I’m listening to Cascada now - oh shush, I don’t need any lecturing on my music taste, I listen to good stuff too! - and it has, as always, put me in an excellent writing mood.  Anyway, you can’t say it’s not amusing and fun and bouncy, and you know amusing and fun and bouncy is totally my thing.

Speaking of music tastes, though, I’ve made a sort of half-hearted attempt to listen to less mediocre stuff lately: more U2, less Sugarcult. I don’t know much about music and don’t know exactly what’s good and what’s not, but I have a vague idea of what’s pretty mediocre and I’ve been trying to avoid it. I don’t have to listen to great stuff all the time, but still —

Life has been incredibly exhilarating lately, picturesque and amusing and occasionally frustrating but often loads of fun. A moment ago, Clara’s incredibly obnoxious forced, fake, ridiculously loud shout-ey laughter was stuffing up the airwaves, but now it’s quiet. A few minutes ago, Madeleine was lecturing Elliot for his politically incorrect version of When You Give A Pig A Pancake: When You Give An Obese Person A BigMac. I’m supposed to write sixteen random or weird or little-known things about myself and while I’m no good at those, I’ll try! Here goes.

1. I always order the same thing at Chile’s - Cajun Chicken Pasta. It’s VERY good. You should try it.

2. I always have the same thing for my birthday cake - trifle. It’s almost as good as Cajun Chicken Pasta.

3. When I turned 12 or 13 Kira came for my birthday and watched me open my presents. Almost the only things I got that year were Shakespeare plays and biographies. She was appalled.

4. My music tastes almost always surprise people. Someone who looks like me listening to Avril Lavigne, Cascada, and Green Day? Heaven forbid! Read the rest of this entry »

I could make that look SO good

My word. I told y’all I have a terrible sense of humor. This just proves it even further. My mom picked up Elliot’s model Trojan Horse (the wooden kind of Trojan Horse, not the viral kind) to show it off to the family, and I remarked oh-so-wittily, “There’s something sneaky about that horse.” I’m a hopeless case.

I would really like to know why it is that I have all the awesome things in the world to write about all day long and just when I sit down with some time and relative peace and quiet, I can’t think of a single thing. It’s extremely aggravating, really.

The other day, I started sorta scribbling away while I was doing math. I amused myself by writing a very unpoetic poem, the kind that should be recited spontaneously all the time and written in your journal with a long, laughing commentary at the end. Read the rest of this entry »
