Here we have the trailer for Mean Girls 2, which is a direct-to-DVD sequel to Mean Girls, but will no doubt distinguish itself from the original, as evidenced by the 20 seconds of footage from the original at the beginning.  I think Godfather Part II used that same strategy.  The only returning cast member so far as I can tell is Tim Meadows, who’s no doubt setting himself up to be this franchise’s Eugene Levy.  Also, I’m pretty sure this is a real drug:

I love this picture so much I want to liquify it and squirt it in my butt with a turkey baster (no homo)

If you asked me what my favorite Christmas movie was, it’d be no contest, because, to my knowledge, there’s only one Christmas movie that features gratuitous use of the word “buttf*ck.”  You might think gratuitous “buttf*cks” and a holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus are contradictory, but only if you’d never met a Catholic girl.  Anyway, according to a recent interview with Billy Bob, a Bad Santa sequel isn’t around out of the realm of possibilities.

Would you ask Tom Petty that question, Collider?

“‘Bad Santa’ [has] become like a classic Christmas movie. People watch ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ and ‘Miracle on 34th St.’ and Bad Santa now is sort of the box set. And there’s been talk of making a sequel to it, which I actually would like to do. I’ve never done a sequel to one of my movies, but that one makes sense to me to do it.”

I’m living proof of that whole first part, I’m just not sure it means a sequel is a good idea.  For one, they already used “Badder Santa” as the title of the unrated version, which means they’d have to call this one Bad 2anta or something.  For another, it just wouldn’t be the same without the real star of Bad Santa, Thurman Merman.  I laughed every single time he was on screen, but that was almost eight years ago.  I imagine he’s turned into Danny Masterson since then, and everyone hates that guy.

Nic Cage is an interesting dude, and not just because he collects dinosaur skulls and speaks to the UN about children eating each other.  He’s been in almost as many of my favorite movies (Adaptation, Herzog’s Bad Lieutenant) as he has my least favorite (anything Jerry Bruckheimer).  This paradox is probably a result of him bringing a level of… energy, and, uh… commitment, that few actors could match. Herzog, while shooting Bad Lieutenant, famously tried to harness Cage’s spazzy energy by keeping him bottled up most of the time, but every now and then telling him to “turn the pig loose,” which I like to imagine led to him socking a make-up girl in the mouth on more than a few occasions.

It goes without saying that Nic Cage’s “Release the Pigs” moments are some of the most bizarrely fascinating in all of cinema, and my plan for Oliver’s follow-up to the Every Arnold Scream Mash Up was a cut of Nic Cage going nuts. Unfortunately, those nerds at Pajiba beat us to it.  Here’s four minutes of Cage releasing the pigs set to the Requiem for a Dream score. In other news, I just got a mental image of Nic Cage in his bear suit from Wicker Man going ass-to-ass with John Travolta, so enjoy that for a few minutes.

Jim Carrey tries to erase the memory of his tumultuous affair with Lobster Dog

At the risk of self-identifying as a huge hipster, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of, if not my favorite movie, the only honest romantic comedy (with the added benefit of no precocious children in sweaters).  Well now it turns out that the procedure that helps you forget painful relationships wasn’t so far-fetched after all.  Oh, Charlie Kaufman, you colossal hack.

Soldiers haunted by scenes of war and victims scarred by violence may wish they could wipe the memories from their minds. Researchers at the Johns Hopkins University say that may someday be possible.
A commercial drug remains far off — and its use would be subject to many ethical and practical questions. But scientists have laid a foundation with their discovery that proteins can be removed from the brain’s fear center to erase memories forever.
“When a traumatic event occurs, it creates a fearful memory that can last a lifetime and have a debilitating effect on a person’s life,” says Richard L. Huganir*, professor and chair of neuroscience in the Hopkins School of Medicine. He said his finding on the molecular process “raises the possibility of manipulating those mechanisms with drugs to enhance behavioral therapy for such conditions as post-traumatic stress disorder.”

Excuse me, doc?  I saw The Last Airbender and I’ve had post-traumatic wank syndrome (PTWS) ever since.

You can tell he's cool because the chocolate bunnies let him hang out.

Here’s the first poster for Hop (formerly “I Hop“), from the director of Alvin and the Chipmunks, starring James Marsden and the voice of Russell Brand. Russell Brand voices the Easter Bunny, but definitely not your grandpa’s Easter Bunny, with his boring old eggs and fruity pastel sweaters.  The kids today, with their rock group videos and their hippity hop music, will really go nuts for this Easter Bunny, which you can tell by his headphones, drumsticks, and short-sleeve shirt over long-sleeve shirt, and the relaxed attitude he takes towards work, as if to say, “Who cares? It’s only fashion.”

From the creators of Despicable Me comes Hop, the comic tale of Fred (James Marsden), an out-of-work slacker who accidentally injures the Easter Bunny (voiced by Russell Brand) and must take him in as he recovers. In theaters April 1, 2011! [Official Synopsis via BleedingCool]

Ha, an out-of-work slacker, classic!  But where are his sunglasses?  NOW how am I supposed to know if he’s cool?

Here’s the trailer for Source Code, starring Jake Yillinhoolahey and Michelle Monaghan, directed by Duncan Jones, previously of Moon (aka David Bowie’s son, Zowie — seriously).  The one-sentence concept?  In a Quantum Leap-esque conceit, soldier Jake Gyllenhaal can trade places with any other person and relive the last eight minutes of their life.  To catch a terrorist, he trades places with a guy who died in a train explosion. He has eight minutes to save the world, but Jake being Jake, he bangs the guy’s girlfriend first.
