OHD-28: OEC Calls for Investigation On Dirty Democrat Ad
Release:
UPDATE: Exit Question: Will the Enquirer (or any other 527 Media outlet in this state for that matter)EVER report on Connie Pillich's lies???
COLUMBUS–The Ohio Elections Commission has ruled unanimously in a lawsuit filed against the Ohio Democratic Party (ODP), which was in response to a campaign mailer slandering House candidate Mike Wilson. Specifically, the mailers falsely claim that Wilson wants to cut funding for police and safety forces.I saw that ridiculous ad on Fox19 again this morning. Still ticks me off that these people are lying like this, but that's what Democrats do...
The elections complaint was filed by military veteran Chris Hammond, who contested numerous slanderous statements by the ODP. The suit states that House Bill 400, the bill in question, does not provide which programs would be streamlined if the income tax is phased out. The bipartisan probable cause panel voted 3-0 that there was reason to believe that the ODP had lied in this statement about Mike Wilson.
Additionally, the Ohio Elections Commission yesterday ruled unanimously that there is probable cause to believe that the Ohio House Democratic Caucus made false accusations in a televised campaign ad slandering Wilson. Specifically, the television ad claims that Wilson wants to cut programs that assist military veterans.
“The reason why Connie Pillich and her supporters are airing these false ads is that they are trying to misdirect from their own poor record,” said Wilson. “Connie Pillich voted to raise taxes on all Ohioans including our veterans, our seniors and our families. Additionally, she cut state funding to our schools. Based on that track record, I can assure veterans, seniors and families that they will get better treatment from me than they got from Pillich.”
The Ohio House Republican Organizational Committee called for an end to the false attacks from Democrats.
“The desperate claims against Mike Wilson are ludicrous, and Connie Pillich and her supporters should cease and desist any further airing of such attacks,” said Ohio House Republican Organizational Committee director Mike Dittoe. “Mike Wilson has long been an advocate of our state’s first responders like police and firefighters. This desperate attempt to once again skew House Bill 400 is the same, tired scheme from the tired Democratic playbook.”
The Ohio Elections Commission will now have a full hearing on the issue at a later date. If an ad is found in violation of state law, the Ohio Elections Committee can refer the matter for criminal prosecution or assess other penalties.
UPDATE: Exit Question: Will the Enquirer (or any other 527 Media outlet in this state for that matter)EVER report on Connie Pillich's lies???

Elections Commission Rules Against Ohio Democratic Party AGAIN
Release:
COLUMBUS—The Ohio Elections Commission today ruled that the smear campaign launched by the Ohio Democratic Party (ODP) against State Rep. Todd Snitchler (R-Uniontown) is false. The ruling discredited a mailer comparing Snitchler to an image of a rat, which claimed that he was investigated three times in election-law violations and that he wrongly claimed to have held a leadership position in the Ohio General Assembly.
“I’m pleased by the ruling today, but it’s still very disappointing that a lawsuit had to occur to stop such a heinous character assault,” said Ohio House Republican Organizational Committee Director Mike Dittoe. “It is this sort of dirty political tactic that has made people resentful of politics and politicians. In my opinion, the ODP proved that they are deceitful and untrustworthy—neither of which the people of Ohio want in the Statehouse.”
The elections complaint was filed by North Canton resident Elizabeth Griffing, who contested numerous slanderous statements by the ODP. After a unanimous vote by the probable cause panel, the Ohio Elections Commission voted that these claims are, in fact, false and in violation of Ohio elections law.
“I believe that justice was upheld today,” said Griffing. “The Ohio Democratic Party has resorted to dirty politics to tarnish the reputation of a father, small business owner and genuinely concerned Ohio citizen, and they should be held accountable for resorting to dishonest politics.”

Strickland Raised Our Taxes
...but don't take my word for it, check out what PolitiFact has to say:
And, yes, he did it with the help of a few Senate RINOs like Harris and Niehaus...and their betrayal won't be forgotten either.
Those who owed the state after filing their 2009 taxes, owed a little bit extra thanks to Strickland’s tax freeze. Strickland’s decision cost a family of four earning $60,000 a year about $78 last year.Remember this the next time some liberal lies to you and says that Ted Strickland didn't raise your taxes because he most certainly did raise your taxes.
Strickland prides himself on having made tough decisions in rough economic times. One of those decisions was postponing the income tax cut which meant taking money out of the pockets of Ohioans.
But while the freeze is expected to be lifted next year, there are no guarantees that will happen in what is still a rough economic landscape for Ohio. And state taxpayers, who had to pay more in income taxes than what had been promised, may continue to pay at the higher rate.
We rate Kasich’s statement Mostly True.
And, yes, he did it with the help of a few Senate RINOs like Harris and Niehaus...and their betrayal won't be forgotten either.

OHD-28: OEC Says Pillich Cut School Funding
Release:
COLUMBUS—The Ohio Elections Commission today found that the House Democratic Caucus had no probable cause in a lawsuit, which was filed in response to a campaign mailer and that the complaint had no merit. The mailer asserted that Reps. Connie Pillich and Nancy Garland voted to cut state school funding by $32 million, a figure that the Democratic Caucus claims is false. However, the panel found that there is no probable cause to believe that the literature contained false statements.
“I’m very pleased with the panel’s ruling today,” said Ohio House Republican Organizational Committee chairman Matt Huffman (R-Lima). “Although the Democratic Caucus attempted to distract from their candidates’ records by filing frivolous elections complains, the truth and facts were verified by the panel’s decision, they did in fact cut state funding to Ohio schools."
The House Democratic Caucus Fund filed the lawsuit against the Ohio Republican Party. The bipartisan probable cause panel of the Ohio Elections Commission voted unanimously that the lawsuit on behalf of Reps. Pillich and Garland was without merit, lending validity to the claims against their records on cutting state school funding."
“With this ruling, I hope that the Ohio Democratic Caucus will start answering for their voting records, rather than hiding behind the politics of distraction,” Huffman said.

Former St. Rep. Young Receives “For Good Government Award”
Release:
Mentor, OH—The United Conservatives of Ohio (UCO) has awarded former State Rep. Ron Young (R-Mentor) the “For Good Government Chairman’s Award” today for “spearheading a successful effort in 2002, to protect taxpayers from income tax increases resulting from inflationary impacts of bracket creep,” wrote UCO Chairman Ron Amstutz in a letter to Young.
Bracket creep is the tendency for individuals’ incomes to creep into a higher tax bracket because of nominal increases in income, even when the real value of that income has not increased. The periodic adjustment of tax brackets for inflation is known as “indexing,” which is designed to prevent bracket creep from occurring.
“I am honored and humbled to be recognized for this effort,” said Young. “Lawmakers should always strive to improve state government and minimize the impact on the taxpayers, and I think that my efforts to introduce legislation in 2002 provided that vital step.”
The income tax indexing provision was ultimately enacted in 2002 as an amendment to a budget measure and was scheduled to begin in 2005. However, House Bill 66 of the 126th General Assembly delayed the indexing until 2010. When unveiled again in August of this year, the Ohio Department of Taxation lauded this measure as “a move that will save Ohioans an estimated $25 million annually starting with the returns due next spring.”

OHD-28: Pillich (D) is PRO-Tax, Calls Press Conference to Prove It?
Statement from Hamilton County GOP Chairman Alex:
"The latest political stunt by Rep. Pillich regarding a mysterious $100 bill supposedly mailed on her behalf can only leave voters in the 28th House District scratching their heads about the type of legislator she is and the type of campaign she is running. This afternoon, Rep. Pillich called a press conference to announce major, breaking, and critical information to the public and to her constituents. Allegedly, someone wrote a letter with a $100 cash donation to the opponents of a tax levy campaign claiming the donation came from her and according to news reports, it mysteriously ended up in Pillich's mailbox instead of at its intended recipient. How convenient. Ms. Pillich then notified the press and attempted to make this a campaign issue. She also contacted the police department.Alex is right. This is a wacky stunt and the amazing thing is that it doesn't help her cause at all either.
"In a universe where Pillich has left many of us scratching our heads at her decision-making for two years, today's conspiratorial allegations have reached bizarre proportions-even for her. If one is to believe Ms. Pillich's assertion, someone tried to set her up as being anti-tax by pretending to be her and making it seem like she was against a tax levy and then conveniently sent her the supposed evidence. Wouldn't that be a stretch for a liberal Democrat?
"If one were to believe that Mike Wilson had anything to do with this, one would have to believe that Mr. Wilson hopes to paint Ms. Pillich as a person opposed to additional taxes. What planet does Ms. Pillich reside upon?
This bizarre, silly antic by Ms. Pillich and her supporters is exactly why we need serious change in the 28th House District."

Check out his latest blog entry for the whole story, but after learning that the DCCC has pulled funding for Driehaus, this is the lesson Chabot relays:
So there you have it. The election’s over, right? We’ve got it in the bag. Uh, NO. We’ve got three more weeks of hard work to do. No one rests. No getting complacent. Confidence, yes. Overconfidence, no.The game is still on...let's run up the score!
Let’s face it, it all comes down to which candidate gets the most votes BY Election Day, Tuesday, November 2nd, exactly 20 days from today. And although most of the votes will actually be cast on Election Day, up to 40% of the votes could be cast during the 35 day period before the election, between September 28th and November 2nd. In Ohio votes can cast by absentee ballot, or one can go to the Board of Elections at 824 Broadway.

HALF of those polled said they need more information just to determine whether or not Justin was a viable candidate. A plurality (34%) already know that he isn't.
But the biggest news of this poll shows that Boehner wins 30.4% to 19.6% in a poll where Boehner has an Unfavorable Rating of 59% while 94% of these people are definitely going to be voting!
Oh, and Carl Weiser of the Enquirer, don't think I missed seeing you gush on this poll too...

OH-01: National Right to Life Refutes Driehaus
Release:
Congressman Driehaus uses criminal complaint in attempt to gag critics;
NRLC refutes his claims with sworn affidavit and documents
WASHINGTON -- The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) has produced a sworn affidavit, submitted today to the Ohio Elections Commission, demonstrating that the Obama health care law does in fact provide federal subsidies for elective abortion.
NRLC's statement was filed at the request of attorneys for the Susan B. Anthony List ("SBA List"), a pro-life political action committee. On billboards posted in the Cincinnati area, and in other public utterances, officials of the SBA List have asserted that Congressman Steve Driehaus (D-Ohio, First District) "voted for taxpayer-funded abortion" when he voted to enact the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), the Obama health care law.
In reaction to the SBA List's statements, Rep. Driehaus on October 5 filed a complaint with the Ohio Elections Commission, utilizing a peculiar Ohio statute under which it is a violation to make "a false statement concerning the voting record of a candidate or public official," or to "post, publish, circulate, distribute, or otherwise disseminate a false statement concerning a candidate, either knowing the same to be false or with reckless disregard of whether it is false or not . . ." [Ohio Revised Code 3517.21(B)(9) and (B)(10)] If the Commission votes that the disputed SBA List's statements were "false," the statute gives the Commission the power to either issue a public reprimand or to refer the matter to a county prosecutor with a recommendation for criminal prosecution. A criminal conviction under the statute is punishable by up to six months in jail and/or fine of $5,000.
A three-member panel of the Commission will hold an initial hearing on the Driehaus complaint on Thursday, October 14, at 8:30 AM in Columbus, Ohio.
In his complaint, Driehaus asserted, "Congressman Driehaus and like-minded pro-life Democratic members of the House of Representatives were successful in securing language in both the PPACA and Executive Order 13535, ensuring that the PPACA would not permit or be construed as permitting taxpayer-funded abortions. . . . Despite the fact that the PPACA does not permit and in fact prohibits taxpayer-funded abortions, the SBA List and other groups opposed to Congressman Driehaus's reelection have published and disseminated the false statement about Congressman Driehaus . . ."
At the request of the SBA List, NRLC submitted a 23-page affidavit, prepared and sworn to by veteran Federal Legislative Director Douglas Johnson, consisting of 65 numbered paragraphs, refuting Driehaus's claims. Paragraph 15 explains that the law that Driehaus voted for "contained multiple provisions that do in fact authorize (i.e., create legal authority for) taxpayer funding of abortion, and that predictably will result in such funding in the future -- unless the law itself is repealed, or unless the law is revised by a future Congress to include statutory language long the lines of the Stupak-Pitts Amendment." Paragraph 32 explains, "Some of these provisions are entirely untouched by any limitation on abortion in existing law or in the PCACA itself, and others are subject only to limitations that are temporary or contingent."
The affidavit provides detailed discussion of four specific programs under which abortion coverage is authorized by the PPACA -- the Pre-existing Condition Insurance Program (PCIP), the program of federal tax-based subsidies to purchase private health plans, the appropriation of $7 billion in new funding for Community Health Centers, and the section creating "multi-state" health plans to be administered by the federal Office of Personnel Management. The affidavit notes that these examples are not exhaustive.
In paragraphs 56-62, Johnson dismisses Driehaus's reliance on Executive Order 13535 as "highly misleading," noting, "There are no directives in the Order that apply to all, or even to most, of the provisions of the PPACA. The operative provisions that are actually contained in the Order are extremely narrow and highly qualified. . . Executive Order 13535 has the hallmarks of a primarily political document." Johnson also notes that the president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America characterized the Executive Order as "a symbolic gesture."
NRLC attached 16 documents to the affidavit as exhibits, including a legal analysis of the abortion-related components of the law issued by the Office of General Counsel of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops; documentation on state PCIP plans for Pennsylvania and New Mexico that were initially approved by DHHS although they covered elective abortions; a Congressional Research Service report that confirmed that nothing in the PPACA or the Executive Order prevented the use of PPACA-authorized PCIP funds from being used for abortions; and the texts of the Stupak-Pitts and Nelson-Hatch Amendments which were proposed to prevent any part of the legislation from subsidizing abortion -- but which were opposed by President Obama and congressional Democratic leaders, and which were not part of the law as enacted.
Both the NRLC affidavit and the collection of 16 documents can be viewed at or downloaded from the NRLC website at www.nrlc.org/AHC/DvSBA.
Beyond the contents of the affidavit, NRLC's Johnson offered these additional comments on the subject: "It is outrageous the Ohio law allows an incumbent politician, like Steve Driehaus, to haul citizens before an appointed government tribunal, under threat of potential criminal prosecution, for expressing an opinion about the public policy implications of a vote that he cast in Congress. This is an incumbent-protection law that is intended to intimidate critics, reminiscent of the methods used to chill criticism in certain countries run by presidents-for-life. In America, anyone should be free to express their views on the effects of the bills that Mr. Driehaus voted for, without fear of criminal prosecution or fines. Mr. Driehaus enjoys full freedom to dispute his critics, with the voters as the ultimate judges about whose claims are most credible. Mr. Driehaus apparently does not trust the voters to see things his way, and so he attempts to utilize criminal-law strong-arm tactics in a pathetic effort to intimidate and gag his critics."
As far as we know, Driehaus is the only incumbent, so far this year, to employ a criminal statute against his pro-life critics, but a number of other House Democrats are trying hard to suppress pro-life groups' criticism of their votes in favor of the health care law. For example, recently attorneys for Rep. Kathleen Dahlkemper (D-Pa., Third District) sent a letter to local radio stations suggesting that a radio ad charging that she voted for "taxpayer-funded abortions" was "slanderous."

More Ohio Democrat Lies in Ads Getting the OEC Treatment
Release:
COLUMBUS—Last week, bus drivers, parents, community members and other residents of the 46th Ohio House District spoke out against a false political advertisement that is now the subject of an elections complaint before the Ohio Elections Commission. State Rep. Barbara Sears (R-Monclova Twp) today filed an elections complaint against the House Democratic Caucus Fund, candidate for District 46 Harry Barlos, candidate for District 50 Todd Bosley, and each of their campaign committees.
The complaint charges that the House Democratic Caucus Fund and the two Democratic candidates lied in two televisions ads, which accuse Rep. Sears and her colleague, State Rep. Todd Snitchler (R-Uniontown), of voting to allow schools to hire as bus drivers criminals convicted of molesting and abusing children. However, prior to House Bill 19, the measure in question, criminals convicted of molesting and abusing children were already prevented from being school bus drivers. Therefore, the television advertisements, blatantly lie about the effects of HB 19 on restrictions on hiring school bus drivers.
“This legislation actually weakened the restrictions on convicted criminals who could become school bus drivers,” said Sears. “I find it extremely disappointing and, quite frankly, insulting that the my opponent and his allies would spread blatant lies about this legislation in order to win an election—even if it means spreading fear throughout our communities. As a mother, there is nothing more important than ensuring that our neighborhoods are safe for our children, and I know that my colleague Rep. Snitchler, who is a father, feels the same way.”
A Toledo-area Channel 13 ABC “Truth Test” segment investigated the dubious claims made against Rep. Sears and concluded that they had no basis and were in fact false.

ENERGY UPDATE: Good Bye Moratorium, Hello Permitorium
WH lifts deepwater moratorium in time for election; thousands will remain out of work due to lack of permits issued
Washington, DC – With the mid-term elections just over two weeks away, the Obama Administration today decided to lift the nearly 6-month ban on responsible offshore energy exploration, according an announcement Secretary Salazar made at a press conference this afternoon. Thomas J. Pyle, president of the Institute for Energy Research, issued the following statement, challenging the Interior Department to be straight with the America people on the de facto ban that remains in place:
“Today’s announcement is about politics and headlines, not getting folks back to work and increasing domestic energy exploration and production in the United States. The moratorium may very well be a thing of the past, but a permitorium remains the guiding policy of this Administration.
“What was announced today will result in no change in domestic energy production in the Gulf of Mexico until Interior Secretary Salazar begins to issue permits once again. In the meantime, thousands of gulf coast families will continue to be out of work. It can’t be explained any other way.”
OEA Attacks Husband of Member
Over in the 93rd Ohio House District, the Ohio Education Association has released attack ads against the husband of one of their members. Jade Thompson has taken a stand against this new low in a Letter to the Editor in the Marietta Times. Her husband is Andy Thompson and he is a principled leader that doesn't deserve the abuse heaped upon him by uber-liberal organizations who have done far more damage to the state of Ohio than Andy's positions on the issues facing our great state.
Jade says it better than anyone:
Jade says it better than anyone:
There was a recent letter to the editor about AEP withdrawing its support from the Ohio Chamber of Commerce because the chamber made a political endorsement. The writer found it "inappropriate and shameful" for that organization to ignore its members. I wonder if she would say the same for the OEA, an organization that endorses the most liberal candidates in the field and which month after month promotes progressive causes and programs in its member newsletter. Are Ohio's teachers that unanimously liberal or does our union simply not represent our views at all? If teachers are representative of the larger voting public then you would expect that our political views would be just as diverse.
Teachers should be free to spend their hard-earned dollars to contribute to the candidates and causes they actually support. The OEA and its parent organization, the NEA, refuse to acquiesce because they have an obvious agenda. After all, as the general counsel for the NEA once said in federal court, "if you take away payroll deduction, you won't collect a penny from these people, and it has nothing to do with voluntary or involuntary. I think it has to do with the nature of the beast, and the beasts who are our teachers ... (They) simply don't come up with the money regardless of the purpose." Teachers, this is what your union thinks of you.

Roger Reynolds: Integrity in Public Service
One of the questions I get a lot deals with the qualities voters should be looking for in a candidate. The guy I use as a measuring stick is Roger Reynolds. As our Auditor in Butler County, Reynolds has delivered on the promises he made when he campaigned for the position. Roger is committed to the 3 R's: Reducing Spending, Reforming Government, and Returning Tax Savings.
Reduced Spending
Roger told us that he would reduce the spending and he has. Roger has cut the budget by over $2 million and slashed spending by 35%. And he isn't done yet! He is committed to fiscal responsibility and is dedicated to making sure that every dollar spent is used wisely.
Reformed Government
One of the areas that Roger is leading in is transparency. Coming in to an office to clean up the mess of a scandal-plagued predecessor, one of the things that Reynolds did to demonstrate the integrity of the office was develop an online database of expenditures. For the first time, county records were placed on the internet for citizens to be able to review.
By strengthening internal controls, Reynolds has restored integrity to the way the county does business. Twice the office has won the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Reporting which illustrates the level of professionalism and dedication that Roger's team has to the perfromance of their duties. That is real leadership!
Returned Tax Savings
After reviewing the numbers, Roger was able to return over a million dollars to communities in Butler County. He discovered and eliminated an illegal tax assessment and levy. Reynolds also donated an underutilized official vehicle to the Dog Warden.
Roger Reynolds
Roger has participated in Town Halls so that he may hear concerns -- directly from constituents. He has made doing business with Butler County more efficient by encouraging usage of electronic payments. Customer service has improved considerably too.
There is a quote on Roger's campaign site that perfectly sums up who Roger is and what he is trying to accomplish: "I’m working diligently to save tax dollars, maximize services and build public trust.” He has kept his word and he deserves re-election. He has earned my respect AND my vote.

Bottom line: This is fantastic news for Steve Chabot, a man who has worked hard and worked smart for his return to Congress.
UPDATE: I just had an idea: Steve Chabot should buy that ad time. Click here and donate to help Chabot get his message out to even more people!

Team Wilson Fights Back Against the Lies from Team Pillich
Release:
Wilson Reading Veteran Read
Columbus, OH – October 11th, 2010: Former Sgt. Chris Hammond, USMC, filed two complaints with the Ohio Elections Commission alleging false statements on the part of the Ohio House Democratic Caucus, the House Democratic Caucus Fund and the Ohio Democratic Party. The complaints relate to a television ad that falsely attacks Mike Wilson’s positions on veterans’ benefits, as well as mail pieces that falsely assert that Mike Wilson has a plan that will force the layoff of thousands of police, firefighters and teachers.
According to Sgt. Hammond, “I filed these complaints because I know Mike Wilson to be a strong supporter of our military and our veterans and I believe these ads to be false. It is very disappointing that Representative Pillich’s Democrat allies would deliberately distort the truth in such a blatant way.” Sgt. Hammond continued, “As a fellow veteran, I know that Representative Pillich understands the value the military places on truth and honor. Connie Pillich dishonors her own service when she exploits other veterans to distort the truth on her behalf.”
Veterans across the region are outraged by the television ad which has appeared frequently on local stations. The ad contains a series of veterans attacking Wilson and questioning, “Why won’t Mike Wilson honor veterans?” The ads cite Wilson’s support for H.B. 400, a plan to reform Ohio’s tax code by phasing out Ohio’s income tax over 10 years.
“H.B. 400 does not implement any spending cuts and only schedules income tax rates to decline over a 10-year period,” pointed out Mike Wilson, Republican candidate for State Representative. “This plan is quite similar to one implemented successfully in Indiana by Governor Mitch Daniels. It has made Indiana more competitive for business and jobs. I have no plans to cut veterans’ benefit and this change, if implemented, will help provide the best benefits we can provide to our veterans – a robust economy and a steady job.”
In contrast, Representative Pillich voted for $2.1 billion in increased taxes and fees contained in H.B. 1 and H.B. 318. “I’m sure the Democrats would love to talk about anything but the increased taxes they voted for and the 400,000 jobs that have left Ohio since 2006,” said Wilson.
Wilson’s campaign is chaired by Major Brad Wenstrup, an Iraqi War veteran and former candidate for Cincinnati Mayor. Wilson’s campaign manager, Maggi Cook, is the daughter of a World War II veteran, and lost a brother in Vietnam in 1968. Her son, Sgt. Robert Cook currently serves with the 101st in Afghanistan. His younger half-brother, Sgt. Joe Cook, lost his leg in an IED attack in 2007. “I am honored to have the support of so many veterans. I am proud that they are standing up on my behalf to fight the smears. This is the kind of politics we are working to change,” declared Wilson. Also, here is a letter read in to the record of the last Reading Council meeting:
About Sgt. Chris Hammond: Hammond joined the Marine Corps at age 17 and received basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina in 1994. During this grueling test, Chris learned what true honor, integrity, courage, and commitment were and how to serve others more than oneself. Chris graduated basic training with honors as his Series Highest Marksman and subsequently received 4 awards of Rifle Expert.
Chris was also honored to make the rank of Sergeant (E5) in just over 4 years. Throughout his 2 tours overseas in Okinawa, mainland Japan, and South Korea, Chris earned 2 Sea Service Deployment Ribbons with a bronze Star designation, 2 Medals of Good Conduct, 1 National Defense Service Medal, 2 Meritorious Masts and 2 Letters of Commendation and completed 8 years of honorable service.
Chris is the proud father of 2 daughters. His wife Brenda (Larson) Hammond, is a daughter of the American Revolution through the Chenoweth family bloodline in southern Ohio during the Indian raids and massacre along the Ohio River Valley in 1789. Chris and his family reside in Blue Ash, OH.
