The singer and actress Jessica Simpson became engaged last Thursday to her boyfriend of six months, former NFL player Eric Johnson, and for the first time since the engagement, Jessica is opening up about how her fiancé popped the question on an exclusive for CBS’s The Early Show.

On the other hand,

“I actually had to sit on his knee I was so shocked,” Jessica said on CBS’s The Early Show, while promoting her new Christmas album.

The Texas native said the Johnson planned the proposal a long time ago, and that he had already discussed it with her parents. Jessica said she first saw the ring after Johnson proposed, but didn’t try it on right away.

“I said yes and we both definitely were teary-eyed. I didn’t even try the ring on until like, five minutes in,” she said with a laugh.

Simpson began dating Eric last May, but has said that former NFL player has become the most important man in her life. “He’s the most special part of my life and my day, the best man in my life. Sorry Dad!” Simpson said of her new fiancé.

However, although everything looks like a fairy tale, some are concerned about Eric’s motives for dating Jessica and now marrying her.

Johnson is basically unemployed and broke, and he probably could not afford the $ 100,000 Neil Lane yellow gold diamond and ruby ring. That’s why Jessica may have bought her own engagement ring.

NFL betting fans should take into consideration that there are six weeks left to finish the NFL regular season and the Atlanta Falcons, the New York Jets, and the New England Patriots are the teams with the best records so far this season 2010, all at 8-2. 

For his part, the divorce between Johnson and his first wife, stylist Keri Johnson, was finalized last October 7th. The NFL free agent has played for the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints until 2008.

Jessica became engaged just days after her ex-husband Nick Lachey popped the question to Vanessa Minnillo, his love of almost five years. Simpson and Nick broke up in 2005 after three years of marriage. However, Jessica insisted the timing of her engagement was a coincidence.
