Other Swierczynskis in the News: Robocalypse Edition

Like many writers I know, I have an automatic Google keyword search thingy to let me know when anyone's talking smack about me on the interwebs. A few days ago the name "Swerczynski" popped up as a character in a video game called Robocalypse: Beaver Defense. I thought, okay, this is a joke. But it isn't; shit's real. And one of the characters is named "David Swierczynski." Here's a summary from IGN.com:

DAVID SWIERCZYNSKI
The smoothest Environmental agent this side of the Love Canal, David Swazzu- ,Swizerr-- , er.. Swierczynski… is a man on a mission – to stop industrial polluters in their tracks! His finger-pointing is aimed directly at Thermidoom, and he could do his job if that pesky Beaver wasn′t always getting in the way...

That pesky Beaver, indeed.

Other Swierczynskis in the News

BERJAYAAccording to SpaceRef.com, a distant family member was involved in the ground-breaking detection of a astrophysical radio jet from an outbursting dwarf nova. And God, do I wish I was smart enough to understand the significance of that. But here's the skinny:

Stanislaw Swierczynski, a variable star observer in Poland, was the first to detect a possible outburst of SS Cygni on April 24, 2007. Within a few hours observers in Canada, the United States, Norway, and Finland provided the confirmation that an outburst was indeed underway.

Note: This very well may be a different Swierczynski from the one who was all up in the stars, binaries and cataclysmic variables. Yes!

Other Swierczynskis in the News

BERJAYAApparently, Polish land is more expensive than German land. “There is an intense thirst for land in Poland. "We currently have a 315-hectare farm in the vicinity of Bojanów for sale. I wanted to divide it into allotments of 30 hectares each, but the farmers want them to be of 5 hectares each,” says Dariusz Świerczyński, deputy manager of the Wielkopolska branch of the Agricultural Property Agency.

Other Swierczynskis in the News

BERJAYAE. Swierczynski and colleagues, working at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Poland, report on stars, binaries, cataclysmic variables, and whole bunch of words and numbers I can't possibly comprehend. Sounds cool though, doesn't it?
