Welcome to Voices & Visions. I hope we can captivate you with our offerings in the upcoming months. We plan to host many wonderful events at Voices & Visions. Our mission is to emphasize the arts in Philadelphia. Visual, written and performed. Since opening in July, we've taken this time to acclimate to running a new bookstore. As we get the hang of daily/weekly/monthly activities~ we will grow, expand and get the proverbial I Ching flowing. Let us know if there are events you'd like to see or participate in. We're open to suggestions and will do what we can to make this the premier cultural nexus in Old City!
Sincerely, Angie

Quote of the Day |
 |
"To read well--that is, to read true books in a true spirit--is a noble exercise, and one that will task the reader more than any exercise which the customs of the
day esteem. It requires a training such as the athletes underwent, the steady intention almost of the whole life to this object."
- Henry David Thoreau Walden From The Quotable Book Lover (Lyons Press)

French, Cajun, Creole, Houma: A Primer on Francophone Louisiana
by
Brasseaux, Carl A.
In this guide to the amazing social, cultural, and linguistic variation within Louisiana's French-speaking region, Carl A. Brasseaux presents an overview of the origins and evolution of all the Francophone communities. Brasseaux examines the impact of French immigration on Louisiana over the past three centuries. He shows how this once-undesirable outpost of the French empire became colonized by individuals ranging from criminals to entrepreneurs who went on to form a multifaceted society--one that, unlike other American melting pots, rests upon a French cultural foundation. |
