The group had its roots way back in 1962, when Brian Parrish (vcls, gtr) met Paul Gurvitz (vcls, gtr) in a hairdressing saloon and both eventually formed a group called The Londoners together with Mick Palmer (bs) and one Stan (drms). During 1963 they played a lot on the continent on US bases, occasionally even enlarged by a girl with the name Margie. In spring 1964 they backed Gene Vincent on a tour and later returned to the continent, mainly to Germany. It was February 1965 when they appeared for the first time at the Star Club, Hamburg and Hamburg nearly became their second home over the next two years. It was also in 1965 when they were signed by Pye, but for the records their name was changed to The Knack because it seemed a better name for the British market than The Londoners. However, while appearing in Germany they mostly reverted to the Londoners. With a changing line-up the group was active until the end of 1967 when they emerged into Gun.Notes: For the American market their name was changed to The Lobsters, because there was a second group called The Knack. Paul's father was roadmanager for The Kinks, hence their connections to Larry Page, who produced their first single. As The Londoners the group recorded for the Star Club label.

This CD release (Wet World Records WWIV / 2005) contains their lone (but lame) single as The Londoners as well as their whole output as The Knack. Their first singles were done in a competent Kinks-sized (HA!) Beat while their last two 45's veered towards Psychedelic-Pop. An enjoying release that should have deserved a more elegant artwork (and not this slutty floozie as a cover girl in front of a Punk-Rock spray-paint).
