Handmade Ranch Wedding
This is one of those weddings that makes me miss warm sunny days and itch for a crafty weekend. Kelty of Steep Street Photography captured the relaxed vibe of Kendra and Chris’s wedding perfectly.

From the photographers. Kendra and Chris are high school sweethearts who got married at a ranch in the Santa Cruz mountains this summer. The decorations, setting, clothing, and events were fun and lighthearted with lots of bright colors. The bridesmaids chose their own dresses and colors, there were dahlias everywhere, and the checkered tablecloth and striped decor feel gave the wedding a cozy retro vibe.

They served brats and mustard for appetizers and planted small strawberry plants for each guest as a favor and seating card. The wedding party wore quirky nose/mustache glasses half of the evening and the main building itself made the wedding feel even more like a summer party on a farm or ranch. The bride wore a mermaid-y hoop skirt dress that not many other people could pull off! The evening ended with some raucous dancing in the barn by the pond.

From the bride, Kendra. Chris and I did a lot of projects for the wedding ourselves. It was a ton of fun brainstorming ideas together and seeing the final results on our wedding day. A few of the things we DIYed together include: our invitations and other paper products; sewing our napkins, table runners and yards of fabric bunting and our strawberry plant guest favors (which doubled as seating cards).

We built a photobooth which was a huge hit with our guests and gave us some hilarious pictures! Lastly, we had a cookie table for which we made all of the cookies and brownies for, freezing the dough a month before the wedding and then baking them all off the day before the wedding (with only moderate “quality control” testing along the way).

Autumnal Michigan Wedding
This fall Michigan wedding embodies the cozy romance of the season perfectly. Her shawl and veil are so classic and the decor is spot-on seasonal. Many hands pitched in to make this romantic affair and all the little details add up to a magical, autumnal wedding day.

From the bride. We envisioned a classic vintage-rustic wedding with a cozy feel. I have a lot of respect for the women of the 1930s-1950s, they were always gorgeous, showing off their assets without being sleazy. I didn’t want it to feel like a stuffy formal event, I wanted everyone to feel like they were just in their backyard with a few good friends celebrating.

Vintage, Rustic, Cozy, and classic. We used all fall colors (oranges, reds, wines, browns) to create something vintage, rustic, cozy and classic. My aunt Lori, the creative genius in my family, hand-painted a few signs and our table numbers, as well as painted Mr and Mrs white pumpkins. She also created all of my place cards, he “happily ever after” sign and table numbers were painted on recycled old barn wood.

My mom, sister, and I dried hydrangeas for the ceremony decorations and created the arrangements that hung on the chairs lining the ceremony aisles. My mom also dried apples and put them in my lanterns as decoration.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? 1)Use the INTERNET, this was my saving grace, if I thought of an idea I would google it and try to find similar ideas to use as inspiration or hints so I wasn’t re-writing the book! 2) Try to use local vendors it usually cuts the price dramatically 3) Choose a Master and Mistress of ceremonies that are organized and handle pressure well. They handle and deal with all the stress that day so you don’t have to! I don’t know what I would have done without my aunt and uncle.

Handmade Forest Wedding
A ceremony nestled in amongst the California redwoods? How lovely! Joel Flory sent over this charming wedding with sweet honey bee details all put together by the bride. Be sure to check out the gallery for more images.

From the couple. On the wedding day, we had 70 guests at UC Berkley Botanical Garden. We wanted to have a simple and sweet Garden Wedding that showed off our creative personalities. Having the ceremony in a redwood grove was ideal for us because we both take great pride in the beauty of California. It just seemed like this little magical place.

The reception featured a Cotton Candy Marker, Slushie Machine, and Juke Box. Most of the details kept to a Bee/Honey theme. It was catered by Barbra Llewellyn, and the food was amazing! They also did the cake, which was served with dark chocolate covered honey comb, and a custom Honey flavor ice cream from Tucker’s Ice Cream. The cake topper was made by the Bride and featured special things from the couples’ seven year history.

The wedding dress was made by the bride’s Mom. Janie designed the dress, a gold sequin gown with a romantic cream sheer over the top. The bride made the hair pieces.
