Shadow of a Tour Guide, Pompeii
We visited Pompeii on a brilliant, sunny day, with not a cloud in the sky. Every tour guide there was carrying an umbrella, doing double duty as a rallying point as well as a welcome source of shade.

Tung Chung, Hong Kong
This picture of a junk in front of the high-rise apartment buildings of Tung Chung was taken from the Ngong Ping Cable Car. (Those of you who are familiar with my feelings about heights can imagine my reaction to spending 25 minutes suspended hundreds of meters in the air in a transparent box, but at least I got one good shot from it.)
The juxtaposition of modern and traditional was one of the most striking things about Hong Kong – I think this picture does a good job of capturing that.

Giant's Causeway, Northern Ireland
The Giant’s Causeway is impressive from a distance, but it isn’t until you get up close that you can see all the intricate details, and how perfectly the hexagonal basalt columns fit together.
(You can see more of my pictures of the Giant’s Causeway here .)

Bungee, London
This picture was taken at what, to all appearances, looked like a small country show, except that it was right in the centre of London (behind St Paul’s Cathedral). I’m not sure what the occasion was, but the Bungee Trampoline looked like a blast!
Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving to those of you in the US!

Ghost Gum, Central Australia
This picture was taken in Ormiston Gorge, in the West MacDonnell Ranges, Central Australia.

Poppy, Floriade
It’s been a while since I’ve posted more of the Floriade abstract macro series, so here’s another Poppy picture. This was shot looking up from underneath, with the sun illuminating the petals from within.

The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, National Air and Space Museum, Washington D.C.
Children play in the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Centre, part of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. Not only are the exhibits themselves impressive (counting among their number the space shuttle Enterprise and the SR-71 Blackbird), but the architecture isn’t too shoddy either, in an industrial kind of way.
(Note to anyone planning a visit – if you are trying to get there via public transport, allow plenty of time!)

Gamblers, Sha Tin Racecourse, Hong Kong
Engrossed in the form guide, gamblers wait for the start of the next race at Sha Tin Racecourse, Hong Kong.
