NEXT MEETING IS NOV 13th
The first meeting of the ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive Creative League was held last Saturday night, and it was a big success. We had a full house of every kind of artist, from college student to seasoned pro, and everyone was excited to be a part of the beginning of this fun project.
The Creative League acts as a central hub for networking between artists interested in independent animation. Rather than focus on the business aspects of indie animation, we are focused on creativity. The Creative League acts as a catalyst for growth among artists- supporting, educating and inspiring. Our monthly meetings are not limited to just animation- they include programs of classic films, dance, music, drama and art, as well as occasional guest speakers. Membership in ASIFA-Hollywood is not a requirement for participation, but it is highly recommended.

For our second meeting, we are fortunate to have a guest speaker- artist and prankster Al Ridenour. Al was the driving force behind the legendary Los Angeles Cacophony Society. He organized dozens of local artists and creative people to pull off large scale public stunts and hoaxes that poked fun at just about every aspect of life in Los Angeles. Recently, he has been busy along with his troupe of performers creating impromptu street theater titled, “The Art of Bleeding”. His related video series, “Gory Stories” involves reenactments of real life accidents using puppets, a robot and a gorilla named “Abram the Safety Ape”. Lots of fun!
Al is the model for the 21st century independent artist. He writes, produces and performs his own programs with the help of a community of like-minded artists. He harnesses multiple artistic mediums to express his totally unique cartoony sense of humor.
Al Ridenour will be screening several of his films for us, and talking about his projects. He’ll share strategies for successfully pulling together disparate artists into a productive team, and will answer questions from the League members. It’s sure to be an interesting and fun evening.
