The New Cast of The Great Gatsby

Meet Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan

It’s official! Another remake of The Great Gatsby is in the work…One of my favourite (Australian) directors, Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, Romeo & Juliet) has announced today that Carey Mulligan will play the starring role as Daisy Buchanan in his adaptation of the Great Gatsby.

Lurhmann says: “I was privileged to explore the character with some of the world’s most talented actresses, each one bringing their own particular interpretation, all of which were legitimate and exciting,” Luhrmann told Deadline. “However, specific to this particular production of ‘The Great Gatsby,’ I was thrilled to pick up the phone an hour ago to the young Oscar-nominated British actress Carey Mulligan and say to her: ‘Hello, Daisy Buchanan.’”

We know the story is good, acting should be very good and WITHOUT A DOUBT the costumes and the sets will make this film exciting to see…and the fact that beautiful and talented Carey Mulligan will play the role of Daisy Buchanan together with Leonardo DiCaprio (who has worked with Luhrmann before in Romeo & Juliet). Though I’m not certain if DiCaprio has been ‘officially’ cast for this role? However, I think it’s going to be a brilliant film and I’m really looking forward to it…till next year I guess? Do  you think you’ll be going to see this film in the cinema?

BERJAYABERJAYANope, never had the desire to want a deer head or any hunting trophy to mount on my wall. But knowing that no animals were harmed making this project…it’s worth talking about it! At least I l believe its animal friendly?! It should be safe! Please let me know if I’m wrong?

Nottingham based artist Donya Coward works with different craft media such as textiles, trims, beading, hand-stitching to create animal sculpture. The first two photos are from here previous exhibition ‘Veggie Taxidermy’ in the Paul Smith Westbourne House shop.

At the moment she now has a new collection which features portraits of different dog breeds. Here she combines textiles with crochet and knit and beading…:I love her cute dog series and her very detail, delicate work…I’m curious what other animal lovers think of her work?

…no animals were harmed

Jellyfish floating in the sky…

16 Nov

Crazy but beautiful work by Chinese Artist Zhou Fan…: A series of my paintings is based on dreams that I had as a child of many many jellyfish floating in the sky, some of which fell to the ground on parachures and became mushrooms. These dreams had a strong impact on me, and I remember them vividly. Somehow I feel that it is easier to focus on dreams than reality….” Zhou Fan

Dark side of the lens

15 Nov

Hands down one of the most awe-inspiring short surf film I’ve seen! You don’t need to be a surfer to appreciate this film. It’s for everyone, anyone who loves the sea, loves mother nature. The cinematography is breath-taking, it’s like poetry in motion…

new to the paper lantaner tradition

14 Nov

BERJAYA

I honestly never heard of St. Martin Day celebrated 11 November, until after living in Holland for a few years. And still then, it’s not that popular for Dutch people. Also my partner is not religious, so he didn’t grow up with the saintly tradition. It’s popular in the north part of Holland and definitely more so in Germany….:The idea is for kids to make a unique hand paper lanterns, get together with all the other kids (and parents) and come knocking on your door and sing to you some St. Martin songs. In return you give them lollies (candy).

Fortunately, this year I was prepared and bought enough sweets to supply because a few years back i got a suprise when i opened the front door and had no clue why children were singing to me!. Anyway, the mum’s around my neighbour organized the night for their kids, which i think is really sweet since not all parents take part…Though the weather that night got everyone talking, it was incredibly WINDY and raining cats and dogs! Luckily that didn’t stop the mum’s on our neighbourhood to go out in that type of wether with their very enthusiastic kiddies…: I think of St. Martin Day, Halloween in Holland without the dress-up costumes. Instead, kids make a unique paper lantern and sing to you, in for hope to recive something sweet, more lollies than they can eat in one go!. Either way, its a fun tradition.BERJAYA BERJAYA

Art Under the Stars

9 Nov

Photos from Friday night of the first Museum Night in Delft. It was a windy, wet and very fun birthday night out. Manage to see so many art galleries in one night, that i didn’t even know existed here!…: Though the ride on the boat and the tuk-tuk along the canals was probably my highlight of the night….

When I think of November, I think of spring, Jacaranda Tree and celebrating my Birthday! Around this time of the year the stunning Jacaranda Tree begins to blossom…and by the end of the season its spread over the grass, streets looking like a purple carpert….but it’s not like that here – no tropical trees like the Jacaranda…orange yellow Autumn Trees is what i see instead…it’s a windy, colder birthday than i hoped…but a very exciting and very cultural night ahead of me!
