TRENDING: Oprah talks Palin, 2012
mug.cnnpolitics

Washington (CNN) - Oprah Winfrey says America may "fall in love" with Sarah Palin as a TV star, but is dismissing the idea that the country would vote for the former Alaska governor in the future.

Asked in an interview with Parade magazine if the thought of Palin's running for office scares her, Winfrey responded, "It does not scare me because I believe in the intelligence of the American public."

Winfrey, who interviewed Palin shortly after her first book was released, said she was not sure if the former Republican vice presidential candidate would run for president in 2012.

"I don't know her so I can't speak to [whether or not she'll be a candidate]," Winfrey said in the interview.

But, Winfrey complimented Palin's new reality show and said of Palin's performance, "I would say that America's going to fall in love with her [from her reality series, Sarah Palin's Alaska.]"

"When I saw that first episode, I went, 'Whoa! She is charming and very likable.'"

Much attention was paid to Winfrey's political influence during the 2008 presidential election; she threw her support behind then-Illinois Senator Barack Obama early on in the race. Winfrey also hosted fundraisers and stumped for Obama on the campaign trail.

I know how Oprah likes giveaways, but the US Federal Government really needs to get out of that mode and start managing our money better. Oprah is an entertainer. Her thoughts on politics are entertaining. At best.

  2. DNC should sponsor Palin campaign

All polls show Palin is so unpopular with the general public that a run by her guarantees a win for the Democrats & would destroy the Repub. party (heh-heh).

    So – run, Sarah, run!

Oprah – okay, you may have a POINT about people "falling in love" with PALIN because of her reality show but why can't you just TELL THE REAL TRUTH – No, she should not be a "candidate" and NO, she will never be President!!! Jeez!!

Support our current leader, President Obama, while he continues to MOVE AMERICA FORWARD!!! Yes we can and Yes we will!

Just because someone is nice and personable doesn't mean she is a good person to be running the country. I don't think she has the mental muscle to do the job.

Palin has all the expertise of being a very good BAD EXAMPLE. She quit her Job as Governor , aflop as a mother about real life and choices about sex, Brags about hunting ,and has aides loading telling her how to aim ,where the trigger is, KILLS FISH WITH A BASEBALL BAT. THESE ARE SOME OF THE BETTER ASPECTS OF HER LIFE. THE WORST IS YET TO COME. this big time loser will sooner or later have to face the real professional interigators, not fellow staff members.

I can't believe Oprah thinks this bigot is "likable." What Oprah is really saying is the ding bat is likable so long as she doesn't become President. Haha.

Oprah is smart. The other one may be wily, but not smart at all. She should stay in show business. The more she talks without someone writing her stuff (and even then) she shows the world more and more how totally blank, inept, and dumb she is. Too dumb to realize she's dumb. Can you imagine her working on that nuclear arms treaty? Good God!

Fox News (sic) has the right wing, MSNBC has the liberals, and CNN is going after tea partiers. Lovely. Most trusted name in News? Maybe not so much anymore. I suggest you either call yourselves TPN for Tea Party Network, or maybe even better SPN for Sarah Palin Network. Y'all are relegating yourselves to the trash heap without any help from the outside. Sad. You used to be the best. Remember Bernard Shaw, anyone?

Oprah can't "speak to" what Palin's supporters might do with their votes: it's a rare Palin fan who would sit through an entire episode of Oprah's TV show.
I am one Palin admirer who could not ever sit through another Oprah show, although I doubt that Palin will be elected president in 2012.
Sarah Palin will continue to have a positive influence on America's work ethic.

oprah lost any respect I ever had for her when she decided to have this media ho on her show to promote her coloring book. I really and truly don't know what this country is coming to when this woman thinks that the ex mayor of wasilla is worthy of anything!!!
The part about intelligence of the American public is not only a slap in the face of this woman who she says is charming and likable (pardon me while I puke) and a joke bigger than what oprah has become.
oprah might have lost her dumb mind but I doubt that this sounds like an endorsemnt of the AK bimbo. BTW – what's up with that stupid picture of this woman? What she trying to hear how much people hate her? She looks like a damn fish out of water.

I wish Oprah would keep her political opinions to herself. The "he's The One" speech was all full of crap. Clearly Obama, no matter what he does/doesn't do, will always be her favorite and anyone who might be running against him is a no go.

I will certainly not be voting for Obama in 2012...no matter who is running against him.

"I believe in the intelligence of the American public" – Oprah you are 100% correct. We've caught on that your boy Obama is nothing but a fraud and we've realized all that "change" talk during 2008 was just words and that's it. I think we've proved that during the 2010 elections. I'm not entirely a Palin supporter, but i would pick her over any Liberal/Democrat "do nothing" socialistic idiot.

We've been given a reprieve on taxes, our unemployed citizens can still feel the love, and we've taken care of our first responders. HAPPY HOLIDAYS. Let's be grateful for leaders who play well together, for representatives who work together, and for an end to 2010's bickering. Change has come, and it's still on a roll.

Sarah Palin may be dreaming of having her own show that would have the run time of an Oprah Winfrey show. What Sister Sarah doesn't realize is that sooner or later she will wake up to find it was all a dream and she has got to hit the lake to catch breakfast for the family. Sarah Palin, I know Oprah Winfrey and you are no Oprah Winfrey. In fact you are not even a complete Sarah Palin. Even Sarah Palin isn't all there. Charming? No. Likeable? No. What is to like about a woman who rides to fame based on having five children and being the Governor of a sparsely populated state, then when she loses an election (by being mean, dishonest, and unprepared) she quits her dream job, blaming others, quits on her family by running around like a maniac collecting checks for speeches she doesn't write, then signs up for a TV show proclaiming yet again that 'family is first.' Right, after money, the next photo op, and more money. She isn;t even involved with her prop child, Trig, unless there is a camera around. She is a disgusting person, and as her book sales have already peaked, even her fans are becoming disenchanted with the money grubber. Bye, bye, Sarah.

Sarah is "likable" if one can get past her self centered, self serving agenda where she plays the role of "savior" while fully exploiting each situation to her full advantage. Her ignorance would be a likable trait if it is accompanied by innocence, unlike Palin and her snarky remarks for answering her critics and foes. One example is the way she has gone after The First Lady for calling attention to what a nation of fat, pampered, soft slobs many of us have become and the fact that we are raising our children in a way that is shortening their lives and quality of life. One can only wonder what will happen to health care in this country when a third of the adults are diabetics. Get a grip on reality...

I think Oprah's admiration for Palin's "charming" quality on her reality show is misplaced. Palin is only charming in situations where she has total control. That's why she won't appear on any reputable news programs. They won't allow her to pre-screen their questions. Palin's charm is fake. In reality, she is a narcissistic, vindictive woman who has absolutely no self-awareness of her own limitations.

With over a quarter century of professional observation, I think Oprah is highly qualified to make the statements she did.
Sarah Palin is a "hot chick" and cute in her own way, but the shallowness and deception in her shows through when she gets oof script.

Oprah, WHAT have you been smoking? America "fall in love" with Sarah Palin? PUH-LEEEEEZE. America detests Sarah Palin, and Americans think she's a worthless bimbo slob. Fatuous, mindless sheep-like wingnuts might like her, but America overwhelmingly rejects her for the sly, opportunistic, uneducated, Plebian cow that she is. I have just lost what little tolerance I might once had for Oprah.

the big O! You are sooooo polite. I don't think I could ever be so diplomatic....

In my 59 years I don't think I have ever seen anyone like Palin that is so utterly without substance of any kind that has these delusional pretenses that she is any kind of intellect or leader of any kind. She is the classic narcissist, funny even more that she doesn't even know what that is or where the term even came from.

Most pathetic comment on our society is that she has a following of sh**t for brains morons that think she is anything but a joke of the worst(and scariest) kind.

But fear not people, 2012 is coming and the the higher vibrating beings will be separated(thank God!) from the lower the vibrating chafe!

Spiritual and physical evolution is real!

Blessing be to those who love all things and all people.

WARNING TO CNN.... I have been a fan of CNN for many years ....but....your 27/7 coverage of Palin is turning your network into a supermarket tabloid rag like the National Enquirer and turning off followers like me.....give it a rest......PLEASE!!!

This woman does not deserve the coverage you are giving her and you are missing out on important stuff that makes a difference in our lives.

Palin won't 'waste time' on Couric so why do you waste YOUR time on her???

I can delete CNN from my favorites on the internet and the cable but HOPE you will let her fade into the oblivion that she has created for herself.

She is spot on. I used to fear that the rest of the nation was truly fooled by this quitter governor. She did not know what her job was as governor and refused to be accessible to those UNDER her- she treats most people as though she is well above them- it is truly sad that any one believes her- the state of Alaska had the wool pulled over their eyes (most) but it was instantly clear that she was in over her head as a pretend governor

Oprah is correct. Americans are too intelligent to vote for this Quitter from Wasilla. Unfortunately for the far right wing of the Republican party, California and New York still constitute almost 1/3 of the electoral college vote required to win the presidency...and they only carried 1 of the "big 5" states in the last election. She's going to have to appeal to more than one-eyed dorks in Alabama, South Carolina and 3 electoral vote states to win. There aren't enough people in West Texas that think the earth is 5,000 years old to vote for her to overcome the many other concerns she brings with her. Where is Ronald Reagan when we need him ?

I preface my comment re: this article by stating that I find Oprah Winfrey one of the most annoying public people in existence (ranking right up there with Larry King and Barbara Walters).

With that said, I concur with Ms. Winfrey's assessment of Sarah Palin. Truly, Ms. Palin is a sorely-dysfunctional person – narcissistic, self-serving, unethical, a failed parent and public servant, and miserably functionally-illiterate. She has no reasonable grasp of what is happening in our country, or our world.

Ms. Winfrey has struck out against the likes of Ms. Palin, and declared incredible optimism on behalf of the voters of the U.S. For this, she deserves credit.

Where is the news in this article? Oprah dissed Sarah during the campaign. Of course, she made it very obvious who she was supporting. Should have had to give equal time under the election laws. Glad to see you're going off the air, Oprah. You should have been neutral.

Oprah's opinion on politics? She believes in the intelligence of the American voter? The American people have somewhere in the range of 12-13% approval rating for their elected congress. They elected a president that doesn't know which way is up after 2 years in office. They only thing she right about is Sarah Palin's attraction to the people. Palin is a fresh attraction on the political arena that stinks up the land. In my opinion, the country is morally lower that whale dung. And its that way because Americans lost their way and their elected representatives no longer actually represent them, but do whatever they want as long as their pockets keep being filled.

America is truly a land of opportunities: Look at a semi-illiterate, know-nothing, irritating-as-squeaking-brake, dumb-as-moose and semi-woman named sara made it from mayor for moose, governor for ice-aged people, and, a reality tv to show America what is possible.

Would some body miss the moose and hit the real moose on your next hunting trip.

I think that is about right – people love to watch Palin as a spectacle. When it boils down to it, however, nobody really thinks she's qualified to be president. She's a political side show that at one time could get butts in the seats as a curiosity. No disrespect to Mrs. Palin, but she lost credibility as a viable candidate when she quit the governor's office and whined that it was the fault of the "liberal media." If she can't hack the "liberal media" as governor, how could she deal as president?

That's right, Oprah, you DON'T know her!! This wretched, attention-seeking woman has brought ridicule and humiliation raining down on Alaskans. She is an embarrassment, intellectually inferior, and most of us wish she would permanently disappear. I agree with Oprah, the American people don't have to be told that the pretty lady is all show and no substance. Sarah continues to make money by staying in the spotlight, and if she was being honest with her followers she would let them know that elective office is really not her cup of tea. The people of Alaska already know about Sarah, and they don't really believe that she has the necessary capabilities to be in the White House.

Would you PLEASE stop starting all of your Ticker columns with an article about Mrs. Palin? I am not the least bit interested in anything about her. She is an egomaniac. Six out of ten of those polled wouldn't consider voting for her. Why do you continue to spend valuable time and space on her and not give coverage to more thoughtful, serious, real public servants? I AM interested in other items in Ticker, but I resent having to see the trivia about her in order to get to the real news. If CNN wants to be taken seriously, and that is certainly questionable, you will stop giving this silly woman so much attention, Thank you.

What?! I worried about the "intelligence" of Winfrey when she endorsed Obama in 2008! I wish the "public" would get over the influence Winfrey has in making simple decisions that they cannot make for themselves. I mean, who can't pick out their own book to read but need her to endorse one before they would even think about reading it? Pitiful. Oprah, some of us really aren't your little sheep. We can move forward without following you and your opinions.

Taking Sarah Palin seriously in the context of politics is absurd and laughable. However, if the GOP would like to put her forward as a canditate in 2012, that would be great! People would find the real and vast majority of American's KNOW this woman has no business being anywhere near the presidency and would step up to prevent it. The thought of Sarah Palin as President of the United States is preposterous, to say the least.

Oprah has more faith in the American voter than I have. I can't see how any thinking person could see a legitimate poliitcal future for someone who took 6 schools to get a degree., couldn't name any of the amendments to the Constitution nor remember what magazines or newspapers she regularly read ,has no intellectual curiosity, has learned nothing except to criticize the current administration and fancies her self a presidential candidate. The hubris is almost too much to bear. There do seem to be a number of people out there who have bought her "gift of gab," pretty face ,and humerous manner and mistaken it for ability to run a major nation. Why does the former governor of Alaska's name appear daily in some context or another on the homepage of cnn.com? Is CNN orchestrating her political future with all this free promotion? Are these inane mentionings just a way to cultivate our consciousnesses in such a way as to make her forced presence a force of presence? Perhaps the former governor of Massachussetts is more worthy? Unlikely, for reasons CNN has yet to share with us. The media is indeed the message.

What I am afraid is that Oprah may have this one wrong and the voter does not have the intelligences not to vote for Palin just look at Bush and the tea party idiots that were put in to office what does that tell us about the american voter and were that country is headed business in this country want to be a global leader in the world market but we vote people in that have no idea what they are doing this is a joke and the world sees it. One reason why the american voter voted for bush in 2001 was that he was someone they could invite over for dinner but the only problem with that was he should not have been given a pass to be president because of that but he did and look what happened

    Reelect President Palin in 2016

Memo to lefty pundits and joyless bahar, C.S. Lewis wrote other things besides children's books, as Governor Palin knew, but you didn't. Now, who could he possibly been referring to when he wrote?

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Every day the lead off on the ticker is Sarah Palin.....the obsession continues.......CNN shamelessly creates and utilizes the hatred to allow the pool of Liberal Lemmings to vent their frustrations......George Orwell would be so proud.

If America was that 'intelligent', they would have ignored Oprah and chosen not to vote for Barack Hussein Obama. Sarah Palin would have been a far better president and America wouldn't be in nearly so much debt.

America is getting over Palinized. I do hope she runs though. If that's all the Republicans have, then it would be a walkin for Obama! RUN – PALIN – RUN!!!

Wait a minute....didn't Oprah fall in love with Obama during the election? Now Oprahs' gut feeling is true, then Palin should get elected in 2012 based on popularity. However there is one thing different between Obama and Palin; whereas Palin actually cares for the country and can actually bring hope and change, not just talk about it to get the minority votes.

So, this is a "political news story" about a woman who isnt in office, or running for office commenting about another woman who isnt in office or, at this point, running for office, but has a TV show that the first woman likes. And this is a "political news story" because why? You, at CNN continue to put Sarah Palin in the news for what reason exactly? She could not finish one term as governor, continually lies, makes up facts to suit her purpose, and, like pornography, has absolutely no redeeming social values. Sarah Palin's fifteen minutes of fame are up, let her go home and stay there.

Giving any attention to Palin and company is waste of time. She is not worthy of any media coverage.
    She cost Mccain presidency.
    She is a liar.
She quit her job at hand to lecture people how to govern.
She is minting money using her political ambitions.

There are millions of fools follow her and millions hate her. No matter what she does or media does, the opinions are not changing, this is why she is called polarizing.

It's still scary that so many people like her, and are unable to see past Palin's veneer. She speaks in platitudes but, like so many on the far right, is never able to articulate any true solutions. We are still incredibly naive as a nation, and have set the bar so very low that we accept people like Palin as "leaders."

He also could have passed Don't Ask Don't Tell 2 years ago but he could not beat the drum. Oprah 1/3rd of the country are Democrat, 1/3rd are Republican, and 1/3rd are independent. Any "intelligent" American would not consider Palin for anything is correct. Unfortunately, there are many who can't see that Palin is not what this country needs. We don't need a reality TV star....and we don't need a person with little experience who can talk the talk but can't walk the walk. I'd rather see Oprah running as president than Palin...at least Oprah has common sense and is an extremely successful businesswoman who would have more finesse with diplomacy than Palin is cpaple of!

It cracks me up when liberals like Oprah bash Palin because of her inexperience. But, Oprah will fawn all over Barack Obama.

Hello? Hypocrite much? Obama had less than 1 full term in the US Senate as his experience. Palin had less than 1 full term as governor of Alaska. Hate to break it to the liberals – but that experience is EQUAL. Yes, governor of Alaska doesn't have the same breadth of responsibilities as the US Senate. But, Palin's experience is in the executive branch of government. Obama's was in the legislative branch. In other words, Palin had experience GOVERNING and Obama didn't. As we can all tell, but that's another story.

So, if you're going to bash Palin for being too inexperienced to be President (which she IS by the way), then you have to admit we elected a similarly inexperienced and unqualified person to be President in Barack Obama. You can't have it both ways.

Unfortunately, Palin doesn't know how to keep her mouth shut and I'm sure we'll see yet another schoolyard retort to something that every intelligent person in America, Republican or Democrat already know. CNN and the rest of the mainstream media have created this monster...only they have the power to end it. And in most countries, the media would have called out Palin for what she is long ago....only in America could she be taken remotely seriously.

Aptly put Ms. Winfrey, and a frank, clear and concise assessment of the Half-Wit half-termers' chances of acquiring the votes of any one with a modicum of intelligence.
I am not an avid Oprah fan but I admire everything she has accomplished, her insight, and intelligence. Oprah has a gving spirit, and a tongue that calls things as they are sans the sugar coating.

I have zero respect for Oprah Winfrey and I have the same respect for the voters of America, simply look at who is in the White House now! This man is the definition of on the job training! The 2 things he had going for him in the 2008 campaign was that every one wanted George Bush out and they fell in love with the idea of a black man in office!

I agree with all she said except perhaps the part about believing in the intelligence of the American people. This last election showed the lack of intelligence in a lot of the votes, basically in the primaries but also in the general. There are far too many people who vote 'party' rather than 'individual' in the general and how some of the candidates in the primaries made it to the general is absolutely mind boggling.

She's pretty AND mean. What a combo. She really should be on Survivor or The Real Housewives of Anchorage – they would be better suited to her nature. The problem is that the American People have gotten really confused about what are important leadership qualities. I guess if you are a fan of one of these reality shows, you think that being devious, disingenuous and good looking are leadership qualities. I guess those qualities might be important if your a living in "survivial of the fittest" society, but I thought we were supposed to be a civilized society. Frankly, I am disgusted that we are still drawn to the ugly qualities that typify Palin's speech and actions.

Her latest jab at Michelle Obama and her stellar efforts to educate children about proper food choices was just what you would expect fro a spiteful, jealous teenager with no self-awareness or compassion.

Oprah cannot really believe what she says can she? Mr. Hope and Change has been a flop who wants to limit how much money she can make and what she is supposed to eat (that may actually help her). And Palin makes it to the CNN site again today - the cnn obsession with her continues.

Here's Sarah Palin's plan in my opinion.

Get selected by moron to run for VP. Lose the election. Quit as Governor to rile up stupid people and get very rich in the process. Create speculation amongst idiots that you may run for President. Have idiot media outlets run stories of your "possible" run. Continue your 15 Minutes and continue getting really rich due to stupid people. Because if you say you won't run you kill your 15 Minutes, you will have to say you will run. When you run, you will cause yourself to continue to look like an imbecile that's in way over her head. You will not get past the initial Republican primaries. Then in order to continue your 15 Minutes, you will announce yourself running as a 3rd party/Tea Party candidate, at the panic of the Rebuplican nominee. You will split the stupid/Republican (no difference) vote and Obama will sail to an even easier victory. And you will have gotten incredibly rich. But when you lose in 2012, your 15 Minutes will end and then I hope people will stop talking about you and you will finally go away or hang around on Fixed News (which I don't ever watch).

But hey, if your stupidity and 15 Minutes help Obama win in 2012, I must say I'm glad you'll be running. Go Stupid Go! ....err...Go Sarah Go!
