Gwyneth Paltrow Has the CMA Awards Jitters

    Gwyneth PaltrowGetty Images

When Gwyneth Paltrow took on the starring role opposite Tim McGraw in the upcoming film, 'Country Strong,' she knew that portraying a fallen country star trying to resurrect her career would require a lot of singing. But that didn't faze the Oscar-winning actress. She's actually sung before on the silver screen -- a duet cover of Smokey Robinson's, 'Cruisin'' with Huey Lewis in the 2000 film, Duets, and a cover of the Kim Carnes classic, 'Bette Davis Eyes' on the same soundtrack. The actress also sang 'What is This Thing Called Love' in the 2006 film, Infamous. So when Gwyneth discovered how much singing was involved in 'Country Strong,' she wasn't only up for it -- she was inspired to prove her singing chops.

"I want the things that I focus on to pose real challenges, and that will kind of make me stretch in all directions, so that when I come home, I'll feel fulfilled," Gwyneth tells CMT. "When I saw how much singing there was, I thought, I'm up for this challenge. And I was really excited to study country music and fall in love with it in the process."

Montgomery Gentry Build a Playground in Kentucky

Montgomery Gentry's Troy Gentry and Eddie Montgomery got in some manual labor this week, building a playground at Booker T. Washington Academy in Lexington, Ky. The the pair teamed with Kaboom! for the project, which is part of their 2010 Academy of Country Music/The Home Depot Humanitarian award.

"It's a little embarrassing for us," Troy said upon receiving the honor. "We feel like we're being put in the spotlight. There are are so many great artists in this format that do so many great things for so many people throughout the year. To be spotlighted is very humbling and very much an honor, but kind of embarrassing at the same time."

"Thanks to everyone out there who has helped us to get where we are today," Eddie Montgomery followed up. "We just want to make sure we do our part in making the world a little better."

Tracy Lawrence will be holding his 5th annual 'Mission Possible' Turkey Fry at the Nashville Rescue Mission Tuesday, November 24. With just a handful of friends and five fryers in 2006, Tracy hit his goal of frying 100 turkeys and getting more than 800 birds donated during the first year of the event. Over the past four years, Mission Possible has provided 32,592 meals for the homeless and funds raised for the Nashville Rescue Mission have exceeded $50,000.

This year, Tracy will be joined by several friends and celebrities, including Brad Arnold of 3 Doors Down, Lorrie Morgan, the LoCash Cowboys, Burns & Poe, the Titans Cheerleaders and GAC-TV's Suzanne Alexander, among many others.

"My job at home during the holidays is to deep-fry all of the turkeys for our gatherings," Tracy told The Boot. "I decided that I could take something that I enjoy doing and turn it into an awareness campaign for the Mission. My experience in getting to know the works of the Nashville Rescue Mission made me want to help. It made me want to work to increase public awareness of the Mission and to support its efforts and those of its workers and its volunteers."

Blackberry Smoke frontman Charlie Starr says the band members will never be the same after their September concert at Fort Jackson, S.C.

"The show that night was one of the most amazing events I've never been lucky enough to be part of," Charlie tells The Comet. "Looking out from the stage, I saw about 15,000 soldiers to my left and 15,000 civilians to my right ... It was [unbelievably] powerful. Anybody who wouldn't be moved by such a thing can kiss our collective a**."

One unexpected bonus of the evening was a plaque presentation by the installation's leaders to the band.

Blake Shelton Reveals Opry Induction Celebration Plans

    BERJAYAWarner Music Nashville

Blake Shelton's career was forever changed September 28, when he was invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. The message was sent via Twitter, but brought to Blake's attention on the Opry stage by his 'Hillbilly Bone' duet partner, Trace Adkins. The evening, which marked the reopening of the Opry House following the devastation left by May's flood, is significant to Blake for both reasons.

"Not only was it a big deal for me to perform at the rebirth of the Grand Ole Opry, but to be asked to be the newest member made it that more special," Blake tells The Boot. "I immediately called my mom, my dad, my sister and then Larry and Carole Large, who are a couple of people who helped me get started in the music industry. They all live back in Oklahoma, so I said, 'I'm going to hire a separate tour bus that's going to leave Nashville come and pick y'all up and bring you to the induction.' I wanted it to be a reflection on all the way back when I was 14, learning how to play the guitar. These people were the ones who were around me as my support team. I want them all to be there that night."
