The cat, she has been let out of the bag, and she's carrying detailed information about BioWare's highly anticipated third installment in the Mass Effect series. Not to be filed under rumor, the unintentionally released information about Mass Effect 3 comes straight from Electronic Arts.

Appearing briefly on the EA online store this afternoon before being pulled, Mass Effect 3 was listed as a pre-order item, complete with significant plot details BioWare was no doubt hoping to make a splash with at the Spike TV Video Game Awards tomorrow night. (Yes, we can now confidently say that mystery BioWare game that's been teased is in fact Mass Effect 3.)

"Earth is burning," a synopsis of the game read. "Striking from beyond known space, a race of terrifying machines have begun their destruction of the human race. As Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine, your only hope for saving mankind is to rally the civilizations of the galaxy and launch one final mission to take back the Earth."

Looks like EA was planning to launch the ME3 pre-order page in conjunction with the world premier trailer for the game on tomorrow's VGAs. Our guess is that someone accidently hit "publish."

BERJAYASharkey says: That's a pretty serious gaffe by EA, but now that the info is out there, I've got to say, I'm psyched for ME3. Taking the action to a future version of Earth is a great twist, and I can't wait to see how things play out.
