Party of No, maybe they are on to something
The Crime of Living | The Freeman | Ideas On Liberty.
We have too many laws in America. I will give stats in a moment, just bear with me. We have laws and regulations for anything you can imagine. Yet, the main complaint from the left, and some on the right, about the tea party is, they don’t have specifics about what legislation they would pass to fix all these problems they complain about. That’s correct, but does that make the tea party’s message invalid?
If the tea party is against big government, how is that purpose served by making more laws? The United States has been around for 234 years, and in that time we have racked up an enormous amount of federal laws and regulations, add in the states and it is even more ridiculous. From the above article:
From 2000 to 2007 Congress added 452 new federal crimes to the 4,450 already in effect and the roughly 300,000 regulations that can be enforced criminally.
Note, the article says criminally. It does not include what civil regulations there are. The fact is, I don’t think anyone actually knows how many laws we have in the United State. Now think about that for a second. How are we, as citizens of the United States, supposed to follow the law, when the government is so big it doesn’t even know how many laws we have to follow?
For poops and giggles, I did a little fun searching (you should try it) at the Government Accountability Office’s web-site on the Federal Register, that is the regulations that everyone must live under that are passed by congress, the executive legislation is in a different book. The current database contains 28,186 documents for a total of 49,501,529 words.
Thinking about opening an aquarium? That word shows up 59 times in 41 documents. How about selling cigarettes, or hell, just smoking them. 228 times, 63 documents. You get the idea.
I can not stress enough, this is just legislative branch regulations at the federal level. This does not include all the regulations from all the czars, and bureaus and executive orders, and then do it again for your state, then again for your county. We live in a country where it is statistically impossible to live your whole life without actually breaking the law. (prove I am wrong, learned that trick from Pelosi)
So tea party candidates can’t answer the supposedly easy question about what legislation they would pass if elected, I think it says more about our government than it does about them. Looking at how many laws we have, plus how many more progressives want to pass, I think being the Party of No is just about right.
UN sets new bar for hypocrisy
The Press Association: Outcry over Iran’s human rights bid.
I no longer want liberals to complain about my hate of the UN. This story should be enough evidence they are completely off-the-shelf crazy.
If you are unaware, apparently Iran and Saudi Arabia are making bids to be members of the governing body of the new “UN Women” agency to promote equal rights for women around the world. It would be laughable if it wasn’t so transparent.
Does anyone now question the goals of Islam? These two countries, known the world over for their anything but equal treatment of women, are trying to legitimize Sharia Law’s view of women by a membership on an agency designed to promote equality. Can you see the CAIR argument of the future, “How can you say Islam treats women unfairly, Saudi Arabia and Iran are both members of the UN Women agency for female equality? I reject this false attack on the peaceful religion of Islam.”
In Iran’s view, stoning a woman to death for infidelity is standard operating procedure. I recently wrote an article about Saudi Arabia where a judge ordered that a women could not marry the man she chose because her father didn’t approve. Those are just off the top of my head, I don’t believe I need to belabor the point by researching and listing more instances, which would be numerous.
I used to think the UN were hypocrites for allowing Angola, China, Libya and Uganda to be on the Human Rights Council (ok, I still think they are) but this takes the cake.
If the UN approves of Iran’s and Saudi Arabia’s membership, this should be the last straw for the camel’s back that is America’s tolerance for this ineffectual, hypocritical, non-sensical world governing body that couldn’t enforce a sanction if they actually wanted to.
To sum up America’s scathing rebuke to the ridiculous request by these women hating countries, Mark Kornblau, spokesman for the US Mission, said Iran’s membership “would send the wrong signal at the start of this exciting new initiative”.
Nothing says standing up for women like an effete response to a country of wife-beaters. Way to tell him how we really feel Mark!
Maybe China isn’t so bad after all
Chinese city wardens wanted: must be young, female and pretty | World news | guardian.co.uk.
I don’t have a lot of nice things to say about China, maybe their history makes a good bad drop for movies, but generally speaking they suck big time. But I have to give them credit, if this story is the beginning of a “New China”, then I am on board.
Here is a quote from a recent advertisement from the Xindu district government:
candidates must be female, aged between 18 and 23, over 5ft 2in (1.6m) tall, attractive and with a good temperament. Their contracts will end when they turn 26.
Is the government hiring for some nationalized version of Hooters? Hey, I’m not complaining, I think this kind of misogyny is healthy. I love to play mental games with unintended consequences, lets see where this would go if it happened in America.
I think sexual harassment by civilians towards law enforcement would increase greatly, Phillies Fans and NJ Dirtbags just would not be able to help themselves. I believe it would usher in a crime-wave of unfathomable proportions as men just “wanted to get her digits”. Unlawful shootings would show a threefold increase as female cops who look like a porn-fantasy would over-react to the advances of “The Situation”. In fact, the situation will become the default name for any scumbag thinking he can talk up one of our babes in blue. Dispatcher calls frequently will start with, “We have a situation here.” Translation, we have a douche posing as a Russian gangster here…he won’t stop showing his bare-chest, ewwww he’s all oily!
There is a plus side to all this. The police fashion industry will get a much-needed stimulus, it has been in the dumpster since Cagney and Lacey. Form fitting uniforms and bullet-proof vests with more “breathing room” will be quickly called for and provided.
I don’t think its a bad idea at all, but the ending of their contracts at age 26 is a little sad. I guess the Xindu province perv…ahem, government likes its ladies young. I will let them tell us:
“And when they get older, they will get married and have children so it will not be convenient for them to do such work. Having them leave at 26 is for their sake.”
Ahh, it’s for their sake, these guys only care about the “ladies”. A strong and vocal opponent to this hiring, Xing Li Steinem had this to comment:
This worn-out thinking has no room in society if China is going to move forward in the 21st century. To suggest women will get married and have children at 26 is absurd and insulting. We at the Beijing Organization of Women (BOW) believe women should be allowed to work until at least 28 before they get married and make babies. To suggest they do it two years earlier shows the antiquated thinking of many men in our government.
This is not the first instance of a Chinese provincial government having beauty requirements, Hunan province, until 2004, had a requirement for female applicants to have “symmetrical breasts”. Thank god China is leading the charge to prevent the gainful employment of women with awkward boobs. (man, two days in a row I have been able to fit boobs into a post)
China is changing folks, we better watch out. Unless we can quickly change to match them, then our pretty ladies will have to resort to less desirable jobs like Fox News Anchor or Tea Party Candidate.

Unions fight to stamp out ugliness
Buffalo, N.Y. Teachers Spend $9M in Taxpayer Cash in ’09 on Cosmetic Surgery – FoxNews.com.
Unions have officially taken the top-spot, surpassing the Federal Government, in my list of “who is most trying to ruin my country”. First they don’t have to pay tolls, next they fire a guy for being proud of his son, and now, they bilk taxpayers for cosmetic surgery. (thought I was gonna say boobs there didn’t you?)
Apparently, part of the teacher’s union contract for the Buffalo school district includes elective procedures for cosmetic surgery. Things like chemical peels, skin treatments, and oh hell, why not, boob jobs. They love it so much, they got $9 million worth of procedures in 2009 alone. Must be some ugly teachers in Buffalo.
And they must be the only ugly people in Buffalo, because of the 500 procedures done in the district last year, 90% were by school employees or their dependents, for a total of, $18,000 per person. I am required to make a retraction here – Teachers in Buffalo are not ugly, they are really ugly.
In defense of the costs:
The president of the Buffalo Teachers Federation said the union has agreed to give up the benefit in the next contract and said teachers may be simply rushing to use the benefit while they can.
This is the opposite of what Barbara Smith, the district’s CFO, claims the union said last spring:
Smith told the newspaper that the issue of the rider came up during the district’s budget talks last spring.
“We asked the unions to forgo the cosmetic surgery rider for one year, so we could use the money to reduce the number of layoffs,” she told the newspaper. “They weren’t interested.”
So let me get this straight, chemical peels are more important than union jobs? With friends like union bosses, who needs evil greedy corporations?

gulfnews : Five-year-old Khalid pops the question to Hala, three.
Ah young love. All right spoil sports, really insanely absolutely creepy young love. Hey but don’t judge, their parents said they have to wait a decade. So by my math that means Khalid will be 15 and Hala will be 13, ohhhh, that’s much better.
Just so you don’t go all crazy on Syria, take a little looky at this:
The state with the lowest marriage age is New Hampshire, which allows 13-year-old girls and 14-year-old boys to marry although parents can annul their children’s marriages until the children reach 18, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
New Hampshire has just replaced West Virgina as my “most f’d up state in the union”. Congratulations.
Al Gore and James Cameron better watch their backs
The moral conundrum of being an environmentally conscious hedge fund manager must be difficult. On the one hand, you oppose the repeal of California’s Global Warming Solutions Act, on the other you are beholden to your shareholders to actually make money. That is the predicament in which Thomas Steyer finds himself as the upcoming elections in California draw near.
Thomas Steyer is the manager of the hedge fund Farallon Capital Management. He is also the largest contributor to committees campaigning against Proposition 23, donating $2.5 million to the cause.
Some history behind the bills in question are in order. The Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32) was passed by California with the goal of returning California to the global warming gasses emission levels of 1990 by the year 2020. Some of the measures to help achieve this goal are green cars, green buildings, the renewable electricity standard, oh, and a cap-and-trade program. That’s right, California is on a time-line to implement a cap-and-trade program set to start in 2012.
Proposition 23, a ballot initiative, will freeze The Global Warming Solutions Act until the unemployment rate in California drops below 5.5% for 4 consecutive quarters. The current unemployment rate in California is 12%. The proponents of the initiative rightly asserting the deleterious effects of environmental legislation on the economy and thusly on jobs.
So Mr. Steyer is dropping some major coin to stop proposition 23, but he does this in the face of some of the larger holdings in his hedge fund, like Carrizzo Oil, Energy Partners LTD. (an oil company focused on drilling in the gulf), and Freightcar America.
On the other hand, his hedge fund has much more substantial holdings in companies like Yingli Solar, a Chinese solar panel production company. Or Millipore, a company that builds air quality measurement devices. Those two companies alone are the #1 and #3 largest holdings respectively.
So is he just doing what he does best, hedging his bets? Maybe, but I will point to one more holding that should drive this man’s hypocrisy home. MSCI Inc. provides research on numerous things including Climate Risk Management, advocating among other things, socially responsible investing.
I think Mr. Steyer would fail the test for socially responsible investing. Just another environmental hypocrite in the hen-house. Watch out Al Gore and James Cameron, you guys have an up-and-comer nipping at your heels.
