding a Nets-Nuggets trade...on both sides. He doesn't believe Brook Lopez is "untouchable." In fact, he thinks Lopez is "one of the least productive players in the NBA in 2010-11." As for Carmelo Anthony, he writes "Melo isn’t worth maximum money (even if he has improved this year). But he would help the Nets a bit on the court."
Berri bases his analysis on his Wins Produced formula. Prior to this year, he says Lopez was "about average" but this year "far below average," calling him "an inefficient scorer from the field and a poor rebounder. In addition, he is below average with respect to steals, assists, and blocked shots".
Expect Lopez to stay, Berri writes, because "If the Nets trade a player Anthony believes helps the team win – even if that isn’t true – the deal will never get done". Meanwhile, Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld writes that there is dissension in Anthony's camp over how to proceed on a trade...or whether to proceed at all.

Kris Talks to "People" About K's
Hiring that personal press rep has already paid off for Kris Humphries. People Magazine interviewed him!
Humphries doesn't talk about Kim Kardashian, but that's why he was interviewed. After all, the headline is "Five Things to Know About Kim Kardashian's New Beau Kris Humphries."
The first thing? Like the Kardashians, the Humphries gave all their kids names that begin with K!! Kim may have Khloé, Kourtney, Kendall and Kylie, but Kris has sisters Krystal and Kaela. The rest most Nets fans know about: the pre-teen swimming competition with Michael Phelps, the Kris Humphries Foundation and if you follow his Twitter feed, his love of "The Office" and poker.
Of course, the article is one of Tuesday's most read on the People website. It's Kris Humphries world. We just live in it.
Jay-Z, Nets Add to Relationship with Ad Agency Deal To Promote Move
Starting in February, an advertising agency partly owned by Jay-Z will begin marketing the "Brooklyn Nets" brand (if indeed that turns out to be the name). Initially reported by Sports Business Journal, the agreement has been confirmed by Barclays Center, which hired the agency, Translation.
According to the report, Translation has been "newly hired to coordinate marketing behind the Nets' move to Brooklyn and the new arena." The agency will "orchestrate the first pitch for 'Brooklyn Nets' tickets, with initial ads expected in February". Team officials have declined to say if "Nets" will be part of the team name, but suggest "Brooklyn" will be. Jay-Z, a minority owner for six years, has been to two Nets games so far this season.

Nets Give Fans Snow Check
The Nets will offer ticket exchanges for fans who had tickets for last night’s game, whether they made it to Prudential Center or not. Ticketholders can swap tickets for last night’s game to any home game in January by exchanging them at the Prudential Center Box office, beginning on Thursday, Dec. 30. Exchanges can be made during box office hours or on game nights.
Different Magic, Same Result for Nets
This wasn't the same Magic team team as the one the Nets faced twice in early November, but the result was the same. The Nets kept it close for 2 1/2 quarters on Monday at the Prudential Center, but they simply didn't have enough, falling 104-88 to drop to 9-22.
The Nets held a brief lead midway through the third quarter, but Orlando was in control most of the game and their 16-5 run right after the Nets took the lead was one the Nets would never recover from. The Magic shot 49 percent from the field and 12-for-28 from 3-point range. They had six players in double-figures, led by Hedo Turkoglu (20 points) and Dwight Howard (19 points, 13 rebounds, six blocks).
Devin Harris led the Nets with 24 points and five assists and Brook Lopez held his own against Howard, finishing with added 18 points and seven boards. But the rest of the Nets shot just 14-for-48 from the field.

Magic Interested in Troy Murphy?
Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix on Twitter and YES' Mike Fratello on the air both suggested Monday that the Magic may be interested in Troy Murphy...but how?
Mannix tweeted, "Don't be surprised if Orlando goes after Troy Murphy if Murphy is bought out after the deadline. Big, stretch four would fit the system." Fratello also hinted of the Magic's interest but added that until the Carmelo Anthony situation is resolved, don't expect the Nets to do anything with any asset that could be dealt to Denver.
There haven't been any reports of the Nets wanting to buy out Murphy.

LeBron Backs Off Contraction After Avery Comment on Heat Trio
MIkhail Prokhorov declined comment when asked about LeBron James' contraction remarks, but Avery Johnson didn't. Asked for his reaction to James' opinion that the NBA might be better off without the Nets and Timberwolves, Johnson reponded, "Maybe the league would be better if we didn't have three stars on one team."
On Monday afternoon, asked about Johnson's remarks, James (sort of) retreated: "I didn't mean to upset nobody. I didn't tell Avery Johnson to leave, either. I just said, imagine if you take Kevin Love off Minnesota or Devin Harris or Brook Lopez (off the Nets), there's going to be better teams and the competition is rising.
"I didn't say let's abandon the Nets and not let them move to Brooklyn."
Johnson said Sunday that he left the team's meeting with James this past July believing the two-time MVP respected the Nets. After all, they do have the richest owner in the NBA and are moving to an $900 million arena in Brooklyn. "We're going to Brooklyn. We're not going to contract," said Johnson, who added that he expects to speak with James about the insult next time they see each other.
