A Birthday Party Pour Moi

November 19th, 2010

cake_lady_amandapratt

So today is my birthday and I’m off to do some fabulous shoe shopping, enjoy loads of German food (and beer), hang out with some friends who are visiting from LA, have a dance party, and not do a lick of work. Seriously, I’m even turning email off on my phone. Its gonna be epic. Have a good weekend everyone!

Paper Art, Christmas Cards 2010!

November 18th, 2010

christmascardsmeganvandenbergh

Good morning everyone! Today I want to share with you these Christmas postcards I made for 2010. They are letterpress printed with metal type I set myself, on a really gorgeous, soft, blush pink paper.

christmascardpackmeganvandenbergh

The whole idea is that you can send someone a recipe, or just fill in the blanks with silly things. And you end up saving some money on postage, too, which is pretty nice.

Good news is, I’m selling these on Etsy so you can have some, too, if you’d like!

Real Wedding: Rustic Elegance at Rancho Dos Pueblos

November 17th, 2010

022_041__IM_5467

This wedding was held at the gorgeous Rancho Dos Pueblos, my all time favorite location. Here is the beautiful bride and perhaps the most “wedding planner” moment I’ve ever had; I was the one driving the golf cart to the ceremony site!

047_057__IM_5982

For ceremony, I had a platform built and carpeted to add an elegant touch.

Overhead, Kim at Collage created a simple huppa with gorgeous hydrangea, calla lilies, and yellow roses.

My favorite photo of the couple, taken right after ceremony.

For the escort cards I hung them on an old burnt out tree at Rancho Dos Pueblos’ Casa Grande. Laura Hooper did the elegant calligraphy.

For invitations, Megan used her own handmade paper (yes, handmade!) and created a deckle (torn edge) on the bottom of each part of the invitation. The design was very simple, with a hand drawn Morton Bay Fig Tree flanking the bottom of the invitation. For the hotel insert, she used translucent handmade paper that was gorgeous.

My favorite part of the event design, was uplighting Rancho Dos Pueblos’ huge Morton Bay Fig Trees. Each one is at least 60′ in diameter.

Some of the guests tables with the trees lit behind. For linens, I had runners made of a soft yellow silk set atop dark wood Amalfi tables. It was the perfect blend of “Rustic Elegance.”

For the head table centerpieces of hydrangea, calla lilies, and cymbidium orchids, decorated the table. I also used mercury glass candle holders in two heights to add a touch of silver.

For the bride and groom’s chair, a bunch of roses tied with yellow silk added a romantic touch.

On each place setting, a hemstitch napkin held a letterpress menu that was mounted on a thin piece of wood. One cymbidium was tucked into the napkin as well.

Since the lawn is so large, I used hedging to baffle the lawn and hide the catering kitchen. In front of the hedging, I created a huge bar using Montecito furniture from Town & Country.

In front of the bar, I used Montecito couches mixed with Rococo furniture to create a large lounge area.

Christine Dahl made a simple square tiered cake accented with cymbidiums, was perfectly elegant and understated.

A special thanks to all the vendors who made it possible:

Paper Art, Nik Bresnick

November 11th, 2010

Okay, I’m officially obsessed with Nik’s work.

nikbresnickbittersugarletterpress

I think these hand drawn, yet slightly scientific animal illustrations are totally wonderful. They remind me of something I would see in a biology textbook, but quirkier.

And this owl is ready for a swank holiday party.

Sponsor: Luna Bazaar

November 9th, 2010

turquoise_candle_holders_luna_bazaar

Today, I’m super excited to welcome Luna Bazaar as a sponsor of Santa Barbara Chic. Luna Bazaar has a ton of decor options for wedding and special events. How cute are the cane, greek key, and damask candle holders above?

paper_lanterns_lunabazaar copy

Of course, Luna Bazaar is best know for their impressive selection of paper lanterns. This is just a small snippet of the 60+ colors they offer!

paper_parasols_lunabazaar

And, of course, they offer the same colors in paper parasols. It would be fun to pick three colors and use both the paper lanterns and parasols as part of the event design for your wedding.turquoise_lanterns_luna_bazaar

I’m also loving the variety of lanterns they have. How cute would these be to mix and match for tabletop decor? You can check out more of the fabulous decor at Luna Bazaar right here. Happy shopping!

Inspiration Board: Modern Red & White Stripe

November 8th, 2010

red_white

I love a wedding with a graphic design element and these extra wide red and white stripes are just that. I love the timeless modernism of stripes, plus this color palate just seems so energizing and fun. I picture this wedding taking place at a beach and the ceremony arch would be a take off on this old red and white cabana. The bride would rock some serious red heels and dance the night away.

Description: Red & white stripe, modern, fun, playful

From Paris, with Love & Louboutins

November 3rd, 2010

louboutin5

A very awesome reader, Jinzi, was kind enough to send me these photos of the Louboutin boutique in Paris. She’s currently planning her wedding to be held in the French countryside at an old monastery (try not to be jealous people).

louboutin

Here’s the walkway to the store in an old gallery. I love the floors and the lights!

louboutin2

Onto the shoes, shall we? I love the circus inspired display and these sparkly gold booties would certainly be my pick for a stylish ring master.

louboutin4

Of course, you can never go wrong with a sparkly silver peep toe pump. Thanks Jinzi for sending these in!
