Google Nexus S Debuts With Contour Display and Android 2.3 Gingerbread

It's quite the morning in Mountain View. Earlier this morning, Google debuted its new eBookstore, and then launched the brand-new Nexus S smartphone an hour later. The Samsung device will be running Android 2.3 (dubbed 'Gingerbread'), and packs a curved glass 'Contour Display,' an internal gyroscope, 16 gigabytes of internal storage, and dual cameras (back: 5 megapixels, front: 640x480 resolution). Like its Nexus One predecessor, the Nexus S will be running a stock version of Android, which means it won't have any carrier-installed software or operating system tweaks. The 480x800 AMOLED screen looks great, but we're most interested in the hardware support for NFC (near field communication), an up-and-coming wireless technology that lets you transfer data at a distance of around four inches.

The Nexus S will land in the U.S. on December 16th, available online and at Best Buy, either unlocked or with a T-Mobile plan.
