Cocteau's "Beauty and the Beast"
Long, long before Disney, the French poet and artist Jean Cocteau made a great film of the legend of the Beauty and the Beast. Surrealistic, haunted and dreamlike, it includes startling images. You will have to decide for yourself which of the living candelabra you prefer, Cocteau's or Disney's. This full-length online presentation is free and legal.
This video is based on the magnificent Criterion edition. Embedded here is a five-minute preview. For the full feature, you'll have to watch an ad. A small price to pay. For better sound and picture, I recommend the DVD itself.
