A McAdams Surge in Alaska?

It has been a while since we have seen polling out of Alaska, and some of the polling we have seen leaves much to desire given that it gives voters the name of write-in Republican Lisa Murkowski (which won't be the case on election day).

But we can still get a sense of where the race stands by the strategic decisions being made by the campaigns. And right now, Murkowski is shifting her attention from her scandal-prone GOP rival Joe Miller to Democrat Scott McAdams. Here's Murkowski's latest ad:

If Murkowski weren't worried McAdams was gaining on her as Miller gets mired down, she wouldn't be running this spot. It's that simple. What's more, internal polling released to Daily Kos by a Democratic source close to the McAdams campaign seems to confirm the intuition, showing that McAdams may be eating away at Murkowski's soft support.

So while it would be great to see some public polling on this race -- particularly in wake of all of the revelations about Miller -- the data points we can see suggest that this is a real race.
