Date Night

BERJAYAThe cover of my next novel, Expiration Date, just popped up on Amazon.com, so I'm guessing it's safe to pass along here. (Click on the image for a larger view.) I haven't said much about Expiration, mostly because it's probably too soon to start yattering on about a book that won't see the light of day until next April. But there is some cool news to share in the coming weeks, including the name of the artist who has contributed a dozen stunning black and white illustrations to the book, as well as Expiration's slightly unusual origin story.

But like I said, that stuff will be revealed in the weeks to come. In the meantime, I'd love your thoughts on the cover. What do you guys think? Would you give it a second look at the local chain or your favorite indie book shop?

Update: Jay Tomio's thoughts over at BSCreview.

It is definitely eye-catching, I really like it. Of course, I'd buy it b/c your name is on it. Very cool artwork though! I know you don't have much control, as the author, of what appears on the cover. Looks like you lucked out.

I love it. It gives me a rough idea of what to expect from it, but it also suggests as a reader it will likely be a fun read too. And I like to have fun with my busted knuckles and gunfire!

Good cover, I like it, but there should be a hot gal on there somewhere. You seldom can go wrong with a hot gal on the cover.

In any case, I am very much looking forward to reading this.

Duane,
Awesome cover. I would pick it up if I saw it in a bookstore. The cover comes across as being very noirish.
Looking at it, my initial thought would be that the story involved a man on the run from major trouble. And what better city to be on the run than in Philly.
Can't wait to read it.

you definately got the old pulp novels feel going on, there's not really indie bookstores over in Erie, PA except books galore but they mostly got used books and select new ones, and all my comics! there is a borders and b&n, if i can scrape some money together i'll see if books galore can order it for me y'know.
makes me think of sandwiches for some reason.

Duane, I'm guessing from the layered art and the subtle use of "history" that it has something to do with time travel. A book of yours in a Jack Finney vein...April can't get here fast enough for me!

Thanks for the feedback guys -- so glad you're all digging it. I'll be honest; I was on the fence at first, wondering if it was too cartoonish-looking. But the noir element is coming through, as well as the time travel element, which greatly pleases me.

Buck: After THE BLONDE and Molly on the cover of SEVERANCE, I thought I'd give a guy a shot. But I hear you.

Ron C.: That's a very good guess. More details soon...

I'm wondering if anyone thinks this cover sucks. I doubt it, it rocks pretty hard.
I like the moving squares, but I didn't think time travel, just fractured narrative, Godfather II style.
I also like the font used, nerdy to say, but it works well.
I think you have a winner right here, and I'll certainly be buying it.
Thanks for writing another book for me to read!
